  1. Hmm but those outer roads are service roads, and are not highways. I want it to look more like this. The rural highway will be perfect for the suburbs and the countryside once its done! http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=college+station,+texas&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=16&ll=43.649616,-79.630752&spn=0.007235,0.021458&t=h&iwloc=A zoom and move around for a better idea.
  2. So, how do you feel about Toronto?

(doesn't really care anymore, knows Toronto is the most multicultural city) (then he intelligently backs away from the fignt)
  3. So, how do you feel about Toronto?

Geese, what a intense bloodbath! You people really need to chill. Here is the main fact. Miami is the most multicultural city in the world, but most of that percent is of hispanic decent, which is not too diverse. Toronto, on the other hand #2, but is more ethnically mixed, which makes Toronto the most diverse city in the world. Other cities like New York, London, and Sydney are also high but are not #1, no matter how many languages are spoken.
  4. So, how do you feel about Toronto?

AAK, the 401 IS now the world's bussiest highway. It is just slightly bussier than the George Washington Bridge in New York City, the Santa Monica freeway In California and Expesssway #3 in Tokyo. It now has or is going to have 22 lanes at its widest (at the DVP) and it has plans to be widened to 24 soon! Those interchanges with the 427, 400, and the DVP, altough outdated, are still some of the most complex and biggest interchanges on the face of the earth. Note that if an interchange is 4 levels or more, an undergound or sunken portion will be biult to keep the eyesore consealed, unlike the ugly, toweing interchanges of the US.
  5. Peace Tower

Ya, your next step is to create the central block of parliment with the libary. Then, all of them including the supreme court! Great job it looks awsome!!!
  6. NAM General Discussion Thread

You can find the NAM in the modds/downloads section. It is NOT on the STEX!

Mr. C. quote> where a road splits in 2 1 lane roads? You mean like a road? Im sorry but I do not understand. Half ground, half elevated (double decker) highways have been designed and tested, but have failed to apply to simcity's game scamatics. It is not possible, sorry. However, it can be used for eyecandy with a parial functional road... that was attempted but has been abandoned some time ago.
  9. Originally posted by: cammo2003 Hmm, looking at the pictures posted by haljackey, I actually like the darker looking textures under the monorail.... At least the road and avenue textures are the same, but if the street, highway and rural highway were also the same it would look awsome. Trovin's asphalt highway texture make the highways texture look a little closer to the roads/rural highways but.. imagine having that nice, black asphalt textrue of that of roads and aves on your highways/rural highways. Now, THAT would look awsome! Smitchalias, there is a finished "alpha" version found here to biuld your rural highways. However, many things are yet to be finished (such as interchanges) and a few problems with the network configuration still need to be adress. You can directly download the modd by clicking here. BTW qurlix, if you need another hand on this project, I can do whatever I can to help! (working on the 6/8 lane project too, still new at this stuff)
  10. The US's most pathetic highways

I gotta say Interstate #69 is terrible in Port Huron, USA as well as Interstate #75 in the southern half of the American State of Michigan. I commute across the Blue Water Bridge international boarder crossing in Sarnia, Canada, from time to time. You go from the nice smooth asphalt of highway #402 on the Canadian side to riggity, bumpy, unmaintained concrete surface of these roads. You get this same result when you cross the Ohoio/Michigan state boarder on interstate #75. The highway's condition is in terriable shape and needs to be adressed. Just the Opinion of a American forigner. The USA is Canada's only neighbour, so theres no sense of us saying South of the boarder like you need to do to recongnise Mexico.
  11. Yet one more section to be adressed: Draggable elevated networks (elevated highway, elevated rail, monorail) over the RHW casues the RHW to not look or function properly. You can see in the pictures below. Also, the inntemost lane is not working properly, or at all; as cars just magically dissapear when they drive under the network. This is also not transit enabled. (sorry, internet explorer users may have trouble seeing theese, try links provided) http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/1832/crossingsmar101581155762401mediumlc3.png > > http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/269/crossingssep81581155762605mediumuf1.png *Note: these images have not photoshopped in any way, and have been taken directly from the game!
  12. Goodbye, Pluto

Neptune is kept cuse its got an atmosphere. Its bigger than pluto and people think that pluto was once a moon of Neptune untill somthing hit it, or somehow got knocked out of orbit. So Pluto has an atmosphere? Hun. Thought it didn't. Learn somthing new everyday. But, if an atmosphere is a nessary characteristic than say bye bye to Mercury too cuse its got no atmosphere. Both Earth and Mars have very thin atmospheres so they might be jepordised too. That just leaves the gas Giants and Venus if no new planets are added.
  13. Goodbye, Pluto

N_O_Body, Uranus will not lose planet status because its orbit does not intersect with another planet, as Pluto did with Neptune. Even with its tipsy-turvy ring and huge tilt, it will still be a planet. I heard from CNN International that the number of planets will jump from 9 to 12, even with elimating Pluto, so 5 more will be added. I think Xena and Ceres are canadates amoung with some of the Gailalean moons because thhey have great gravitational pull and an atmosphere (at least some do). Titan, the largest moon orbiting Saturn is also a canadate.

  15. Show us your area's highways

Okay, thats it. I am going to show you what a highway is supposed to look like. The 400-series highways of Ontatio, Canada: (Highway 401 is the widest and bussiest highway in the world) Features: -Speed: 100KPH, unless otherwise posted -Lanes: 4-24, with collector/express layout in the Toronto area on some highways -The largest network of highways owned and operated on a non-federal level -Rumble strips on all highways for their entire length -outer emergency lane on all highways for their entire length -Inner emergency lane on most highways when a concrete median devides the carrageways -High mast lighting on all major and urban interchanges -Long entrance/exit (acceleration/decelleration) ramps connect to the highway for easy merging -No weaving (no cloverleaf interchanges, they cause weaving), interchanges are spread out for smooth traffic flow -high interchange standards (MTO Parclo A4) -HOV lanes on some highways to encourage commuters to carpool or use mass transit -Overhead digital message signs post current highway conditions in many segments -High grade asphalt texture that is well maintained for a quiet, less bumpy ride unlike concrete highways (excludes 407) -No toll roads, all provincally maintined (excludes 407) -No Advertising to keep drivers focused on the road -Well made drainage system to reduce rainwater accumulation on the road surface -Well sloped/constructed for easy snow removal/winter upkeep A few Pictures (don't wanna go overboard)
  16. The best Capital City

Id have to go with Tokyo. The Imperial palace surrounded by futuristic skyscrapers just says somthing cool about that Capital city.
  17. fun screen shots

Okay, im going to try to post some new pics of mine. This time it should work alright. You will need firefox though.
  18. What does the ANT from the NAM do?

ANT stands for Additional network type or somthing like that. The ANT is used as a base to create new transportation systems like the Rural highway found in the RHW fourm in Modding: transit networks or other types of transport. Hope this helps.
  19. Originally posted by: Yoman3 I feel like a moron asking this but how do you create the 4 lanes in each direction?quote> To do that, you need to download the NAM and Rural Highway mod found here, and then drag two stretches of ANT next to each other, then drag a diagonal on the end of each piece, and then straiten it out, so that it is 4 tiles across. then drag two strips next to each other in the middle. ...Or somthing like that. Play around with it for a while to set up a collector/express syetem kinda like a multi highway made by Lakeyboy
  20. how do i widen highways

The thing is, a wider 4 lane highway is in development. Check out the RHW (rural highway development project) fourm in Modding: transit networks.
  21. If your meaning the driveway for the Holiday-In Express connecting to the RHW in my picture above, I didn't intend for it to connect to the highway at all, just thought it looked there for visual appeal. If I could elimate that driveway, I would! Roads/streets shouldn't branch off a freeway, but ramps should connect to them. The "free" in freeway means no intersections or obsitcles in the way, your free to drive without stopping. Any road with an intersecting road in it is not a highway, just a mere major road or country road. The reason why I have 2 RHWs going in both directions is because the inner one is the main expressway bypassing my airport somewhere to the left of this picture. and the outer one is a "ramp extention", kinda what you find on Highway 401 in Toronto, Canada between the 403/410 and the 427 by the airport. The 409 has a simmilar system around the 427.
  22. Rather than intersections, are over/underpasses for the RHW going to be part of this project? The only one that works is a road overpass but a Euro road version has not yet been thought of. Is this ever going to be fixed? Are overpasses going to be developed? If you can not see this picture, try the link below! As you can see in this picture, some kind of centre median would also be sutible! http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/7449/crossingsjul61511155742577mediumna5.png *Note: this image is not photoshopped in any way, and has been taken directly from the game! >>
