    howdy miptag;

customizing a region is a bit difficult at first, but actually quite simple after done a few times.
    1) begin a new region.
    2) shut down the game.
    3) find your region folder, found in your MyDocuments/SimCity4/Regions file - there should be a filename with your newly created region within.
    4) inside, you will find a file called config - you can resize it with about any paint program. it is good to experiment here and there, just to make sure your system can handle a region of the new size.
    5) you can also customize what types of cities you have within - if the config file is all blue, you will have all large city tiles. Green will make all medium. Red will make all small.
    6) save the config file.
    7) restart the game - it SHOULD take you to the default Maxis region. then, open up the region you just customized - the map should be of a different size now. Again, it helps to make sure your system can handle a particular map size, if you are making a larger one. and remember, the more you add to a map, the more it will slow down.

    hope this helps.

looking rather nice, nealos101 - once the CycleDogg trees have taken root everywhere on the map and the water colors match up, i'm thinking this will be quite  striking region. i really do like your mountains quite a bit too...the rivers could use a little roughening up on the edges IMHO, but eeing you have already built along them, you might want to skip over that bit of advise.

Alkaola: Thanks for the feedback - Im glad you like!

MrCinatit: Thanks for the great comment! I'll take it into consideration in future - the rivers were tough to sculpt - especially through that canyon part.  The trees and water mod should be in full effect by the time I'm finished with San Fernandes.  Glad to see a moderator and Trixie Award winner likes my CJ!

    Thanks, Nealos101.

    Update 25

    Teaser pictures of LPX...

Thanks to ImageShack for Free Image Hosting .

    Los
    The Airport is under construction!

The Los Porablos international airport is on the way... City Hall and San Protello state governers are VERY excited.

    LPX
Over 100,000 inhabitants will use this airport for travelling to the other cities in San Portello.

Update 25 will be the big one to show this off... stay tuned!

    Meanwhile
Meanwhile, with the I-35 comes a descovery... A crater.  The Army won't allow us to post pictures of any other areas...

Could this mean something? Is there something going on? We don't know...

    I-35
The I-35 digs through the forest under the shadow of the mountain peak - people say this is a good spot for spotting aircraft... we say otherwise.

The forest can hide a massive UFO at nightime and spectators will have a bit of trouble looking at in daytime also, but that doesn't stop the army there...

    The
We tried to get past this installation but the officers wasn't moving.  They also had heavy-machine guns, which didn't help...

Another update to come! Any ideas/comments would be lovely before LPX arrives...

    San Portello receives first Airport!

    Los
Built in 198 to peak demand for air flights all over simnation, the airport gradually expanded through the next decade with the newest addition of Terminals 2 & 3 built last year.

    Terminal
The Freeway network is very busy... at one stage in time 3 freeways link together... expect peak traffic at major interchange hours.

    Terminals
Terminal 2 (No El-Train) serves most of the in-state flights, as well as some over-crowded inter-national flights.  Terminal 3 deals with national flights.  Terminal one specialises in international-flights full stop.

    Cargo
The cargo gate - servicing some major transportation centres.  Everying that comes here is many non-liquid; the biggest receiver being mail.  The city gains thounds of simoleans every month from some institutions in the cargo gate.  You can also see the main junction between the SimGoober viaduct Freeway and the Central Freeway.

    Hotels
These large hotels cater for visitors - one may be grotty - it's becuase a plane hit it not too long ago.

    Simgoober
This is the SimGoober freeway - the elevated section heads back into Mount Chinchilla whilst the ground highway bridges off into the SimGoober viaduct and the Airport Freeway.

    Transportation
As you can see, the central freeway bridges off into the SimGoober Viaduct before interchanging with the Airport freeway.  Eventually, the airport freeway links back to Simgoober.

    That's all for now!

Small Minor Adjustment: Los Porablos port now caters a trade connection between here and Brennt Shores County , and San Fernandes will be hosting the huge Brenntian Navy for one of it's parades! Pictures following very shortly...

    Update 27

    Journeys of the I-35

    Castlehttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/7987/nealos101update27000003na.jpg align=baseline>
27.1 Castle Foster, home to the richest of the rich, most bachelorist of the bachelors, king of money, emporer of state... Some rich guy.

The construction of the I-35 began long ago when the theory of an Interstate was still being questioned.  Now, the I-35 sculpts through the Rockerfellers with a maintenance contract LONG overdue.

    Castlehttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/8228/nealos101update27000015ey.jpg align=baseline>
27.2 Castle Foster itslef draws it's power from a turbine, and feeds from the water table to feed it's drinking requirements.  The grounds, as impressive as they are compare to nothing when given to Georgetown's central park.

The I-35 passes under the silent and remote town of Pineneedle, where residents are already suffering from bad commute times and worn tires...

    Pineneedlehttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/454/nealos101update27000021ud.jpg align=baseline>
27.3 City Governers and State Officials are not bothered about the fact that the I-35 runs UNDER Pineneedle, becuase maintainence is easy, especially in a tunnel.

The I-35 cuts through the root of the mountain and under a small inlet of housing; the tuneel itself will be a strong maintainance project costing roughly 50,000,000$.

    Thehttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/6792/nealos101update27000030ou.jpg align=baseline>
27.4 The castle doesn't make a peep in it's mountain range - it just enjoys looking at the inhabitants of Foster as they live happily... unaware that the bachelor himself could be a very dangerous man...

Meanwhile plans are drawn up very carefully for lane widening for the tunnel - a risky task? Nah...

    Widenhttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/1747/nealos101update27000046mr.jpg align=baseline>
27.5 the main junction that serves Pineneedle.  Authorities are confused at whether or not they should build another for service reasons or to just make the interstate more efficient.

Within the castle, operations teams observe the I-35's traffic to San Fernandes...

    Thehttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/2706/nealos101update27000056lj.jpg align=baseline>
27.6 Measuring an o.k. for traffic, it is decided that no new junction is needed and that we move on.

The planners move on to the river crossing next door...

    Thehttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/1802/nealos101update27000069lh.jpg align=baseline>
27.7 See the castle? I can't - I can only see the grounds...

And of course the I-35's present course...

    Transportationhttp://img11.echo.cx/img11/9404/nealos101update27000071hk.jpg align=baseline>
28.8 A complex set of roads, only the long line that is red can tell you which is the most used.

Hippies gave up the fight today as planners admitted no trees will be touched.  Hoorah!

Hope you liked! Thanks for comments!

    Update 28

    Journeys of the I-35

On the I-35's next stop on the refurbishment list, comes the terrible, the squelching and disgusting... Oh wait... It seems kinda kool... It's Estra Crossing!

    Thehttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/6858/nealos101update28000005hs.jpg align=baseline>
28.1 The township of Estra looks over the great Bridge, that can be seen from the Golden River for miles and miles away from the tallest peak of the Rockerfellers (It's just a pain to get to the town you see from the Bridge).

The I-35's delicate superiority here has made the Estra Valley itself a very bad environment to develop in.  You stop for coffee at a local coffee shop in the valley and wonder how long has it been since the last motel was built here? There isn't a motel! Get the picture? We had to take some serious steps in redesigning the Bridge's framework and colour-cordination to fit the current landscape settings...

    Thehttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/1314/nealos101update28000013rh.jpg align=baseline>
28.2 We weren't positively going for the concrete pylons... we had to put them there to hold up the bridge... silly!

At the moment the bridge is starting to fall to peices and we need a newer convention for the whole super-street-over-the-river thing... so our design was the above.

    Oppositehttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/2432/nealos101update28000024hg.jpg align=baseline>
28.3 The Forest may have to move a bit while we maintain the bridge itself - but we have confidence in our contractors to deliver.

Overall, the Bridge itself is the main problem with the current situation... and we need a hell of alot more equipment to deal with the demand for this maintainance bill...

    Thehttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/2648/nealos101update28000039wt.jpg align=baseline>
28.4 Steel Cateleiver - good, generic and peacefully like the older version.  Now we have to knock it down and rebuild it! The ferry service is going to get some business for once...

And the runup to the Bridge? Both sides of the valley will be dug up, resurfaced and sealed before the Bridge is taken apart.  Upon that time, the Interstate on the left of the river will be fully operational again.  Horaah for customs!

    Righthttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/8697/nealos101update28000049jr.jpg align=baseline>
28.5 Traversing this slope at the moment is very hard... it's a sharp cut through the hills... we want to change this so that there is still a cut... but most of it now a gradual 'S' climb as you see above.

The right side of the river is the hardest part of this operation - as we have yet another Bridge to implement on the way.

    Lefthttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/1724/nealos101update28000058tt.jpg align=baseline>
28.6 Already a good shape, this side of the valley only needs a good cut&stick job.

We can say right now the valley is in shambles, but soon it'll transform into wreckadge to this...

    Thehttp://img171.echo.cx/img171/912/nealos101update28000065kq.jpg align=baseline>
    28.7 The final view.

Hope you enjoyed this update! Any comments will be appreciated!

    Update 29

Los Porablos impresses big office types!

    Commonhttp://img97.echo.cx/img97/6749/nealos101update29000044xz.jpg width=393 align=baseline>
29.1 A common newspaper article front cover

Los Porablos still moves up the scale ladder - but it is still well behind San Fernandes and Georgetown.

    Hollywoodhttp://img97.echo.cx/img97/835/nealos101update29000009oo.jpg align=baseline>
29.2 Hollywood has come to town!

Under the hot bands and sweaty exotic beaches comes Hollywood, the Los Porablos richness!

    Jollywoodhttp://img97.echo.cx/img97/9050/nealos101update29000019yk.jpg align=baseline>
29.3 Jollywood studios, the best place in town - makes the money for Simnation and gives it all away to charity after it's finished! What a story!

With all the excitement from the movies - it's great stuff to see the actual city itself is doing well...

    Ahttp://img97.echo.cx/img97/6908/nealos101update29000020pg.jpg align=baseline>
29.4 City slicker? Not in Los Porablos!

The city itself isn't going too bad, soon, it'll be finished and the blueprints for San Fernandes will begin.  Next update hopefully along with the next installment of the Journeys of the I-35.  All we need left to do is this...

    What'shttp://img97.echo.cx/img97/5760/nealos101update29000034cb.jpg align=baseline>
29.5 All that's left to do with Los Porablos.  Any blank areas you see will be filled in and I'll be thinking about adding some stories.

    Main areas of filling required:

    • Beverly Heights - Uphill and downhill, simple fill.
    • Industrial Sector of Orton Point - Industry in that missing link west.
    • LPX - Filling in blank areas
Los Porablos is doing well - City Hall would like to thank everyone for it's support...

...San Fernandes City Hall hopes it'll get the same kind of support! We look forward to following it's progress!

    Thanks. Nealos101.

Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!
