DatGen is a SimCity 4 .dat editor that aims to be a flexible, extensible, easy-to-use modding tool. The ultimate goal of DatGen is to be accessible to users of ability levels. DatGen features a unique, intuitive user interface that aims to group and streamline different .dat viewing and editing aspects. DatGen also features a powerful and flexible plugin architecture that allows plugin tools with a wide variety of uses and functionality to be added to the program with relative ease. Existing plugins include a path viewer, SC4 hotkey editor, a 3D model viewer and a skin editor, a UI script viewer, and a simplified modding tool called EasyTweaker for novice modders, BAT users, and lot editors. Whether your new to modding, just want to tweak your lots or BAT creations, or are an advanced modd god, DatGen has the features you'll need to add that unique touch to SimCity 4.
NOTE: DATGEN PLUGINS ARE NOW UPLOADED SEPARATELY FROM DATGEN. THIS IS TO KEEP MY UPLOADS SMALL (I'M ON DIALUP), AND TO PROVIDE SMALLER DOWNLOADS WHEN PLUGINS ARE UPDATED (SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DOWNLOAD ALL OF DATGEN AGAIN).
IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS PROGRAM MAY NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 95/98/ME. IT US CURRENTLY AND ALWAYS WILL BE UNSUPPORTED ON THOSE OPERATING SYSTEMS. FEEL FREE TO TRY IT IF YOU WISH, AND I WILL OFFER LIMITED INSTALLATION AND INITIAL SETUP SUPPORT FOR WIN9X/ME USERS. DATGEN IS FULLY SUPPORTED ON WINDOWS 2000, WINDOWS XP, AND ANY FUTURE MICROSOFT WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM.

DatGen is currently a beta program, and as such, some features may not work. This download is the most STABLE and usable version of the program. Unstable or experimental releases will be marked as such, so be wary when downloading the latest version of DatGen. Also keep an eye out for PATCH downloads, as these are small updates to this larger package, and will often incorporate the latest changes if you wish to try them out before the next stable release. Since DatGen is a beta program, there is currently limited help available. A complete and comprehensive help file is in the works, and will hopefully be available sometime within the next couple months.
