Spacenuteskimo : for the skyscrapers I just look for what looks the most realistic. And go with what I can find on stex. So far I am happy with some of them...and a ton of work has gone into downtown. however before I start to show alot of the main commercial area I want to tweak it just a little more... I was wondering too, what part of northern Alberta do you live in?

diablo_del_bano : If you ever have questions about Edmonton just ask. this is more then a city journal. Its a source to get to know a little bit about Edmonton aswell. If you ever come here....make sure its not the winter... today was an alright day out and its -18c right now lol... +20C to 35C summers are good though. But our -40C winters at times can suck...

shpangler : I was in Cold Lake this summer for the first time. its a nice area. I stopped in for lunch on my way home from Meadow Lake. Alot of the Rexall place (coliseum) is finished.... but I want to improve it before I show it. I have alot of areas that are partly done and reconizable... I just want them to be a bit better....

beesharps : I have made edmonton accuratly on ever SimCity and a few times on the first playing way back when on SNES... Starting Edmonton and doing it to my scale and acuracy takes years. If you want to start by all means I would be glad to give you a copy of my region... but to expand it north and west is not easy...you will have to place every city back in its exact place 1 by one if you shift anything in that direction. plus you are adding a ton of time onto your work load...one day I may try that. for now my recent expansion is enough...

inquisitor : Thanks for your first reply here. i hope theres many more to come...

I live in the 3rd largest suburb of Edmonton (ooohhh a quiz...).  I am really amazed at the quality of work in this CJ.  The only problem is, you missed where I live by about five kilometers!  So, for a simple idea, how much more do you have to build before you're finished?  Good luck!  Oh, and what building are you using for Manulife Place?

Me too!  This is awesome!  I went to Edmonton last night just north of downtown, and this morning I was in the university area, and I caught a glimpse of the new LRT station at the Health Sciences building.  Looks pretty good!  Can't wait fore more pictures!

    City of Edmonton
    North Side Farms

This is a small preview of an unfinished area on the north end of the map. Most of these pictures are taken between 82nd and 66th streets. These area have been recreated by using google earth and many measurements.

    Thank you!!
I would like to thank everyone who took there time to vote for Edmonton.
For everyones views, replies, and nominations it makes the hours spent on Edmonton worth it. And pushes me for the extra detail or measurement to recreate my home town. I should be putting out updates at a faster pace after Christmas. I just got a new pc, work has been busy, and with it being the holidays I haven't had that much time lately. With Edmonton being 2.5 yrs old I am about half way finished and on schedual to finish in 2008. When I started I never thaught it would take the same time to recreate Edmonton as it did to build it... (j/k).

spacenuteskimo : I'll say you live in Spruce Grove. I had a friend just buy a house out there. NE area of SG... For Manulife place I am using some building off the stex, I can't remember whic one, but I'm not satisfied with it...so it will charge.

Boobster : the population of real Edmonton metro is 1,014,000 and mine is at around 517,000 at the moment.

1ajs : Hopefully you'll get out this way one day. Make sure its in the summer 21.gif

    Edmonton Dec 14th...

I don't show many updates due to not being satisfied with half finished areas. And I like to show large scale or important areas. I think in an attemp to get more updates out there for everyone to see I will show even small or mundane areas that I am satisfied or finished with. This should give people a feeling for exactly what I'm doing and what many of those areas I have built look like no matter how simple or boring they may be.... yet, as I've said before I'm trying to get the 1.8million lots on my map to resemble the real thing... not matter where. I know there are other recreations that focus on a few areas of there city. I focus on it all... 11.gif

In this area of the city on my recreation I'm on around year 600 in the game with the area being about 60% done. this area includes The Yellowhead freeway, calder railyard, and City center airport which has been previewed before. I had to spend a few hours fixing the rail yard which I had put many hours into a yr or two ago. Turns out the map I was using is way off the real thing. So I'm now using google earth and trying to eye it to scale. Its hard to do, due to the tracks being well over 20 tracks in width and at hard angles... so I'll try to make it resemble the real thing with in what limits I have...

The reason why you have won three trixies over two years is in that picture you posted. THE VERY LARGE ATTENTION TO DETAIL (and having alot of time on their hands as well as a pretty good computer with a big hard drive!). That picture shows this perfectly. Look at the trees at the pic from Google Earth and then look at his game pic. He has done that amount of detail right through the whole region. Well done on this region once again.

Google Maps is the best, but, unfortunately for Edmonton, it seems that the quality of the satellite photos deteriorates for the eastern part of the city (cutting half of Commonwealth Stadium in half). Or do you have access to better pictures?

I posted a while back about creating my own version of Edmonton, coincident with me discovering this CJ. I still intend to, and have already started, but I think I may go smaller and build my hometown of Camrose. I transferred the scale you use to my own map of Edmonton (I have maps from the AMA. It looks like yours are made by the good folks at MapArt), and also to a couple of maps of Camrose I have. Heck, if we get enough people in on this, we could all build an area around Edmonton and create a Northern Alberta region! But that would, of course, be silly.

Eurytus : I build and level the farms over and over. I also use plopable farm props. and tree props. I use google earth to do areas accurately for the farms. I try to get the trees ditches and farm houses to look like they do in real life. I know the odds of someone reconizing how accurate it is may be slim but atleast I do. Also the comparitive pics I will have soon will show this.

Beesharps : If you need any help I can give it. Just ask. I would like to see more Alberta communities pop up. No matter what the size. I hope you follow threw and make a city journal
