CHAPTER 35-HELLO PINEHURST

 

     Well, I finally got to take a look at Pinehurst, bringing along Jonah and Carlea for the weekend. Pinehurst is the 2nd-smallest town in the region, with 5900 happy residents living in a mixture of the past and the present, the old and the new.

     Pinehurst has a large high-tech base like many of the other areas in the region, with Audi's sister company Volkswagen occupying some factories and testing facilities. The new Jetta's airbag system was designed and tested right here in Pinehurst.

I really like your litlle communities, they look very credible! And I was looking at your diagonal streets made by winding them. Did you tried the diagonal street mod, I'm doing some experimenting with it! Not very easy to use at first but it gives interesting results.

Keep it up man! And BTW the 1 000 mark is not far! Go for it!

Great update, RHF! I love the way you used the Euro style buildings! You wouldn't think they'd blend in so well, but they really do - nice job! Pinehurst in general is looking great, and that golf course does look awesome!

Darmok: Thanks, I tried to be as subtle as possible...hehe. I actually have the diagonal streets mod, and have experimented with it in other cities of mine, but I prefer not to use it because one of the negative effects is that no buildings will grow along one. So for LOAA, I just use the conventional streets to create a diagonal effect. I hope that was enough information...

 

lookinin: Thanks. I really love those W2W buildings. I don't get them too often (obviously Pinehurst is an exception to this rule) but when I do, I always put them into the spotlight. Glad you like that golf course as well! We really need more golf courses on the STEX, I usually have to get my fix by playing the RL game or SimGolf, lol.

Looks great, though the name of Pinehurst seems to be a bit of an oxymoron - I don't see any pines anywhere.

There's a diagonal streets mod available that uses the default street tool to draw diagonal with normal.

SA: Yeah...I was watching the U.S. Open (in golf) and chose the name because of the course it was being played on. (Pinehurst No. 2) And concernin that mod...I thought that the diagonal streets mod used the ANT network from the NAM, which can't be zoned upon? If there's a different mod which uses the regular street too and can be zoned upon, could you get me a link? Much appreciated.

They're really quite amazing, I use them for quite a bunch of things.

Well, after much effort into trying to get good pictures for the update, I've decided to scrap it. The snapshot system in SimGolf is not the same as SC4, and many of the pictures were low quality.

The next update will instead have us traveling to the new farming community south of Moon River, Sandy Falls. It should be fun!

Hey guys...I just wanted to speak out on why I've been absent from replying to comments or updating for the past couple days. RL has been straught with both SimCity-related and real world-related dilemnas.

First of all, I've been golfing nonstop in preparation for my golf course's premier junior tournament, and a chance to go to the All-Ontario tournament. Therefore, as an avid golfer (only Radiohead is higher in my regard) I've been out at the course all the time getting ready.

 

Second of all, my copy of SC4 was ruined when my dog scratched it during a spare unprotected moment. I have one update saved up, but due to the aforementioned upcoming tournament, I've had no time to get it ready.

 

Hopefully these woes shall be quelled soon enough, in the meantime, bear with me as the real world wrecks havoc with my SC4 and Simtropolis time.

Just an update on my troubled situation...

While mowing my neighbour's lawn, he asked me if I was any good with computers. I'm reasonably tech-savvy, so I said yes.

 

He had some really big computer problems that he needed help with, so I spent 2 hours at his place fixing stuff, drinking Diet Coke and talking to him. He was so grateful for my help that he presented me with a reward...

 

A NEW COPY OF SC4: DELUXE EDITION!!!

 

He told me how he has bought the game, but was too busy to play it, so I could have it. I was on Cloud 10, so I skipped home and got it installed. Since my plugins folder was backed up, along with all my regions and such, LOAA can continue.

 

I should be able to update tonight, but no promises. Hope to see some comments, even after this rather long delay...

CHAPTER 36-BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED

 

     Well, it seems that development in the Moon River area has come full circle. After the recent and continuing sprawl revolution to the west, the south side is growing in different but still worthy ways. Agricultural growth has made a return to the region, in the form of the tiny farming village of Sandy Falls.

     Due to its small population, Sandy Falls has few conveniences, but Land's End Pub is the place to be on Friday nights. With Guinness draughts going at only 50 cents each, you can find many an exhausted trucker taking refuge here in the college football and cheap booze.
