  1. Show us your Railroads!

Some trains around the new area I've been working on. Most of the eastern-most regional rail lines will converge here to get set to go under the river. ALSO: raise your hand if you like to watch the trains go into the tunnel and then wait for them to come out the other side

I stayed with the same area of tunnel portals on the east side of the river today so I coould work through more concepts of 'old concrete' textures. Maybe made some progress. I do now think that weeds and errant gum trees do go better with old concrete rather than new...
  3. Show us What you're Working On

Everything is incomplete - two locomotive paint jobs not finished, the concrete wall is sized wrong, the wall lot on the upper portal is too short. Lots of work to do and old concrete is soooooooo very difficult to get just right . But still. I like it anyway...

I experimented today with lightening up the very dark one and darkening the light one just to see if there was a middle ground but in the end I agree the original dark one is the best. But now I need to figure out new textures for above the tunnel, the new-build modern concrete I have been using almost ruins the look. I does look awesome with lots of trains plying the tracks though I think

Officially my very favorite newest most favorite wall texture. And newest. And very favorite. But then the hard decision comes. Whether to use the light colored or dark colored top edge to finish it off.

I was messing around with making the best HRW tunnel I could make using monorail. Then I was looking at old photos from my 2018 city and I had an idea to dig out the old Bullet Train mod and after a couple of hours of trying things out I figured out how to make a fully functioning AND aesthetically pleasing HRW tunnel. (Actually I am not sure it's HRW, possibly just HSR trains can pass through, have to test it out more). I was kind of amazed that this worked so well and although not necessarily workable for tight-space tunnels as it takes a bit of space to integrate L0 trackage, it would work if you had to tunnel under a mountain or half of Manhattan and the east river... And I also had not seen this particular HSR train in quite a while, I forgot how nice it was. The old picture that gave me the idea to try this out. I had always wanted to see a bullet train come screaming out of this tunnel but it never happened. I might get there now though.

Sometimes you just drop a building in a spot never intending to leave it. But then you just like it. McDonald's just fits everywhere.

I finished this park that I had started quite a while ago. I'm finding that parks are one of the things that help you preserve a view corridor in a dense city to an area you particularly want to be able to see.

Getting this cool, curved underbridging to work is the first step in what is going to be a great riverwalk.

The new mod that allows you to place props directly on the network is just amazing. Satisfaction increaser. Fun amplifier. Force multiplier. I had been wanting to get the GLR crossing of passenger rail more aesthetically pleasing and in line with my other rails. I know at this time there is no way to make the EL cross true hybrid railway tracks but in this case these tracks carry only passenger rail although I try to create as close to a 100% hybrid network as is possible. Once I hunted down the offending track textures and got those in line, I was still left with something less than pleasing. Using the prop placement mod though, I was able to add the catenary wires as eye candy along with a looks-like-it-belongs-there center support - the one from the El-Rail over road plugin. What a difference this makes. The last part of this project is to try to figure out if it's possible to get rid of the mis-matched support on the right or at least change it use a different, more aesthetically matched prop. BTW, it is so good to have things up and running, I know multiple people had to work hard to make this happen and I don't know exactly who to name but definitely my thanks. I found that without the ability to show and talk about what I am working on and see what amazing things everyone else is creating and building, the fun of this is just a little diminished. Reminds us to take nothing for granted.

I used to have a tendency to over-light but while testing the night lighting on the tunnel lots I realized that I still have to fix the night-lighting on my remade commuter rail cars lol.

The tunnel portals on the west side of the river are slowly turning into an area of rebuilt infrastructure along with a new rail control and service base. Still a thousand details to fix though. But I like seeing the trains pass through these tight spaces while on their way to wherever.

Likely the HVAC equipment on a modern building is lined up in a row to maximize pipe and hose efficiency and placed on short racs to allow air circulation underneath. I was looking down on the roof of a pretty new building today and there were two rows of about 30 units each exactly like that. This building is looking great though!

Inside the Network Addon Mod folder in Plugins, inside 4. Automata Controller, in the exemplar, there is a property 0x8A441C9C where you specify the min and max for passenger trains - this also appears to control HSR trains and El-Rail/GLR as well. 0xEA441C97 is the property that controls min and max for freight trains.

I finished the north wall of the tunnel portals on the west side of the river tonight. I have been trying to add more detail into the lot textures lately but it is hard to get the scale right, the drainage grates and the manhole covers should be much smaller but if you get them too small they just look like brown blobs. I do really like how the newest concrete wall came out though. I really like trying to get the small details that can really make something look more complete. Here, one of the things is the way you can use a 32m piece of fencing to extend out over the avenue where it crosses the tracks - a little bit of extra safety. I thought of using a solid barrier wall but you know, people want to see those trains comin' by...

Nice long platforms! I got tired of dinky 3 car trains so I set my min on passenger trains to 8 and allow them to go up to 12 cars.
  17. Show us your Railroads!

I decided to move over across the river and work on the tunnel portal area there. These will be busy tracks as every train from cities in the western half of the region will funnel into these two tunnels (the other tunnel is just out of the shots) to get into the main city as well as the towns in the eastern part of the region.

I think the glass is very good and filled with interest. Looking at the flat side of the building, whether you're looking into an atrium section of the building or whether this is a reflection from outdoors, is full of design interest and very realistic. The other side of the building, where the exterior facade is running partially at an angle makes sense too - with the angle, the reflections are automatically going to be muddled. I live where we have many, many glass buildings and I'm constantly marveling at how different they look depending on the direction you are viewing it from and the way the sun (or clouds) reflect at different times of the day and in different conditions. I think it looks really good overall, I really like the entry areas on both sides and I think it has managed to create a really interesting depth to the facade walls as well.

Trees are imperfect by nature. To the contrary, your work never seems imperfect!

Really nice work, I love the selection of small buildings to serve as the marina offices and workshops in that last pic!
  21. Show us your Railroads!

Getting a silver paint job seems to be very difficult - it either comes out too white or too blah grey. This is probably the 20th derivation of my tries for a silver train but I think this will be it now...
  22. Show us your Railroads!

What a stunning scene! Leave it to some cows though to be so uninterested in that fantastic train going by...

I will prepare a little file package and send it to you. And once you have the new livery file made, I just use photoshop and irfanview for that, it's easy to change out files with reader.

Thanks for the nice words! You're exactly right that the upper track is all one transit enabled lot with the slope value set to keep it completely upright, I call these lots 'rail walls' in my own nomenclature. You have to build them with length to go just past the tunnel and reach the original height at the top of the ramped trackage at the other end. They work great though and allow me to build tracks so much more prototypically. And the wall concrete is my own texture. I think the single decker/double decker pic you're referring to above is the one where the double, being led by a cab car, is merging onto the straight track and the single is behind it? The single is actually an HSR train, a repainted version of @dragonsteincole great Class 800. The pic directly above where the TGV is dropping into the ramp and tunnel and the double decker commuter train is on the upper track, that TGV is a freight train. Happy to send you one of my rail wall lots if you're interested

These are fantastic. I'm going to end up using eleven trillion billion hundred thousand of these things on my lots
