Thanks for the info, Skippydam!

I have been doing a lot of experiments with the mod myself.

I don't use MicroDEM... but I do test the maps that I make with the mod to make sure the elevations/sea levels are correct.

I will, however, make sure to keep what you said in mind. 29.gif

Mallow, what program do you use? I'd like to give it a try as an alternative to my learning experience with MICRODEM.

I would also be interested in this. Could you please post a link to the site..please..44.gif

EDIT:

Okay, addressing some of the issues that have come up over the past few days. First, I'd like to say why I haven't been contributing as much maps as I should. The answer is simple, I am pretty busy right now with school and getting high school squared away for next year. Once summer comes along I will have much more time even after my English Honors summer school is over. To conclude, I am not a dead leader. LOL! Anyway, on to addresss dead member and dead requests issues.

Dead Members

First off. Dead members. Members will stay part of the Mapp Squad wether they are dead or not. Their punishment on the other hand is not having an awesome custom member label and not being what I call a reliable member.

Summary: Dead members can stay but they don't get custom labels till they prove that they are active again.

Dead Requests

Okay, now on to dead requests. This is starting to become an issue. REQUESTS! I really like comdude's rules about having a request and would like those posted on the first post of the request thread. RHF, you will have to help out here since you are the owner of that thread and I cannot edit it. RHF, to keep requests organize I need you to make a list of all past, present, and future requests. This will help the mapp squad know what requests are done or have not yet been started.

A request will be called a dead request when the following happen:
  1. The member that requested the map never brings the map idea up again and does not show any interest in the maps progress. Signs of not being interested include but are not limited to; not contact the Mapp Squader that is fulfilling the request, not posting in the requests thread to remind anyone, and just not doing anything what so ever.
  2. A request can also become dead if it is not taken up by a Mapp Squader in 2 days.

There are also ways a request will be noticed and will be picked right away. These ways are:

  1. More than one member requests the same map, especially if conditions 1 and 2 are at least somewhat true.
  2. If you get a group of members together 5-10 and request the map by making a thread.

Okay, I believe I have gone over everything about dead requests and dead members. I also have more rules and more ideas to post. I will update this post again soon... 44.gif

I really like your new rules for the requests. It will make us much more organized and will prevent us from filling requests that aren't serious.

Great job TNS.

I'm thinking that the requests I get will be a very narrow spectrum.  But the thing is, I will have contact with them as I do it. I will know when my requests are dead.  from now on, I am going to ask the requester themself to be the quality control for the finised product.

No Problem Mallow.....  The other feature you can do within the mod (Or make your own) is change the sea level to be further towards the bottom.  That way you can create higher mountains.  I believe SC4 goes about 3000 meters or close to it from top to bottom.  I figured out that a sea level of about 20 was good because you can still see the whales and boats will go through with no problem.   I have to go through and download the reader and such again so I may play with it.

Using Micro dem is not too hard.  Between here and Simcitycentral, there are some easy ways to use to to create maps.   The hard part is going through and making your shorelines better formed.  Keep up the good work on the maps...

Yeah, MICRODEM is what I use, and it isn't too hard. I didn't know there were other programs out there that do the same thing though. It gets the job done and with the experience that I have with it, it's pretty easy and quick to use.

BTW, my latest map, Gold Beach, OR, will be released today. I posted a picture of it in my mapping thread if anyone's interested. It's a really cool map, with all kinds of terrain features, including mountains, valleys, flat land, a river, and ocean. It's inspired by flamesrock's maps and hopefully it will be a success. 10.gif

I had MICRODEM since yesterday. Toady, I don't. Since its installation my PC has gone haywire. I take it off and things seem ok again. I'm gonna stick to making fantasy requests and making my own maps for Mapp Squad from now on.

The program I am using is called Global Mapper 5... but it is just a trial version... so I printscreen my terrain from it and edit as necessary. It's probably harder to use than MicroDEM.... but I'm too lazy to download MicroDEM right now. 18.gif

Announcement: Gold Beach, OR has been released! Although there is a problem. I had to update it a couple times because I screwed up getting the right rendered screenshot on there. Now the map is showing up the way it is supposed to, but not on the All Files link! It shows up when clicking ST Exchange, Maps, and searching comdude21. What could be the problem?

EDIT: Never mind, it's showing up now, I guess it takes longer to show up there than the other places on the STEX. 3.gif

Alright, my two map uploads for this Tuesday are complete and on the STEX! They are Gold Beach, OR, and Koyuk, AK. Both are coastal regions, with varied terrains and plenty of building space.

Links to both of the maps:

Gold Beach, Oregon

Koyuk, Alaska

Sorry for double posting here, there isn't much activity in this thread though. Anyways, I have a question. Would it be okay if I made some maps independent from the Mapp Squad? I may want to release a couple on their own, separate from the Mapp Squad. Thanks.

I'm sure that would be cool, people do that with BATs, I know Frogface recently released some BATs on his own even though he's on NDEX. I'm cool with it, but check with TNS first.

Thanks for allowing me to do that. Well, I don't plan on releasing any non-Mapp Squad maps right now, but maybe in the future. We'll see.

Is this the right thread to ask how my Melbourne maps are progressing? I just don't want them forgotten because I know you guys make alot of maps. Thanks squad guys. P.S. If the member making these maps replies, that would be fantastic.

Well, I'm not making the maps, but I'm sure that Mallow will get back to you soon. In the mean time, make sure to post all request-related comments in the request thread. Thanks.

Just to let everyone know that I will be creating an idea thread, so if you are looking for a random terrain, or a specific type, just post there and I'll be willing to find an area for ya.

Hey everyone!

First of all, welcome to all our new members, newyorkrunaway1, lookinin, and Fairlane500. It's really, really nice to have all of you here.

Second of all, congratulations to tijn21 and MrVegetable on your new custom labels! They look really nice!

Third of all, it's really great to see new life here at the Mapp Squad. Most of our members are high-school age, I believe, so we were all pretty busy with school and other things, but now it's summer and everything is in full swing! Thanks everyone for your constant support and dedication to the Mapp Squad!

Your PR Guy,

RHF

Region Census allows you to view and even save the image of the whole region. Just go to file, save image (once you've loaded your region) and it will save the entire region picture for you! 19.gif
