  1. Farms, Neighborhoods, and In-Betweens

I think it was trying to be funny. I laughed, but only after I realized that the game was not corrupt.
  2. Farms, Neighborhoods, and In-Betweens

Welcome back to the region of Morcup. Better name still pending. There is still over a billion dollars left in the budget and it's 1952, so we might as well spend the money before inflation makes it worth less. Here is the proposed bridge across a narrow portion of Clipper Lake. Finally a supermarket in the area. There is still only one school in all of the region. Most people work in agriculture. The layout of the region is starting to take shape.
  3. Farms, Neighborhoods, and In-Betweens

That was an oops. The game encountered some sort of error when I was zoomed out trying to take that screenshot.
  4. Expansion, Transportation, and Education

At 50,000 people, a mansion was built for the mayor. It has plenty of open space around it... for now. A new train line opened, but with service once an hour, it is not expected to be of use to many people at this time. Around this time, it was decided that McLovin should receive the region's second school. Unfortunately, the years of neglecting education meant that there were no teachers to work at the school. A technical college was built, but it is unstaffed as well.
  5. Satellite Towns and Connections

Here is what has happened today... I mean, in 1952. The Bread Lake area has developed some. The town of Timber Bay was founded nearby the Old Trussty railroad bridge. I ran out of demand for agriculture, so I developed the transportation networks enough to build a neighborhood near the future downtown area. Here's a map view of this ridiculous interchange. The railroad and highway over Dandle Pass was recently completed. Space for suburbs and satellite towns. A suburb is born
  6. A New Region

I learned a lot from Cityville. So much so that I wanted to start a new city/region. Cityville was 100x100 chunks, this new region is 125x125. I don't have a name for the region yet, so I'm just calling it Morcup. I'm planning on having several cities spread across the map. I changed the starting funds to $2 billion and used accelerated start (all road and rail types unlocked from the start). This is the first area I developed- called Buttercup Junction. It is a farming town on the edge of the map. I've had difficulty keeping demand for farms once the city gets above 100k people and higher education levels, so this time around I will be making the farming communities early on, then build downtown. A wintry afternoon at the edge of the world. More to come later today.
  7. Summer of 77- The Stadium

At 500,000 people, it was decided that a stadium should be built. A little bit of eminent domain was required. The location couldn't get much better. The stadium brought crime. Moving on, more roads were built through the plains outside the city. Further development is stalled until the area is named. The Blue Train Line was extended to the edge of the world recently, but the trains still run mostly empty. What a view. Sprawl Farmville is one of the region's two farming centers. It has not expanded in many years, but has managed to escape being swallowed up by the city.... so far.
  8. Summer of 71

Let's have a look at the city from the air.
  9. Haha, well said. I suppose the whole idea of gaming is sci fi. So the source code is, in one sense of reality, a fictional dream of ours within the fictional world we know as SC4.
  10. Indeed I did. Silly me. I apologize. , specifically near the end where a nonny moose mentioned that SC4 was written to use one CPU core, says that setting it to use a higher CPU count will first off, probably not do anything, and second, to my understanding even if can make the game utilize more than one core it will, definitely not improve performance.. Guess I just learned something. Sorry I'm so behind the times on this. So, I suppose that's that. And if we have anything further to say on this matter, we probably ought to take it to a different thread or a PM, as I fear we've veered rather far off topic.
  11. I can't remember where I first read about it, but here's a link to a tutorial for it on SC4: CPU here is a little more reading on that subject . I suppose it's not a mod in the traditional sense of being loaded from the plugins folder, but it does modify some launch parameters. If I understand it correctly, raising the CPU count can increase performance, while lowering it can reduce CTDs. And that's about the extent of my knowledge of that mod. I think there is some further info on a thread in SC4D, which also touches on a somewhat related mod that patches the exe file (not sure if that's legal, and I can't speak for its efficacy, as I have not tried it) to allow the game to use more than its original limit of 2gb if I remember correctly. Anyway, an interwebs search for 'SC4 4gb patch' and 'SC4 launch parameters' should lead you to enough information about these useful things.
  12. Sorry I'm late everyone, there are so many other fine social establishments out there, I never thought of looking for one inside the internet. I don't know much about the menu, but I would like to know two things. Are the items on the menu regulated by any particular country's/locality's law, or are the only laws and limits to the menu based upon the limits of our imagination? Or perhaps Canada is the regulatory authority? If so, I believe that one of the things I seek to order will be permissible. In the mean time, I would also like to know if there are food items on the menu. Particularly, I've got a tremendous craving to get ahold of some food for thought. I've got plenty of thoughts right now, but I need more food to adequately sustain my thoughts.
  13. Oh yes isn't that the truth about saving. And aren't we lucky that there are even mods out there to help remind our imperfect brains of when it is time to save. And as for recompiling in 64-bit, that would be superb. I only know the tip of the ice berg on understanding how that would improve the game. But at least we've got the multi processor mod as a partial workaround. Perhaps there is a small up side to not having the source code- It's forced the community to access the most of their creative side. We probably would be a little more lazy, overwhelmed, and complacent if the whole shebang were to just be laid at our feet.
  14. Sad. Well thanks for the information. I suppose we ought to be grateful for what we have in this game and the good that's already been done with it.
  15. Hmm. That's not exactly what I had in mind, but I think it might still be a good thing to pursue. Ideally, I would like what's EAs (the game itself) to stay theirs, and what is the community's (mods and custom content) to stay ours. So, maybe modders could essentially be doing free work for EA in terms of game improvement, but I think it would be a little too much to ask of our modders to allow EA to be able to charge existing owners of the game for access to the work of the modders (e.g. the expansion pack you mention). Still, that option may be worth looking into.
  16. So I know this topic hasn't been responded to in a while, but I think what I have to add may be a new and interesting position that we could present to EA in order show them how releasing the source code could be beneficial for the company as well as the players. If they were to release the source code for modding purposes, but keep the terms of use so that distribution of it was still prohibited (therefore stating that new users must still buy the game), modders would be given a multitude of new opportunities to enhance the game, potentially even increasing the customer base for the game (Better game for users, and more profit for EA... win win). Now obviously this move would make it easier for the game to be distributed and played without purchasing from EA, but that is possible anyway, and still illegal. So, releasing the source code itself would likely have a negligible impact on the amount of piracy of this game. If taken properly by our gaming community as a gesture of goodwill (and not abused), this action could prove to be a very good and low risk experiment in EA's business model (they've already made most of their money on this game in the current level of development they are releasing it), and EA stands to gain potentially more profits through an increase in customer base (due to continual enhancement of the game by the modding community). Additionally, EA could gain a positive reputation by showing it's willingness to work with the game's modder and player community. Perhaps I am off base in my thoughts. What does the rest of community think of this proposal? Is it worth sending to EA?
  17. Hagestede Apartments set

A great model, but as some others have mentioned, this building has been popping up occasionally in my low density zones.
  18. Hagestede Apartments set

Great building. I've downloaded and used in my cities, but I've seen this building grow in some of my light density zones. Is the building supposed to grow on light density?
  19. XDesign MetTech HQ by Tanatos

    interesting design
  20. Weather Mod

seeing a ton of views and almost no comments is pretty frustrating. just remember that a lot of people may have not really have anything worth saying, it's already been said, or they're too lazy to say it. your work in modding is appreciated by a lot of people, even if not many people say it.
  21. American Four Square

nice detail. with stuff like this i might actually need to zoom in on my neighborhoods.
  22. Drapers Gardens

beautiful looking building. i dont use night mode too much either, but if i did, i'd be okay with no nightlighting, becuase not all buildings are lit at night.
