Is buying Rush Hour now worth it???

I bought SimCity 4 just after it came out but for one reason or another (such as moving halfway around the world) I didn't really play it very much until the last 2-3 months.  Therefore, I never got the Rush Hour expansion.

My question is, is do you think it is worth it to buy it now as part of the SimCity 4 Deluxe package??  Is there any chance something new will be coming along soon that I should just wait for???

Thanks

It's definitely worth it. The RH Ex. Pack, the NAM (Network Addon Mod), and the many other great transportation BATs and Mods really make your city's transportation at least more realistic than with just SC4. Also, there have been some speculations on a SC5, but I wouldn't wait around on that, so yes, RH is a necessity. Oh, and if you have any questions about the things listed above or anything else you may need, just ask by PM or by these threads.

By the way, WELCOME TO SIMTROPOLIS! Hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome to Simtropolis Lurch! 39.gifI hope you enjoy yourself here! 10.gif

Buying RH is definitely worth it as it is now quite cheap now and I doubt Maxis will ever release another expansion pack for SC4. Also, without RH you are very limited to the things you can download from this website but with RH you can download everything from this website so I say Yes, it is definitely worth buying it. 1.gif

Buy it. Either real cheap off ebay or as part of Deluxe. Deluxe is the only version of SC4 that I know. I can't imagine playing SC4 with out the RH features.

I'm in the same boat... well, not the one that moved me across the world. 4.gif

I bought SC4 when it came out, just like the previous versions (since the original on the Amiga). I toyed with it and then shelved it. I remember seeing RH when it hit the stores, but I just thought, "If I want to drive around the city, I'll buy GTA instead."

Well, that was maybe bad marketing. Sure, I can "drive" in RH, but it adds so much more to the standard SC4. Not only is there new content and enhancments, nearly everything you find created by the fan community is for RH/Deluxe and not for nilla SC4.

I learned this recently when I decided to reinstall SC4 and give it another shot. While updating it and searching for tips on the Web, I found this site and all it had to offer.

The problem is, I went nuts downloading stuff. Since then, I reinstalled Deluxe and was a bit more selective in what I downloaded. No matter what, adding the add-ons can be a bit complex what with checking for dependencies and so on. So my suggestion is to take it slow and try out a few things first before adding everything.

I really feel that RH + community-add-ons turns this SC4 into SC5. RH/Deluxe is a decent expansion to the game, but the community has gone way beyond that (what with NAM and all). No, it is not the real SC5 if that every will exist - but it is that different!

The other bad thing about starting with RH/Deluxe so late is that we missed some really great stuff according to CJs I've seen and posts I've read - things like most of Marrest's stuff, iLive Reader, etc.

Oh well... maybe the team here can bring some of this back. In the meantime, I still have a lot of discovery and learning in what I did download.

Just a stupid question....but wasn't SC4 & rush hour (and the 2 pack set) all pulled from production? I havent seen it on the shelves in over a year, and every site I've visited (Amazon, etc) says it's not available anymore. I'm glad I got it right after it came out....

It was worth buying it when it came out...I got it for $10 and on top of that a $10 rebate (so, it was almost free after a couple of months).

I have continued to see SimCity 4 Deluxe in stores such as Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and EB Games. In addition, the American version is available from Amazon.com for USD19.99. Here's the link.

ahh - ok, I didn't see that before, I just looked up the original SC4, which isn't around anymore. I wonder if that version you posted is already patched.

I just got the deluxe version as recent as 2 (or 3) months ago from UK Amazon and it's patched. I suppose this apply to the American Amazon as well no? Either way, patching is easy...provided that you know which version your game is of course!

I think so..It's cheap to buy. It also allows you to expand your game as alot of user made plugins require RH. That's why I bought it.

I think the thing people don't know is that Rush Hour is no longer available. Now you have to buy SC4 Deluxe as a whole. It's still at a reasonable price, so i would get it. A lot of buildings and others on the STEX require RH or Deluxe, so it's well worth the cost 4.gif

Welcome to Simtropolis meakin88! 39.gifI hope you have a great time here! 10.gif

You unzip the download and place it into your My Documents/Sim City 4/Plugins folder. If this doesn't work, the building you are trying to download could be a growable which means you have to zone some Residential, Commercial or Industrial zones and get to the required stage to make it grow or it could be a reward which means you have to meet some requirements before you can use it in your city. Some downloads have automatic installers in their zip file and if that's the case double click on it to open it and follow the instructions. If the building you downloaded comes with a ReadMe always read it as it contains useful information on how to get the building into the game. Hope this helps.

hi. i'm new to the boards with posting but i have been reading it and downloading mods and ltos and following cj's for a while.

to asnwer the question in the post: rush hour is not available anymore. you have to get the deluxe edition which includes both original sim city 4 and sim city rush hour.

Even so, there is even a special plastic box that you can get now for $30, its just like the boxes the other sims games come in.

When I first started playing SC4, I was all like: "A mod with mainly transit options? Boring."<br /><br /><br />Then I actually used it once.<br /><br />I now consider vanilla SC4 to be essentially broken, and Rush Hour to be the (rather expensive!) bugfix.
