Great recreation. That scale must have taken you ages to make! I would never have the time to do things like that! BTW, i think this is the 12th page now?

EDIT: It's not ...

Nice how you are claiming the top of every page.

Now.. how will you solve the problem of bridges going on a weird angle seeing how the rest of the map is almost to perfectly acurate.

Motina : For the bridges most in Edmonton are at slight angles but none are at huge 45 degree angles. Most are 5 to 30 Degrees. So on either side of the river I may off set the road then average where the middle of the bridge is. For most Bridges I've been surprised at how close it is. On the Legislative area which has 2 bridges and tunnels involved it looks accurate. But when you look at a map and the intersection just to the North of the High Level Bridge you can see the result of lining up the bridge.

And I get the top of the pages by keeping an eye on my CJ. When I have time off or my family is in bed I get a chance for my updates and time to work on the region.11.gif

I don't know if you've answered this question already, but, just out of curiosity as someone who has never been to Edmonton, what are you going to do at the lake in the Northwest corner of the map?

Quito : Big Lake near St Albert has next to nothing developed around it. Believe it or not most people in Edmonton don't know about it and even more have never been to it. All it is, is a shallow pool of water. Some what a swampy area full of ducks. Its also at a higher elevation aswell the Sturgeo river that runs threw St Albert which is in a very wide valley. St Albert is mainly mid to high wealth with basicly no low wealth housing. I have the Water flora mod/lots and I'll probably dress up the lake when I get there. St. Albert will be the last and hardet area to do. Much like Millwoods but  on the slope of the Sturgeon River valley. I dont know how well it well look in the city view. The Gold Bar area which I finished is accurate on the map and region view but when zoomed in doesnt look to well. Biggest mistake I made in this region is the depth of the valley. Thanks for the interesting question. I may find a picture or 2 of it later to show Big Lake isn't much to look at.11.gif

I'm throwing out my maps of edmonton, and printing off this region.

Jersey Devil, your excellent work will be succeeded by few. I challenge everyone on the ST to make a more realistic version of their own city, then this one. As a fellow edmontonian, I can vouch for the detail and accuracy of all this hard work Jersey Devil has done.

That would be a very very difficult challenge! JD has set a very high standard. Vancouver would be another, equally challenging city to do, I think.

The attention to detail is amazing. 44.gif If only I had the time my city would be detailed and to scale. Hmmm, oh well back to plotting streets where ever fits. 3.gif

Yeah Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal would be the most challenging because, they are large complex cities, they have a weird and complicated geography and plus the REALISM will take forever. If there is a challenge the city options should include these.

I have already taken up the challenge and figure that it will take me at least a couple hundred hours to finish the entire city of Toronto.

x-man : ??! - There will be updates as always. The amount of work I did in just the last month is more then nearly the nine months before that. But from time to time I take a few days or a week off. Har to lay roads day after day and keep the interest at 100%. I have the urge to get everything done, almost to the point of absession. But If I play to much it loses its fun.

No offence meant, your work is cool. I have only discovered this thread a number of weeks ago and I was not aware that have been doing this for so long.
I guess I kinda got spoiled with the daily updates!43.gif44.gif

    -Summer Storm-
           Sunday July 11th

Edmonton in that last week has been hit by a few major storms with the worst this last Sunday. Most damage in the SW side of the city (opposite of where I live). Included was West Edmonton Mall (The worlds largest Mall) which had to evacuate 75,000 people! There is a small article included on that. Here are just a few samplings of the hail.
Also major freeways flooded enough to submerge cars and nearly take a few peoples lives. Also large chunks of raod surface was wiped out in areas and large sink holes and land slides in other areas. With damage in the hundreds of millions Edmonton may be decalred a disaster area. The sarrounding areas where hit by a few tornados as well.

    -West Edmonton Mall-
    BAT or LE project.

Jim - from here on ST may try to build the largest mall in the World. I havent built up much of the West End of the city so in the following pics I have somewhat altered it to show how the appox. building would fit in on SC.
With the block West Ed is built on it isnt possible to make one building on a square lot. Plus to render a lot of this size? The area of the block is approx. 40x25squares.
I have also listed some attractions. The mall also has a golf range on the roof, 3 large food courts, over 800 stores, is 5.3million square feet, has the worlds largest parking lot, largest indoor wave pool and slides, bungee jump, largest indoor roller coaster, shooting range, 3 major movie complexes, 2floor Casino, Usable Submarines, Replica of the Sante Marie (Boat), Sharks, Dolphins, many other animals at other times, 3 large food courts, China town area, 10 story hotel, hockey rink, bowling alleys, pool hall, over 50 clubs and restaurants, and this is just a few things off the top of my head....(sorry to get carried away)...
The mall also has up to 100,000 shoppers at a time. Last Sunday 75,000 where avacuated after the storm shown above.

Also I have done some work in the East Side of the city that will be shown in an update soon.

I'm liking this TJD44.gif WEM is gonna be a tough one for a lot. Maybe you could split it into different lots and then just puzzle it together? Just a suggestion though.

alright, TJD! good job going thru that storm (i didnt hear of it, i prob skipped it in the newspaper). this is a hell of a project. i'd have to agree with sc4ky up there. With that irregular parcel, you're gonna have a lot of lots to put in there. keep up the good work!

LOL, why does that seem so incredibly funny to people who have visited the mall many, many times before? When I was a little kid in Edmonton, I thought that ALL malls were that big. To my dissapointment, none of them are....

I like the latest developments TJD!

The worst storm in 200 years, everyone was calling it, and guess what? Just when the worst storm ever (for Edmonton) hit I was already in Germany on vacation. I missed the whole thing! But I came back and I heard the whitemud flooded, and cars were actually floating in it! I also heard that the west Ed. roof collapsed too. That never happens in Simcity. Anyway, good job.44.gif

Hey, great work on the city so far. I've got a question though, when you were terraforming the land, how did you go about getting it right? I mean, how did you know how high and low to make everything? Any special brand maps out there that have the elevation info? And what kind of scale did you use for the elevation?
I was just wondering. I'd like to recreate the area I live in, maybe not in as much detail as you, but I do have alot of free time. Plus it'd be fun to learn the entire area.
