I would like a map with the following:
The water (ocean) would be deep in the Northernmost 4 Cities
<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//SimCity_Region_Map03.bmp align=baseline>
quote>

I can try this...shouldn't be too hard. Possibly a job for SCRACC as you can directly control how the landscape looks in LD, only indirectly.

Note that the land south of the line would slowly rise in elevation as
you go southward. (with the highest elevation in the city in the southeast corner of the map)

Would also like a bay worked in there somewhere (somewhere on or near the red line) just big enough to fit a port in, but not too big as to overpower the terrain.

I'm requesting parts of Broome and Tioga County, NY. The region stretching from Owego, NY to Binghamton, NY. Preferibly south to the PA border. How far north doesn't really matter.

To Ron01_000_000: if you want to check progress on your map, go to my Mapp Squad thread. I will post a pic when they can be sensible and resize themselves properly.

Hello!

Does anyone know of, or if not, could they please make, a map of the North Eastern region of England. It'd an excellent place for a decent regional setting, as in real life it's got three major cities (Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside), a cathedral university town in a spectacular setting (Durham), Rural areas, two international airports, and a major shipping service!

Go on, make it - please!

Ed

could somebody make up a config.bmp for https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=5240

that cuts out most of the large, empty water sections? this would speed up rendering time a lot...

Could someone do a 6x6 large cities custom map like this:

<ahttp://img109.echo.cx/img109/2577/image11hw.gif align=baseline>

Where blue is water, light green is flat-ish land (but with some shallow hills), medium green has rolling hills, steep enough to require cuttings for highways using the BRF slope mod, and dark green is steep rolling hills, but not too steep? Ideally the red line indicates a point on the river which can be spanned with a single-span level bridge (this is where my main city would develop).

TIA :-D

Amazing job, MTC! What would the Mapp Squad be without you? This is amazing work; and shows your true dedication to the squad. Again, excellent work, and I can't thank you enough for taking all of these requests by yourself.

Well, who can deny that you definitely deserve that badge? Your work for us goes beyond just doing requests...it's having the willpower and strength to do what no else wanted to or could have done. I sincerely thank you, and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Thanks for the comments, comdude and RHF! Without the Mapp Squad... not only would I be nowhere, but I wouldn't have this many people saying thanks to me! Without that... I think I would have quit doing these requests long ago. So... thanks again! 29.gif

The map of Indianapolis that I already made is huge. It would take hours to render a map of the whole county to scale. If you really want me to make one, I will, but I'm warning you that it will be huge and slow both to render and just regularly load.

MTC, I have one question. What program do you use to make you maps? How do you get international maps? And What program do you use to make custom maps? I was wondering this because microdem really isn't that good, and USGS isn't either and I was wondering if there is a better way to do maps.

    Very specialized request here:

Could I get a custom map of a Pennsylvania region which includes three seperate areas merged into one map?

    regionattempt9qx.jpg alt=Image Hosted by
the map would be built on as if --> is north.

As you can see I am looking for a region which is 3 large city tiles high and 4 large city tiles wide. Each of the colored squares represents a real life area I am looking for. These areas are pretty spread out (the reason for the custom map).

The Harrisburg Square would include the 4 km square around Harrisburg, just barely including the west shore (in order to create a bridge). Also, the colored square directly to the south of Harrisburg would be the real life area south of Harrisburg.

The Copper-ish colored square to the far north center would be the real life area of Duncannon, PA. This square would have the islands to the north of Duncannon (where 322 crosses the Sus. River) in the center of the city tile.

And the last real world area would be Newport, PA, the blue tile here. Newport would be in the center of the tile here.

I understand they would not all merge correctly as is, and I would not be worried about going in to the region and aligning all the city tile squares so they match each other's borders. Manually merging them would not be that hard, the hardest part for me is finding the data and putting it in SC.

If one would want to do the moutains, they would be based on the Appalachian mnts., however, I can do that with the in region tools.

Any question (I know it seems like a lot to ask. Cause it is!) don't hesitate to pm me, I would be willing to attempt to clear it all up.

    Thanks.

brtim2: I started working on your request early this morning and will have an example of what I think you want over on my thread in a very short while (around 9:30 EST). Please join me over there and see what you think so far.

Edit: let me make that 10:30 so I can do one more render...

Hi everyone - after a few weeks of lurking, I've decided to come in from the cold. 9.gif I'd like to put in three map requests here:

    1) Ames, IA.
After the city ends, it's pretty much just farmland (save for a couple of very intriguing residential developments on the wooded ridges north of town)... so 3 large cities wide by 4 large cities long should probably be more than sufficient.

In order to keep the Iowa State University area from getting busted up across multiple city tiles, I would suggest using Squaw Creek as an alignment for individual city boundaries. For those looking at topo maps, this is a relatively narrow depression that comes into town heading SSE. It then turns almost straight eastward after being intersected by another small creek... then cuts almost straight south... followed by one final eastward turn with a slight southern component.

The due-south alignment is the one of interest. If you put a city boundary line just east of this alignment, one large city tile will reach out to include almost all of the city's eastern industrial area (if the maps are done at 1:1 scale, where a large city is 4 km on a side). West of that point, another large city tile will reach as far as North Dakota Avenue (the western boundary of most student apartment-type developments - beyond this point, the remaining development takes on a rather formulaic suburban character that could be re-created in a couple of separate medium city tiles.)

For the northern boundary of the main city tiles - I suggest you find your bearings as follows. The Skunk River enters the Ames area, meandering southwestward toward a group of four small lakes with an apparent island in the center. (The topo maps may be different from what I see in my everyday life, since the area was rehabbed from a granite quarry into a park only last year... e.g. you might only see three lakes... but they're still a pretty recognizable feature.) Just north of this group of lakes, there should be a sudden rise in the terrain (after which it will stay relatively flat.) Pick a point about one half-mile north of the crest of this ridge, then draw a straight east-west line through it, and you'll have a pretty workable city boundary. (This city tile should extend almost as far south as the first eastward run of Squaw Creek, described above.)

Once you have these areas defined, you'll be pretty much set when it comes to city boundaries. I've put together a map to clarify these extraneous words, with the suggested boundaries in green... it'll be attached somewhere in this post, I hope. (Sorry, I'm a total $%&^!. 9.gif)

    2) Des Moines, IA. I'm not as familiar with the topography of Des Moines as I am with that of Ames - the main point is probably to get the Y-shaped river split near downtown all into one large tile, so one could build across all three banks.

    3) The southern suburbs of Minneapolis-St. Paul - particularly the area near Prior Lake, which is a relatively narrow lake running SW-NE with a constriction in the middle. Given SC4's transportation model, this could make a very nifty challenge for those who enjoy designing conventional, road-centered transportation networks... and hours upon hours of fun for those who like to play with ferries. 9.gif It would probably work best, of course, to squeeze this lake into one tile if possible... but this is going to require some compression, as the lake is basically the hypotenuse to a triangle with 2.8-mile legs, and a large city at 1:1 scale in SC4 is supposed to be about 2.5 miles on a side.

Hopefully, these are workable suggestions... if you need any more information about these areas to get the projects off the ground, feel free to let me know in the thread or my e-mail (which I *think* I put in my profile... LOL.) Also, I don't want to feel like a total mooch for marching in here as a $%&^! and dumping in three map requests... 3.gif so please let me know of any ways I can actively contribute to the SimTropolis community. I'm not much good with side tools like the BAT, or the programming innards of the game... but my level of in-game experience is certainly up there. 1.gif

How are things going right now? I'm new to this topic so I was reading way back at the beginning, sounds pretty busy. Have things calmed down now? I don't have so much a particular location request but more a type of terrain. Its very likely that what I want it already out there, but hard to find....

Disregard if busy: I'm looking for something very mountainous, maybe a few rivers, not much flat areas....I'm interested in building cities (actually closer to small towns, villages and farms) restricted by terrain into narrow valleys along ravines. Anything like this already exists? If someone would like to make a map like this, small size would be just fine, I'm not making a metropolis.

Thanks y'all! (No, not Texan, just Japanese with Texan friends)

xePh3roK: I'm going to give your Vienna map a shot - this'll be my first international map, so I can't say at the moment exactly how long it will take. If it goes smoothly, it should only be a day or two - please keep an eye on my thread for a preview. Thanks!
