to stimulate rail 'growth' you could place a bus stop next to the station and a few more where the sims live. and you could put a load of toll booths on the roads going out of the city. i have this 1 motorway with 10 toll booths one after the other, this made most sims use rail.

drag the el rail through the stations again, the game always breaks the track for me when i plop the stations also there might not be demand for it, just because you add it doesnt mean your sims will use it.

XD i remember when i first played the game and i though nuclear power great! it then exploded...... people left the city, city got erased. i would just stick with coal though its the cheapest and it doesnt pollute that much if you put a load of trees around it.

Poll: How many people start a mass transit system at the begining of a city?
jackel.22 replied to sean9721's topic in SC4 Showcase
although i mentioned that i dont really splash out on mass transit if its not eyecandy, from reading your posts i got interested. i built a city of nothing but industrial connected to a city of commerce and housing. i had a massive motor way network in the industrial city but i decided to use it as a test for rails and now im hooked. i think there is almost as much rail in the city as road - i think i went a bit over board, but it works. i got over 4000 passanger trains over some stretches. and stations are mostly at 500% capacity. -
my power cant expand in pause for some reason....

i would recomend mbear's hospital its really good, it will take up more space then the normal ones but its worth it -

erm has anyone got the link for the tunnel slop mod? the previous one doesnt work any more
-
i am quite literally blown back over the chair im sitting on, this is amazing work. seriously i am in awe here.

maybe a lack of unskilled - skilled jobs, eg. you might not have enough dirty industry. the people there may be rich-ish but they might not have a high iq therefore they might not be able to work in hi tech industry, so make sure you have sufficient ammounts of each type.

here are really the essentials; 1. NAM - (found in the mods section) 2. get the simcity startup manager, i think if you pm andreas roth or post on the stex forum you will get a response with a link -its on the german site- 3.PEG canals and rivers ( since peg has a conversion form river to canal i find it more usefull then simgroobers canals) 4. basically most of PEGASUS' work 5. tree mods(found in the stex not the mod setion) 6. bridge height mod (optional not a must but it helps) they are realy the top five things to get you started imo, but hey i have over 150 plugins now soooo there is no limit to how much stuff you can have.......... ps. also check out stuff by jeronij he has some good stuff, edit: spelling changes

NAM can alos affect the way sims navigate your city, if you checked the pathfinding option your sims will use common sence for once and there roots will be more realistic and longer. nam also gives you round abouts (drag two pieces of road to make a 2x2 square and it will turn into a round about) nam also adds cosmetic things such as the turning lanes you see on the roads.

for faster growth, use multiple cities. eg. use the main one your focussing on, then build up the cities surrounding that one. play them alternatly and you will find that they build up a hell of a lot quicker. and you may want to dedicate one city entirely to industry and take all the existing industry out of your orignal city and dump it in the dedicated one. this way in your commercial and residential cities you dont have to deal with pollution so much since the factories are all in another city. try to get a marina, they are brilliant for unlocking stuff from u drive it quicker then achieving the stuff.

it depends if im trying to make an eye candy city then i will splash out on loads of it. however if im trying to make a working (the city actually makes a profit) metropolis i may leave room for it to be build later but not build it at the start. -

well the most effective would be to grid your city, just make a massive grid of 6x6 squares of land. zone it like a mosaic so that you have res and commercial at intervals. put your industry in another city and connect the two cities up. note: this method while being the most practical limits the ammount you can style your city since all building have to fit in the 6x6 blocks

well you could skip playing on christmas or set the clock to a different time so that you miss it edit: didnt see the post on page 2 by andreas roth

long commute doesnt always refer to the journey length, it can be because traffic is slowing down the busses hence making it a longer commute. also if your dealing with r§§§ then i would recomend using monorail or something because iirc they hate buses..
-
imo it doesnt have to be all that drastic, they could have a check box by each dependency so that you could check the boxes on the dependencies that you need and when you down load the main item the dependancies would be down loaded too
