You've obviuosly jumped a lot of pages on this thread, otherwise you would have seen this link on page 3, which takes you, not to Windows Update page, but, directly to DirectX page.

At the right of that page you will see the Quick Links. Press where it says

"Get the Latest DirectX Here"

I have just used this great little program for the first time and it works superbly. When you start using it you will have to play with it a bit to see how the changes work out in the actual region. After this initial try-out you can far easier then with the god-mode tools create great regions. Thank you very very much for creating and sharing this tool. I smell a Trixie coming your way already.

I went there, and it didn't answer the question directly.. thanks (and thanks for your needlessly condescending and contentious remarks PoS .. clearly your title is self-proclaimed and not earned. Its a shame you lack the knowledge to back up your apparent NEED to police other's behaviour) .. For others interested in the FACTS instead of blathering, my further research has shown that :

MICROSOFT UPDATE does in fact maintain the latest version of DirectX IF you use XP HOME or XP PRO _and_ use the auto-update feature..

I did not further this research for other versions of WINDOWS, but since MOST versions of WINDOWS (other than server OS's) prior to XP ar no longer officially supported, I EXPECT NO. Folk using earlier versions should probably use this method.

For those at least using XP, this should put your minds at ease regarding YOUR version of DX.

I asked this question as I thought you may have known this off-hand. Excuse this little side excursion 4.gif At least this thread prompted me to find from MS that for XP users at least, you need not worry if you're using the update system. Have a good one.

@SC4BOY - I'm almost sure the auto-update does not upgrade the DirectX version as it does with other components of the OS, but I could be wrong, nevertheless, check your DX version, the lastest one is dated from April 4th. On Start/Run windows, enter dxdiag and check it up. 2.gif

when i open it. i get a warning that this program is not safe, i'm wondering if it realy is safe then. did anyone had this to??? but did installed it and everuthing went right. or is there just nothing wrong with it. answer quik please. beacause i realy could use this program.

It dosnt even freaken work. I installed DirectX and got ride of the d3dx9_26.dll . Then when I tryed it again it gave me anthor error. This thing is spam and is a waste of peoples time. I like the idea but come on it dosnt even work. Plus i'm hearing about so many problumes with this program its not even funny. I'm going to learn how to make maps with photoshop, it will save more time then trying to find the reason why this program dosn't work

i suppose it depends on the computer spec, as does its stability, its perfectly stable on my system, so lets lay-off him eh favrekev? he is making a groundbreaking tool here

fish. u can rotate it to ANY view from ANY angle (even upside down... lol) by using the move controls

Rayden.. yes it is properly updated.. the date is 4/30/06 version 9.05.0132.0000 and it is handled by auto-update at least on my PC.. perhaps your's works differently somehow.. 

Just as a side note, I guess for SURE we'll only know at the NEXT update for absolutely, totally, positively, completely.. etc etc .. 17.gif .. Since I follow the threads on my posts off and on, we'll know some day  I guess.. hehe... 4.gif .. dunno how often they update it..

i just downloaded version 6 and a new version of Direct X and installed the SC4Terraformer and when i open it, it says that it failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found.  But it is in my SC4Terraformer folder.  The message also says re-installing the application might fix the problem.  However, i have re-installed it 5 or 6 times and nothing happens.  Could you please help.  thanks

When I started the program, it said "This Application has failed to start because d3dx9_26.dl was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Well, I re-installed it, twice, and it sill didn't work. I re-downloaded it and installed it, still doesnt work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Wow. I'm relly stupid please ignore this.     Can you put more information about the message ? It should say a file and a line number at least

    edit : Can you also PM your config ? I'll take a look, I suspect I already corrected that one one the version I sent to CDB, I haven't plan for such huge map ( the 60 width in your region 15.gif ). If it is what I'm thinking of, it is corrected. You can retry on next version.

    Don't know for sure about auto update and DirectX, but what I know is that the DirectX Team do an update every two months.

    I currently use the SDK update of october ( ie for developers ) so if you have updated from then you don't need to update anymore at least for SC4Terraformer.

    If I change the SDK I used I will tell everyone to update accordingly

    On my computer, every program I download I got that warning, it is not related to SC4Terraformer but how you configure your internet setting, and that is the good way to do

    I hope it is safe, I use the latest antivirus database I have, so I should not propagate virus. There is no spyware etc in it

    It is supposed to work great on a good pc with a high GFX Card Geforce 5 at least,

    But as FavreKev04 didn't notice, it is an alpha version, so for now there is still bugs and lags. I'll do my best to get rid of them

    I have sent a test version to CDB and Ynterboy, as I made some change about the freezing bug some of you have.

    Seems that I havn"t break anything, as I code it blindly

    If someone with the freezing bug ( should be someone with a GFX card that is less than Geforce 5 I think ) is interesting in testing send me a PM.

    It will help me a lot at least less people won't complain ( I hope so )

    for now the test machines are :

    my home pc (GF6)

    my office pc (GF6)

    Ynterboy pc (Don't remember, but a good one )

    CDB pc ( A good one, but is making huge region, so he experience freezing also )

    So i really want to add a low end pc to this list

    Hi !! I Downloaded the V.6, and the DirectX, I chosse a directory, I put the sea level, the program shows me the Report and shows the config, i unlock the city i want to make changes but when i push OK in the windows, happen next:

    Can you name your GFX card ?

    This error is when I can't get DirectX to setup correctly. even if you have the correct up to date version. It is the first time I am aware of such a bug. The two last errors won't normally show up, as it is for a path for fallback rendering. The only thing I can suppose is that your card can't do DirectX in windowed mode.

    It will work on a GeForce 4, but it will lag.

    Maybe you could have an option that allows me to select not to have any textures (just colours)?

    I was just pointed that it's work great on GF5, and under it may not work that great 4.gif

    It is not a problem of texture, as I use only one, but more a problem of number of polygons drawn, and the water as you already pointed it Edit: I will also add a no texture option 4.gif.

    I've just added a 'Draw/Undraw water' option,this may give some of you a big boost

    I've also added a "Compute Shadows" option, this may give some kind of boost also

    I'm currently working on the freezing bug, seems that for now, I have get rid of it.

    I will add Level of Detail in future version, that will decrease the number of polygon to be drawn.

    For now, I think that if you look as vertically as possible, you will reduce the number of poly, and can get descent frame rate ( not that descent but better )

    I've also add a view city border, using the config.bmp, it speed up the recolorization process as none occurs in this case.

    The only left lag for now is that if you lock some cities, when the tools rewrite the good elevation on those cities it can take some time

    Hope this is of some help.  I have been busy this weekend and have not gotten anymore test time in on the program.

    BTW I am testing on a laptop....  It has a P4 1.5Ghz M processor with 1GB DDR RAM and ATI Raedon 9000 video card,  the program lags a bit but its not really all that bad in my opinion.  It takes about 2-3 seconds to reload after I finish a drawing command.

    I"ve just built a new version which have a "show city border" features, so you can see them and compare 4.gif

    I don"t know if Ynterboy and CDB will have time to test it today

    You're region look great, and finally I saw pic in your post in previous page 4.gif

    I'm glad that you post them, now everyone can see that it is not bullshit 4.gif

    For lagging the last version will be better, I hope no lagging with your config 4.gif

    so how does this program work, i dont have time to read about it, does it terraform and save as .sc4, or does it make an image that can be used to render a region

    I forgot to mention this in my other post earlier.

    When I created the region and saved it I went into Sim City to see if it worked.  What I found was the region was all water.  For my region to show up what I had to do was go into each city tile separately and save them before my region finally took shape in Sim City.  It doesnt bother me but I dont know if you can fix that.

    Thanks for the comment on the region maybe tonight I will do a bigger region test and then I will post a whole region photo of it.

    EDIT If you would like I can take the test file and do some further testing.
