In 2012, the Shopko company acquired the Pamida chain. All of the former Pamida locations acquired were re-branded to operate as a Shopko Hometown store. The Shopko Hometown stores operated in areas where a normal sized Shopko would not work. Catering to communities with a smaller population, hometown stores carried about 70% of the merchandise found in Shopko's larger stores. The first two hometown stores opened in 2010 in Oconto and Kewaunee, WI inside eariler closed Pamida locations. Shopko, founded in 1962 by James Ruben as the ShopKo corporation, was a chain of stores headquartered in Green Bay, WI. The company declared bankruptcy in January 2019 and would close all its locations by the end of June of that year. Shopko did not have the usual shoe department that other chains do. Instead, the chain had a contract with Payless Shoesource for that company to operate as an in-line tenant in the stores. In pure coincidence, Payless happened to be liquidating stores at the same time Shopko was. The Shopko name still lives on though. Shopko was founded in 1962 by James Ruben, and its first store opened in Green Bay. In 2012, Shopko merged with Pamida, a regional discount chain that operated mainly in smaller communities of 3,000 to 8,000 people; all the stores were rebranded under the Shopko Hometown name. This BAT was originally created by Bobbo662 (aka B62). Unfortunately, due to real life circumstances, he was unable to finish or upload the lot.
