About This File
Description:
Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in our solar system and is located on the planet Mars. I took the satelite photo of Olympus Mons and edited it a bit (to remove shadows etc) and to attempt to smooth the terrain out a bit to allow water and less hills.
About Olympus Mons:
Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in our solar system and is located on the planet Mars. In reality Olympus Mons is exremely flat and is surrounded by a cliff nearly 6 km high in some areas and in other areas is completely covered by huge lava veins that feed the still active volcano. The volcano also seems to have odd looking "wrinkles" all around it. These wrinkles and extremely high scarp make up what scientists call the Olympus Mons Aureole. The volcano has collapsed in on itself multiple times because of its extreme height and weight.
Three easily seen collapses can be seen on the rendered map and on the original satelite image located on the south side, the east side and the center of the volcano.
New Version Features:
-Added the Olympus Mons' Aureole.
-Permitted more "hills" in the northern terrain.
-Flattened and expanded the volcano to a more accurate size.
-Corrected the loss of meteor basins from the original version.
-Kept the north west "lake."
