When textures go grey, save the file, under a ndew name, and reopen.  Not sure why this happens, but GMAX loses the textures every so often, and reloading the file helps.  Save under a new name, so that if you don't like the changes, you can just go back to the previous.

And the mirror tool in GMAX is broken.  Don't work, don't use it....

I suggest adding a UVW map under modifiers for both problems and choosing planar. This should work for the second one but the first I am not too sure.

It doesn't work!26.gif

I've tried everything, saving with another name, restarting the pc, re-installing gmax, mergging in another file, but I still get the gray rendering!

My building is useless! I have no Idea what to do; usually, when this happened I opened the file again and then the textures would appear whn rendering, but now they are lost indiferently.

This is very annoying32.gif

Hold on a second... are the textures ALWAYS grey when you preview?  If that is the case, you probably have them set up wrong.  I have several times assigned the texture file to the wrong aspect of the texture, like the Specular instead of the Diffuse.  You won't notice what you did until a preview, as in the perspective mode it looks lilke you did it right.

Hi, I have a few models that I plan to release soon(ish), indeed I had hoped to
have had the appartment tower, pictured below, out by now, but I hit a snag
when I recently tried to turn some windows into Night Windows ...

nitelitewndprb.jpg

anyone had this problem before? I have the req simcity.ea.com update and have no other
problems with the BAT.
Thanks in advance for any advice/help,

That particular problem is a real $%&^!. I run into it quite a few times. I've never found a good way to fix it, so I just put an Edit Mesh modifier on and move the End Cap onto the Begin Cap, and then move it out. So you move the end cap in an L shape.

I just have the same problem like Lamb...
I worked on my model and everything was ok, but when I started texturing everthing error came up and comes up all the time I try to texture again... The curious about it is, that it never happened before and it does not happen in any other models

I solved it, an object I modeled very weird caused the error. I've just redone it with another technic2.gif

I have the following problem:

My BAT seems to work more with virtual memory than with RAM.

I have 512MB RAM.  When I open a scene, the BAT runs smoothly. After a while, after working with the model, previewing and other stuff that occupies memory space, the BAT seems to start using the virtual memory.  A hint to that gives the task manager, which shows around 512MB memory availabe when I start working with the BAT, then, when it slows down it shows around 756MB which is my virtual memory.

The thing is, that the objects are not necessarily huge or super detailed, not at all. It just happened today with a scene of 140.000 polys and only 11.000 of them visible (unhidden). My PC is Athlon XP 2100.

Anyone knows about that?

I need some help concerning BAT exports (this would look very easy to most BAT users). I have searched a lot in the forums but I have not found answers to my problem.

As I can see, most (almost all) BAT-exported models have instance IDs in the base range of 0x00030000. My BAT installation currently exports at the 0x001d0000 range (and advances at every export). Any way to reset it back to 0x00030000? (or better yet specify it?).

Also, can I specify the group ID? I understand that this is somehow automatically generated (probably by hashing the model name or by encoding the rendering date/time), but it would be nice if it was possible to specify it. Anyway, this is not as important (as it can be easily changed by using the iLive), the instance IDs are way harder to change because you have to change the material IDs in the S3D files as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My modelling tool is GMAX V1.2.

Check the scale of your object. That seems very huge.

The scale should be 16.0 to see the lot tiles, but 1.0 to see details. Zoom 5 shows in 16.0.

just a note on makeing custom LOD's this is the first time I have seen this but sometimes after deleting LOD's and creating your own the BAT will decide to make its own regardles then you end up with 6 LOD's (2LOD3) (2LOD4) and (2LOD5) just a word of caution

majorpain - sometimes it gets stuck because it runs out of memory. if you have two hard drives on your machine here is the best way to solve that problem. go into control panel and double click on system and click on setting under performance and click advanced this is where you can set virtual memory at I think the max is 3 or 4 gig of hard drive space that can be alocated for virtual memory. try that I hope it works for you. I hav not had that problem since.

Hey i have a problem, ive been workign very hard on a BAT project of mine, before exiting BAT is saved my work, then exited. Less than five minutes ago i opened the BAT up and tried too open up my project all i get is File failed too open, what does this mean? is it corrupted entirely? or is there some other problem that is restricting the file from opening up properly. I really hope i can find a way around this problem i worked hours on it today. I have a backup up but it's from an earlier stage, and i would hate too go back several stages too do work ive alreadys done. I hate GMAX/BAT the program is so inferior.

This is the closest zoom, those squares are 1x1.

6underground: try merging it into a new file, if this doesn't worke, merge them object by object.

Somehow I had inadvertantly managed to shrink the transform gizmo (the tool with the arrows) as well.  How I did it remains a mystery, but, it drove me nuts for a few hours till I found the solution.

From the top menu choose Customize.
From the bottom of the Customize Menu dropdown choose Preferences.
From the now opened Preferences Settings Dialog Box choose the Viewports Tab.
From the bottom of the Viewports Settings Tab find the Transform Gizmo Group.
Within the Transform Gizmo Group find the Size setting.
Increase the Size number by typing in a new size or using the arrow buttons.

Customize > Preferences > Viewports > Transform Gizmo > Size

The number is based on World Units, and remains consistent regardless of the zoom level.  I do not know what is the default BAT size.  Mine somehow while working suddenly decreased to Size 2, which was almost imperceptible against my model.  Sick of squinting and unable to successfully click on it with the mouse, I set it to Size 10.

Hope this helps.
