Hi I downloaded this file 2 or 3 weeks ago and my antivirus just came up with W32/Zlob.QD in the SetupSC4Terraformer09cPatched.exe. I don't know if I downloaded it this way or if it got infected later. But I thought I would let you know so you could check it thanks a lot.

Maybe it was made with v1.0c and you have v0.9c ? in this case try redownloading SC4TF from the modds&download section.

I have no time atm for testing it, but I'll investigate this tomorrow

    Take care!

    Hi guys,

First I want to say that SC4TF is a remarkable tool, amazingly powerful, and precisely adressed my issues with trying to create regions in game (so tedious...).

I've got it installed, works great, and all the tools I've fiddled with have performed as described. But... (there's always a but here) I'm having an issue with rendering this regions in game. Now I realize this is really probably an SC4 issue, but you guys are probably the best equipped to answer this.

So I get the region loaded in game and it is in SC4TF colors as expected. I 'start new city' and then save and exit to region so that SC4 can recognize the terrain data. This works just fine for most cities. However, it seems that for any cities with elevations above a certain point or with particularly steep slopes, when SC4 tries to load it the program crashes to windows. I'm pretty sure it's because of the elevation because I've tried the same region with different scale factors (grenoble). With default scale factor there are alot of high elveation cities. When I try to load them for the first time in game, it crashes. If I render grenoble with a low scale factor, those same cities that used to be high elevation load just fine as lower elevation cities.

I have no idea if you guys can help me with this, but it seems like you're the best bet.

Thanks for the tremendous work you've done.

    Ohhh... Thats a toughy citizenkhan.

I never came across that in my testing. My guess though would be that there are no textures for the hieght you are dealing with. Do you have any custom terrain textures installed at all, in cluding PEGs or Cycledoggs? If so try removing them and test it with SC4 base textures. This may or may not work, just a test to see what happens. Another thing that may be a problem is but Im not sure how it affects the game is the maximum hieght property in the save game exemplar if you are exceeding that I would have assumed that it defaults to the maximum hieght allowed by this property. If not it may crash it, I dont think this is the problem. There are a couple of mods out there that change that property, I think they were done by Mallowthecloud but Im not 100% sure and I dont have the slightest clue where they are.

For reference at about what hieght is the problem at? I can test this to confirm or deny on my computer with a test city. The highest point I have gotten is in the range of about 2500m in SC4 without any problems.

Hope this helps.... If something fixes it please tell us what for future reference.

For a first try, just remove all your plugins, just to see if you're in the right direction.( I think you are, but just to be sure )

Haha!, I figured it out. I just had the snow capped texture plugin installed incorrectly. That would screw things up wouldn't it? It works just fine now. Just for kicks I tried cycledogg's olympic terrain mod as well, and it works fine too. Great tool guys!

I just downloaded and attempted to run SC4T with the error "DirectX Cannot Be Loaded, check the readme.html."

So, I ensured that I had all the .dll's required, and I do. Check my DirectX version, its the latest version available from MS. I rebooted (to see if residual memory issues from CS: Source or SC4 or Google Earth were causing problems) and still no luck.

I know I'm virus and spyware free, my Windows XP SP2 install is less than 2 months old.

    Specs:

    AMD A64 3200+ OC'd to 2.6 Ghz

    2048 MB DDR

    eVGA 7600GT KO PCIE

Around 185GB free HD space on the drive I extracted the ZIP to.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi bigSlark

If you are sure you have d3d9x_30.dll in your system32 folder, then it leads to 2 possibilities:

1 ) you have another DirectX program running at the same time, and this program require full directX usage

2 ) your graphic card can't handle the minimum spec I need ( more precisly the fact that I ask for DirectX in windowed mode )

you can run the SC4TErraformer_debug.exe and send me the content of the output, I may find exactly what it is, but if it is case 2, then I can't do anything 15.gif

    Take care

Out of desperation, I deleted d3d9x_30.dll and dropped another version I got from the DLL files website and all is well!

Thanks for releasing this awesome tool, I've been playing with it for the past 20 minutes!

I'm always suspicious of Windows, and today is no different...

    from wouanagaine in different thread...

the directX problem can either be another app that use it or that you don't have the correct DirectX version

check in your c:\windows\system32 if you have d3d9x_30.dll, if not then you should visit the links provided in the SC4TF readme to get an up to date directX version ( and do not say you already have dx9.0c , I know that, it is just those marketing guys at MS think it will help the great community to name each 2 month version of DX the same name )

    Take carequote>

I already checked for d3d9x_30.dll I don't have it. I ran dxdiag and found that I have DX 9. I went to MS' site

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=013C0F78-3C9B-44DC-B8BE-46783BCAC3CB&displaylang=en

to download the latest and greatest version. directx_oct2006_redist.exe

I installed it into .../system32 and I still do not have the required dll. I even looked for it in the directX cabs that got installed. no luck.

    EDIT:

    SC4Terraformer.exe.log is empty after a trial run of SC4Terraformer.exe & SC4Terraformer_debug.exe

    ok that is weird

do you have any other D3D9x_??.dll ? mainly something bigger than 30 ?

I have to check the october version, but I see no reason why they should have removed this one, but who knows what are there plans

Another thing come of the top of my head rereading your post, specifically

    I installed it into .../system32quote>

in no way the dxsetup.exe prompt you to an installation directory

the directx_oct2006_redist.exe is a self extracting zip, so you should find a dxsetup.exe somewhere under your system32 folder, I urge you to remove all unzipped files, rerun the

directx_oct2006_redist.exe and enter a temporary folder, then run the dxsetup.exe

The microsoft website should have a state that in bold 15.gif

    I hope I'm clear 15.gif.

As a side node, if you're not a win32 guru, never attempt to do something in system32 folder this may result in unknown behaviors of Windows

    Take care

That's why I back up the System32 folder before playing. The 46 cabs that deployed to it were easy to find anyway.

    OK. Take 2.

    I downloaded directx_oct2006_redist.exe found here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=013C0F78-3C9B-44DC-B8BE-46783BCAC3CB&displaylang=en

and opened that into a folder on my desktop.

    I then ran dxsetup.exe.

I now have a bunch more d3dx9_*.dll files including d3dx9_30.dll.

I went to my SC4TF folder and ran SC4Terraformer.exe.

WhooHoo! It works. 9.gif I'm at work 15.gif so after looking at the region of my choice I had to shut it down quickly.

    I'll play later. THANKS!

    Welcome Owneluby!!

I have noticed your message in the NHP thread and my thread thanks for the support!

First thing you have to do is use the export button to create an SC4M file. This file is unable to upload to STEX right now so the way to get around that is!!! Put the SC4M file and your Config.bmp into a zip folder. Then you can upload this as a "prop" 3.gif

    Nice and simple.

Just a quick reminder, that if you have v1.0c ( and I recommand this version 4.gif ), you even don't have to put the config.bmp in the zip. The new SC4M format of v1.0c enclosed the config.bmp inside itself

    Good job owenluby

Okay, I must admit I'm new here, but anyway, this may sound like a stupid question, but after you unzip the folder, how do you start up the program?

Nevermind, I finaly figured out the problem. I needed to install direct x, but I found out that my graphics card can't handle the program. Damn, I'll have to do it the old fashion way. 15.gif
