  1. The Simtropolis Annuarians Club

whoops, I forgot to check in. 2005-date, better late then never btw what kind of nnuarian does this makes me?
  2. Note: This guide assumes that you are using SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour expansion pack. This guide was made to help you understand the transportation system in SC4. It gives all the basic information about all existing transportation tools in game.If you find anything unclear or false in this guide please PM me and let me know. Other then that, have fun reading it. Road Tools Road tools are used for the basic layout of your city and they are important transportation tools in the game. Cheap and easy to use, the roads will be your next best friends in game... ---Streets--- Streets are the cheapest and the slowest transportation tool in the game. And they will probably be the first Road tool you're going to use. Though they are great for small, early cities and for rural areas they are useless in the more developed cities. ---Roads--- Roads are a major transportation tool in the game. They cost more then streets but can also handle more traffic. ---One-way Roads--- One-Way roads help you to specify your traffic flow. They double the capacity of your roads but reduced to only one direction. Lay them in both directions so your Sims can get to and from work. ---Avenues--- Avenues are four lane roads with a median. They are not as expensive as highways, but they allow more traffic then Roads. Make sure that you have connections to both sides to ensure good traffic flow. Highway Tools Highways are the ultimate transportation tools in SimCity. They have very large capacity for traffic and your Sims can travel quickly on them. It is important to keep in mind that highways are bi-directional. That means that you will need on- and off-ramps on both sides of highways in order for your Sims to get on and of them. ---Ground Highway--- It's exactly what it sounds like: A Highway on the ground. Ground highways are a cheaper alternative to elevated highways but more difficult to plan around for connectivity. ---Ground Highway Cloverleaf--- This is a simple highway intersection that looks like a cloverleaf... nothing complicated... A cloverleaf can be placed by connecting two highways that cross each other. ---Ground Highway T-Intersection--- When Highway A ends/merges in Highway B and makes a shape of the letter 'T' it's called a T-Intersection. --- Ground Highway Road Overpass Onramp--- This is a ramp that connects a road going over a Highway with that particular Highway. ---Ground Highway One Way Overpass Onramp--- This is a ramp that connects a One-Way road going over a Highway with that particular Highway. ---Ground Highway Avenue Overpass Onramp--- This is a ramp that connects an Avenue going over a Highway with that particular Highway. ---Ground Highway Road Side Onramp--- This is a ramp connects a Highway with a parallel Road. ---Ground Highway One Way Side Onramp--- This is a ramp that connects a Highway with a parallel one-way Road. ---Ground Highway Avenue Side Onramp--- This is a ramp that connects a Highway with a parallel Avenue. ---Elevated Highway--- 15 feet Elevated Highway, actually. It provides great traffic relief and easy to lay in heavy urban areas but it is pretty expansive. So you should plan very carefully before putting it in your city. It is very common in downtown areas. ---Elevated Highway Cloverleaf--- This is a simple highway intersection that looks like a cloverleaf... nothing complicated... A cloverleaf can be placed on two highways that crossing each other. ---Elevated Highway T-Intersection--- When Highway A ends/merges in Highway B, and makes a shape of the letter 'T' it's called T-Intersection... ---Elevated Highway Road Underpass Onramp--- A ramp that connects a road going under a Highway with that particular Highway. ---Elevated Highway One Way Underpass Onramp--- A ramp that connects a One-Way road going under a Highway with that particular Highway. ---Elevated Highway Avenue Underpass Onramp--- A ramp that connects an Avenue going under a Highway with that particular Highway. ---Elevated Highway Road Side Onramp--- A ramp connects a Highway with a parallel Road. ---Elevated Highway One Way Side Onramp--- A ramp connects a Highway with a parallel one way Road. ---Elevated Highway Avenue Side Onramp--- A ramp connects a Highway with a parallel Avenue. Note that grand rail station is a reward and will be locked. In theory, you need at least one full functional passenger train station to unlock it. But there is a bug that wont unlock it. You must either use the U-Drive-It mission or cheat to get the Grand Railroad station. ---Monorail--- Monorails are the fast futuristic looking over ground railways. They are the fastest inter-city transportation available. They are more flexible then any other rail tool but also the most expensive. Think twice before placing one in your city. ---Monorail Station--- Passengers can only board/exit at stations. Rails & Depots ---Rail--- Rail serves an important role for your Sims. If you place rail adjacent to industry, it can transport goods out of your city. Rail can also be used to efficiently move people from one place to another via passenger stations. ---Passenger Train Station--- Sims can't travel by train if they have no where to get inside. Passenger rail stations need to be placed near R`, C` and I` so that Sims can get to and from where they need to go. It helps if you put a bus stop and/or a parking garage near the passenger station. ---Freight Train Station--- Freight trains serve one purpose, which is to send industrial goods out of the city. The only two possible ways for a freight train to send the goods are if the Rail has either a direct connection to the industrial area or to a Freight Train Station. And that's actually the only use of those stations. ---Grand Railroad station--- Every big city has one of those. It's basically a passenger & a freight station with huge capacity. It also provides a boost to commercial and residential demand. Miscellaneous Transportation As your city starts to grow and more people start moving into your city, it's time to think about mass transit. Those tools can easily relieve on your traffic flow. ---Bus Stop--- Busing is the first rung on the mass transit ladder. It is very inexpensive and can be placed throughout your city without taking up too much space. This is important as your Sims are usually only willing to walk about 6 to 8 tiles to and from bus stops. Bus stops need to be placed near Residential, Commercial, and Industrial zones so that Sims can get to and from where they need to go. Strategically placing your bus stops in the direction that Sims want to travel also helps. ---Elevated Rail--- It works exactly like a normal rail only it is easier to place around your downtown areas due to its elevation. Note: The EL rail CAN NOT be used for moving freight. It's made for passengers only! ---Elevated Rail Station--- Passengers can only board/exit at stations. ---Subway--- Subways use the same role as EL and passenger rail. The only difference is that it's built underground. There for they are the ultimate mass transit toll. Note: Subway lines CAN make a 90 degree turn. Use this flexibility for your sake. ---Subway Station--- Subway lines can only be boarded/exited at stations. ---Public Parking Garage--- It improves the effectiveness of adjacent transit stops in residential areas. ---Toll Both--- These structures can be used to add a few simoleans to your coffers. However, be warned that they have a tendency to create traffic snarls. Airports These are primarily demand cap busters. They are mainly used for Commercial zones but can bring more Sims in to your city. After placement it will improve the demand, growth and economy of that city. They can also be upgraded. When your usage is close to the maximum, you will be offered an upgrade. An upgraded airport still takes the same amount of space. So just place one and see your cities skyline grow. ---Landing Strip--- Opens your city up to new economic opportunities. ---Municipal Airport--- Can entice more business to your city. ---International Airport--- Can bring thousands of business travelers and tourists to your city. Water Transportation Transportation tools used on water. ---Passenger Ferry Terminal--- Carries passengers across water for less cost then building a bridge. Having a bus or subway stop nearby can help with traffic. ---Car & Passenger Ferry Terminal--- Carries passengers and cars across water for less cost then building a bridge. Again, a nearby bus or subway stop is a good idea. ---Seaport--- These are demand cap busters. They speeds raw materials to factories and finished goods to market. They must be connected directly to industrial areas.I hope you had fun reading it, and hopefully even learned something new... I want to thank all my friends in the SHS team for their great support.. thanks! If you need any farther help or just feel like talking about the guide, you can contact me by PM Cheers!!!
  3. I would like to introduce you to a great man that owns one of ST's several landmarks, "The Moose Factory!" Hello N_O_Body. It's a pleasure to have you here, I'll pay for the drinks! Anyway, let's start Tell us what the "Moose Factory" actually is? The Moose Factory is actually an extended chat in the guise of a virtual bar and grill. It is a place where the elite meet to virtually eat, drink, and make Mary. Where did you get the Idea for the Moose Factory? Actually, I started this on the simcity.com thread, but the site became moribund, so I moved it here. The idea came from my well-fertilized imagination. Are you surprised by the success of your establishment? In your opinion, what is the main reason behind this? People like to chat in an off-line situation. We all just pass the bovine bucolic product about and jive with each other. No pressure, just chat. Sensitive topics are sometimes discussed at the Moose Factory. Which one do you think is the touchiest one? The one that caused the strongest reaction amongst your guests. The one that makes you react promptly. Well, politics is always good, but we try to keep it civilized. Kidding the little wiggler zmveliger about Quebec separation is interesting. He is very bright and patient. Who are your favorite visitors? In this kind of business, you can't play favourites. People come and go. I understand that the Moose Factory autosystem is kind of a robot. Is that right? And is it related to R2D2?[] The autosystem is now in its fourth generation. It was developed from the first robotic system created by The Terminator when he quit as waiter without notice. We had to cope. The present system used Quantum Transposition (QT) to pass things around, and is telepathic, so that ordering can be automatic by thinking about what you would like. It is programmed to keep minors away from things they shouldn't have. Trixies!!! The main reason for this Interview. You got one, for the Most Engaging Off-Topic What did you feel, were you surprised? Yes. I wasn't doing anything to try and merit one. Just make the board a little more fun. How about a few words to the member(s) that voted for you. First we need to thank our Producer dirk for running a superb board. And I thank the voters for electing me to this prestigious award. A total surprise. Enough about that. Let's talk about you. Why N_O_Body; as a screen name? Does it have a story behind it? Actually, it is my original board name from simcity.com. Just how anonymous would you like to get? I tend of think of Odysseus and the Cyclops as being responsible, so I guess I owe one to Homer, the great Achaean poet. Tell us a bit about yourself... region... profession... hobbies... etc I live in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. I am a retired IT professional and professor of IT. Hobbies consist of the Factory, computer games, some recreational programming, fooling with graphics, reading, and just being generally retired. Tell us about your family, are you married? Do you have any children? I am married to "The Northern Witch" which is my wife's board name where she is on various boards. She is a supermod on one board dedicated to software. I have two kids, both grown up and away. My daughter lives in Toronto and my son in London, Ontario. Will the BATer in you make a "come back" one day? Actually, since the crummy reception I got on the STEX the last time, I am keeping my BAT efforts to myself. Unless I do a particularly interesting thing, it will be that way. You're offering an amazing selection of drinks; which one is your favorite? I am diabetic, so I don't drink. However, I do like a good glass of champagne. We had a few bottles of Veuve Cliquot at my wedding, and it has remained a consistent favourite. We try to supply whatever people want to guzzle. If you had to serve a meal to a very well know personality, who would it be and what would you serve him/her? The best meal I know is Chateaubriand Bouquetiere with appetizer of Moules Mariniere. Strawberries Romanoff for dessert followed by a nice tray of soft ripened cheeses with a good old Madeira. The beef should be served sangant with sauce Bordelaise. Thank you N_O_Body. It was a real pleasure. But now, alas, the interview is over; but, is there anything that you wish to add? Well, it has been a pleasure talking to you at KSIM, and I wish you well in your endeavors. Bon appetit. Thanks to Compromise, Mikeaut1, Eastwinn, and Zmveliger for helping put together ths article!
