Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
dsposter replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
I know it was originally intended for rural highway, but due to the great flexibility in placement and connections to roads the current rhw allows, converting it for construction of custom-sized highways is a simple matter of repainting the roads. If I knew how to modd it I would have already done it myself and offered it around. But since I don't, and from what I read modding is a very complicated business, I thought I'd offer up the idea. Just in case any modders out there liked the idea and wanted to do it. I've always thought it was a darn shame sim city 4 only came with 3-lane highways, and then I saw this project and saw the potential for custom-size highways with it. K thats all im rambling- 3,919 Replies

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

First, RURAL means not in the city. As in you won't need a lot of capacity.quote>Uh, who cares what it's called. It was designed to have the same capacity as the standard highway. Also, with the NAM, you can just choose a higher capacity modd.quote>Sure, but this isn't physically realistic nor does it look at all realistic for a small highway to be able to handle all that traffic. And the only time I have EVER had a highway at more than a light yellow was when an entire lage city of residential had only one highway connection to the city with jobs.quote>It's quite easy to fill highways to capacity or beyond if you know how to design them well, even with several other forms of transportation available concurrently.- 3,919 Replies

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

Are you serious? Almost all of my highway networks are filled to capacity or over capacity. Many sections that are extremely over capacity would greatly benefit.- 3,919 Replies

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

I feel like the potential of the RHW tool is being seriously inhibited by something obvious: even though you can lay each side of the highway individually, you can't line up two stretches of RHW side by side to make a larger highway! (i.e. an 8-lane highway composed of four dragged strips of RHW). Well I mean technically you can...but the way the textures are currently designed it doesn't look anything like one large highway if you do. What you end up with is four lanes of highway on each side that are obviously made of two separate two-lane roads (due to the road's shoulders and painted lines). I'd like to see some variations of the current RHW with different painted lines and shoulder placements so that we can lay two strips of one-way RHW side-by-side and have them appear to be one road. After all, nearly every highway serving large urban populations spawns 8, 10, and even 12 lanes. The RHW, due to its huge placement flexibility, could make constructing these superhighways possible. All we need to do is change the look of the road so they can be convincingly laid side-by-side in one-direction. If I had the slightest idea how to change the textures, because in my mind it's as simple as changing them in MS Paint, I would have. Does anyone else agree this is severely needed and would make RHW infinitely more awesome? Does anyone want to start doing this? heh Thanks.- 3,919 Replies
