Inquisitor : Any city is possible on SC4. Its just how hard it is and how accurate you can do it. Just be glad St. Loius isn't in Europe. with some of there older areas and hilly terrain in parts I couldn't imagine trying some of those cities.

Eurytus : I would need to know what walls you are talking about. I have used several in my city. Most all of them can be found on the STEX.

    Eurytus : ...

        - Edmontons industry is mainly manufacturing. We have some leading High Tech industries aswell as many refineries on the east end.

        - Edmonton has dirty industry spread out. But again beyond the refineries to the east it isnt bad.

        - The garbage in my cities goes to a special lot found on stex in each city lot. in real life I haven't started on the areas with the dumps. Some of our largest parks in the river valley used to be dumps at one time. Most people who live here dont believe it. Currently we have a large one on the east end of the city....should be fun trying to fill it up on the game....

        - Each city tile in the game has its own utility and civic buildings. i use Rapheals 1x1 buildings to do this. then I hide them in a corner and try not to show pictures of them on here. I would like the same abilities with 1x1 green park...but no one has made them yet.

        - Heres the good one....why dont my houses merge....I go to every second house for hundreds of thousands of Res and mark them historical so they dont merge. I would say 90% of Edmonton is R$$.

        - Alot of the rich people live along the river valley and newer areas of Edmonton. Its mixed among different areas of Edmonton.

        - My buildings rarely go abandoned in any one of my regions. its all about balancing demands. R$$ is the hardest to fill. But aslong as I have alot of jobs...they will always grow.

(These are all questions from page 55 if anyone is wondering why I am randomly saying things lol)

Richiedamian : The rail maintanence yard is from SimcityScape. its an Oppie lot. I'm looking forward to your CJ.

Vigozerox : No I didn't use that for the airport. I have a mod that a friend gave me for it.

Justin82 : Sorry for no updates lately. you know this CJ. I can have a ton of updates then go dormant for a month. I've been pretty busy lately. And I havent been on ST much. And I havent touched SC for a while. But as always this CJ always goes on....just on a break.

Thanks again to everyone for there replies....

I've got a street map of St. Louis (locally printed Wunnenberg maps). I might (whenever get enough time), try to recreate St. Louis with it. It would definitely take at least as long as you have on Edmonton, and Edmonton is a Chicago in comparision to St. Louis (and County).

    City of Edmonton Ranked no.1

ThatMonkeySim recently made a complex scale to measure City Journals on Simtropolis. I was very happy to find The City of Edmonton came in first by a huge margin. With Simtropolis having 1000's of CityJournals this was great to see. Beyond years of work if it wasn't for people views, replies, and votes for Trixies I don't think I could be where I am. Thank You to everyone who visits this City Journal.

I also wanted to show one really important thing I do with SimCity every month or so. Years ago before I even started Edmonton I lost a region due to a corrupt file or two. So to keep Edmonton safe I back it up every now and then.

    Edmonton January 17th

I've done some recent work in North East Edmonton around 66th Street ad Yellowhead trail. Also some updated work on the Anthony Henday Drive in SW Edmonton. I have to question how far on detail I should go. There are areas I could do better by raising some roads and highways a fraction of a tile for realism. I have done this in areas that are new. but to re-do other areas is very time consuming and pain staking. I always strive for this to be earths most realistic recreation but to finish it I have to draw some lines. So far trying to place even the trees acurately for 1.8million square tiles is enough lol. Here is a small update on SW Edmonton...

These are two new buildings going up in the core of Edmonton soon. Edmonton has alot of highrises being built and slated being built in the next few years. I have announced other proved plans in the past. And I think I will be adding alot more in the future. I've shown very little out of what is being built currently. Each tower will be 30stories tall and on 104th st just west of Manulife Place.

It actually wont be that bad at all. No worse then a standard cloverleaf interchange will be. Maybe even easier. The design is meant to be free flow from most directions, with out the need to slow down when transitioning from one direction to another. Proper signage at any interchange is the key to finding your proper direction, and I'm sure you wont have any problems at all. AT ALL.

This is a standard run of the mill freeway to freeway interchange, we here in Edmonton are just not used to such a thing, as we dont have any other.

As a note, I see Calgary is also building a similar one ( maybe 2 ) on there ring road complex at deerfoot S where the ring road will intersect.

Just looks like a bloody maze, that's all. Being a new driver and all, I've got enough on my mind trying to keep track of everything never mind figuring out which lane to be in to get onto Ellerslie. I guess I'll manage though.31.gif

I've been watching this journal for some time and I have to say it's absolutely amazing. It's really hard to even express just how beautiful a city you can make with this game when you put so much effort into it. Absolutely breathtaking...

...and just one request if you get a chance...I would love to see a closeup of that highway interchange with Calgary Trail and Anthony Henday...wow

Every time I look at this CJ, I get a surge of thought telling me to go back and build more of Melbourne. Just the fact that you can just keep at it for these last couple of years is amazing. I would love to see this completed. Then all you have to do is change the cities only when a new building of freeway gets built!

(Needless to say, best recreation journal ever, and rank 1 in tms' rating system is simply: accurate)

I wouldn't have thought you could see the Northern Lights in Edmonton, after all, it's not THAT far north.  I learn a lot of things about a city I never visisited, and that's great.

Congrats on your 3 Trixies now!  Cool looking towers too!  Did anyone else hear about the twin 30 stories supposed to be going up in Fort McMurray?

Your road layout is simply AMAZING! I've never seen anything like it! Its so beautifully real, something I've never seen in simcity before.

I would love to see some larger updates. 48.gif

The walls I was asking about was the walls along the freeways, roads, and the riverbanks.

Beebs : The interchange at Anthony Henday and Calgary trail won't be bad. You'll approach it and have signs that clearly tell you what lane to be in. Switch lanes and move on... I could see it being confusing with no signs...

Unholycowgod : I probably won't have any pictures of the interchange for some time. I did alot of work on it and got the roads in the right places, but there are some things I want to change. I'm far from being happy with how it looks....sorry...

Lakeyboy : You should do some more work on Melbourne. Its a great city and very popular around the world. Its up to you to show it to the people.

Dannato : lol, you don't say Edmonton is that far north. It is a little further south then a few European cities in Latitude. But for North America it is the most northern major city. Its also the economic gateway to the entire north including Alaska. We have colder winters then most any major city in Europe. And we get the Northern Lights on average 60 nights a year. 80% of Canada's population is with 150m of the US border. So being an 8hr drive from the border gives another feeling of the far north.

Spacenuteskimo : I didn't hear about that in Fort Mac. I can see it though. A city of 70,000 that can sell a trailor to live in for $300,000 due to demand. So many people live in Edmonton then fly in or do the deadly commute up there every month. With 100billion going into the region in the next few years and a job demand of another 100,000 people a few highrises would make sence. If they build them I hope they look good. thats an ugly little town. What to do when you have Earths largest Oil deposit.
CBS's 60 minutes did a special on the Alberta oil sands just the other night. The video and article is worth a view.

Eurytus : I would need a picture of the walls....I'm still nt sure which ones you mean.

    Jersey,

I have been on Simtropolis for a while now and I must say that you have the best CJ on here out of all of the ones that I have read.  Very realistic looking, great views of the city, and overall a very, very excellent job.  A new subscriber you have earned in me!

looking at your transportation maps alone never ceases to amaze me, TJD - the amount of work you have put into this...well, you know i think you are doing spectacular work. simply stunning.
and...60 days worth of northern lights a year? nice...perhaps i need to move up north a lot further.
    truly stunning work.
