Berlin - Past, present and future
Odd from Sweden replied to Erdmoebel's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
The facade looks really good, like those buildings that were cheaply fixed up after the war. But those buildings do never have dormers, when they were built only five res/com floors was allowed and the attics were only for storage - with only very few and small windows. Dormers are only added on lately renovated buildings. I would suggest more and smaller chimneys as well for better realism. Keep up the good work! -

It is hard to get the stupid sims to build what you want ! Well, there is a way to help them to understand what the mayor wants. When I zone, I zone 1x1, 1x2 or 2x2 sones with gaps inbetween. Then the sims build their houses, and they cannot build larger than 2x2 of course. This forces them to build small and compact, no larger lots with parking spaces and such. When You have nice w2w buildings (maybe after some helpful demolishing), landmark the buildings and fill the gaps with new zones and let more w2w houses develop. -

I just found the right answer to a 1/2-year old or so question... Erdmoebel You once asked about the original building for Your corner lot with that grand portico and two towers? I then suggested that it was a hotel at Potsdamer Platz, hmm actually i thougt it was not such a great model, because it differed to some extent from the original... well now I have reconcidered it after finding a better match in the real world. It was called the Kaiser-Gallerie and was situated at Unter den Linden/ Friedrichstrasse/ Behrenstrasse (for those of You who do not know Berlin, it is THE location for exclusive shopping). This building had not a courtyard, but a great shopping galleria a little like this famous one in Milano... You will find lots of pics in www.bildindex.de -> Profanbau / Gesch -

And btw. Erdmoebel, I think You could use those red textures of mine in the textures thread for that little nice neo-gothic/venezian office building. -

Making the dome would not be that tricky I guess. I would have done like this: Make a plain cylinder segment - 1/20th of a whole or whatever the exact numbers of repetitions of this golden pattern is. Decorate the rounded surface with one repetition of the pattern. Make a block of the whole thing. Use polar array to make 19 more of those - now you have a nicely decorated cylinder. Make a new giant block of those 20 blocks you already got. Now just use some taper modifiers to make a nice onion-like shape out of the cylinder. YOU ARE DONE :-) Just keep in mind to make the cylinder (heighthwise) and all the parts of the decoration polygon-rich enough to be tapered nicely! -

Hello Erdmoebel! Long time no see! I really like the new buildings! Sorry I did not find the street numbers, i checked my resources. Maybe You can find them in this online archive with old photos someone mentioned mentioned back when we takled about the Reichsdagskuppel? Really nice model and the street facades look really realistic. But maybe the flag white on top of the seitenfl -
