The Trade Center had lights ontop of them, and at night. White Support Cables would be most noticeable... When I went the the 2nd Tower Observation deck on the 110th floor in summer 00', I didn't see any cables on the 1 WTC.

If they where white, why did you make them grey? j/w

I know you put much time & effert on this project, as you said you have done alot of detail. While you jump on that particular detail...34.gif

I have not heard anything else about the night lighting. However, once you release the trade center, if I or anyone else finds out anything you think is significant enough, would you release updated versions?

As long as I still have a spare computer available for me to export on, I'll be willing to make pretty much any changes you see.

They used directional flood lights to illuminate the mast of the antenna, the focal point of the roof.  It's not like the support wires had a reason to be lit up, they were ugly and did their job and if they had been lit up they would have detracted from the focal point....the antenna.  So the reason you did not see the wires at night is because they directed the light away from them.

They look grey mainly because the game isn't using the alpha map correctly.  I don't know why it does it but it makes the wires appear meatier and because some of the black is leaking in from the background they appear darker.

Goal for finishing this massive project....

How about 9/11/4 as the day for releaseing the completed complex ?

Couldn't think of a better way to honor the anniversary date....

It also gives you time to tweek the complex to your likeing & ours as well....

    Woulfe
    * who's been thinking alot lately about how great this will be once it's all done & released *

While I can appreciate the symbolism of releasing it on 9/11/04, I don't think I can wait that long unless it's really needed to finish the lot.

40.gifIf you want to wait for 3 months than be my guess and don't download it till then but most would take it as soon as possible

don't expect updates here. Rubik is working on the petronas towers but he is exporting everything now!

Well as good as that sounds, I really don't want to make people wait another 3 months.  I'm working on getting the BSC to the help with the lot construction so hopefully it won't be longer than a month and a half.

But 9/11, if I plan it right, would be the perfect time to release the memorial edition of the lot.

That would be the best way to do it. I think you should add the name of the ones that died when you release the BAT

rubik, savethewtc sent this picture to me today; one of the first and best night shots I've seen of the plaza so far.

I think Rubik should release the lot when it's done. It'll be hard knowing the lot is done, but I can't have it.19.gif Though I do like your idea for the memorial version.1.gif

Thanks for the pic Bigmac, and make sure to tell savethewtc thanks as well.  It looks for the most part that there wasn't too much light except what came from the buildings.  From what I can see it looks like the lightposts really weren't as bright as I have them.  They look bright but looking at the pavement I really can't make out any dark or light areas....just constantly lit.

Ok I took a break from Petronas and I'm trying to finish off this base so that I can have it off for export in the next week or two.  I've tried to balance out the lighting so that the entire plaza is lit up but I think it might be a little too bright.  But I also like the look of it so I figure I might as well get a second opinion.

I think you're right about it being a bit too bright; the original plaza was surprisingly dark. As it would seem based on the picture and other things I've heard, the Sphere had little lighting at night, and the brightest spots on the plaza at night were probably the ground in front of the towers (reflected from the lobby lighting) and the tops of the nine lampposts.

K, I've toned down the lighting quite a bit and I think it looks about right.  I just don't like that the daytime shadows remain...it just throws everything off and makes the night scene look wierd.  I think that why I like the brighter version better as it hides those shadows a bit more.

I see what you mean about the shadows; the brighter lighting may be preferable in that regard. Plus, we can probably assume that the lighting in general was somewhat brighter after the 1999 plaza renovations.

Well I'll go along with whatever the general concensus is.  So i'll leave the decision open for a day or two, so make sure to tell me which version you like better.

Well it looks like it's unanimous...and I'm glad too because I like the brighter version as well.  It just makes the plaza seem more lively.

So the base has been packaged up and is set to export after the middle section of Petronas, and will hopefully start sometime this coming week.  I think I'll probably just have a low quality export done for now so that I can double check the intersection between the towers and the base and so that the BSC squad can get some basics of the lot done.  It'll be a 5 day export at least so I want to make sure everything will work properly before committing to that export.

Thanks, Bigmac! I was always at the mall, wether it be transfering to the PATH or shopping, I was there way much more than I was in the plaza. It was really nice to see those pics. And in the last one of the Gap, that marble floor is the same on they left part of at the entrace from the E train to the what was the Mall. That floor just brings back so much memories, seeing it there. Amazing that they left that part. Thanks alot for the pics 19.gif You have contributed much to this project, I thank you so much! Also if you come across and other pics, I'd love to see them 44.gif

It would be great if you could add the following:

    Have the 2 buildings on a 11 x 11 square base with
the 2 buildings [4x4 ea] (World Trade 1 & 2) in opposite corners with the globe statue in the center.

Also have the buildings provide jobs
    ( CS$, CS$, CS$$$, CO $$, CO$$$)

Have it count as park space - park benches etc
placed the same way as before 9/11
