SimCity 4 runs slow on big cities
KurtangleTN replied to cinbinsportsfan's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I realize this is about a year old now, but I have the same issue in both my large tile cities. Calendar just moves so slow, I have the NAM installed and I tried the large city traffic simulator and it didn't help. Anyone have any advice? -

Hey guys I remember a huge statue I got here years back, it was really big, gold, and seemed to be dictatorish. Does anyone remember this and know where I can download it? -

Yeah they all light up, just seems to be mine. Other BATs I have work great. -

Hate to bug you guys again but I decided a nice touch would be to add some nighting effects on the model, and so far so good, but when I export it to SC4 and place it in my city, it doesn't light up. I have power to it, and I export it and place it as a building (not sure if this matters) am I missing a setting in the Bat, Plugin manager or Lot Editor? -

I don't think so. I personally just can't see EA going back to games like SC. There is just too much against it. I'm sure development time is longer than an average game, especially cash ins like SCS. Another question is where do they bring the series. The real beauty of Sim City is all the options, and in a way the complexity. But I certainly don't want that complex back engine with caps and crap back. The only real way to please most hard core fans is to add more transportation options, building types, etc, but this all adds complexity, something the "core" gamer doesn't want in their games. It's why games like Wii Sports have been popular, all you need to know how to do is point and swing. An interesting thing that EA has done to attempt to appeal to both sides is create a mode for "Family" that strips out parts of the game and simplifies things. They could do this with Sim City, strip out a lot of features and bring the gameplay down to a level of simplicity that say sim city 2000 had, and allow plopping from the start. Meanwhile we still have our beloved game, it would take a bit of work, so that might be unrealistic for EA. Another major factor is now PC gaming is becoming more and more of a niche market as consoles are now allowing the kind of advantages PC's have held exclusive for years. I think the PS3 (and maybe the 360, don't think so though?) can use a mouse and keyboard set for a lot of games, you can have custom content, demos, online play, etc. Maybe Sim City could make the transition to the PS3/360 (or next gen versions) but I'm not sure it will be our same game. -

Originally posted by: Jasoncw It looks like you made it as a prop in the plugin manager. By default, they don't show at the farther zooms, because props were intended to be things like planters and benches. To change this, open the prop in the plugin manager, and there should be a property somewhere (you might need to look through the different tabs) about displaying at certain zoom levels.quote> Ah you are correct! Thanks a ton! I forgot all about that. -

Thanks for the reply Jason, it didn't seem to work. Just to give a visual with my description I uploaded a picture of it. -

I have a quick problem, I found this pretty awesome .3ds file that I imported into GMAX, put on a nice park, and everything looks great, but the problem is that it's not visible from the first level zoom (furthest out) It's fine on the 2nd level, but as soon as you go to the furthest out it just disappears. Any reason? -
Ah right thanks, that defiantly makes sense then, do you know any that fit them both well?

I've known about the BSC SFBT GLR Tram Mod which creates trams, but there are a couple in that mod package aren't in this, also that one tends to cause me to crash (evne though I know the reason it's often hard to avoid touching them when you have a lot!) I did download that mod at sc4devotion and it appears not to include any of the stuff featured in that readme I found.

Couple of questions With the GLR we have stations that produce trams (more appropriate for the tracks) will we see stations that produce high speed trains? I realize I can mod the monorail trains but that makes monorail trains seem out of place. Thanks!

Hey, not to hijack but this may actually help him as well. I was searching around google and ended up fidning this interesting page http://www.eclatami.org/simcity/tram_mod/readme_english.htm Where can I find this mod? Also off topic but what is that high speed rail train in UDI panel? Thanks!
