  1. Hello and welcome to my very first CJ, named “The different looks of NYC”! Some of you might think, oh no, another CJ of New York- you are probably right, BUT: as we truly have seen many CJ’s focusing on New York City, mainly on Manhattan andthe skyscraper districts that are already well known, I would like to show you different areas of the NYC Metropolitan area, as indicated in the title. As the map- thanks to beskhu3epnm- measures 28x40 km, there is plenty of room to be filled and shown. Several areas of the entire map are already built- mainly with roads, rail and highways that are at 98 percent accurate, so no stupid road- grid for the entire map which runs from North to South! As we speak about roads, I got a new way of building straight roads at various angles which I will do a tutorial on later in this CJ. When it comes to the buildings themselves, I would like to let you know that the majority of these are in the right places. So row homes face the “right” side of a block as they do in real. Schools, churches, etc. are in the right places, not to mention important sights in different neighbourhoods. However, it could be that I forget something as I am not native. So, please let me know, your ideas are very much appreciated! Before we get started, I’d like to thank all the BATters, LOTters and MODders- forgive me if I don’t name you personally- for their great work, contributions and additions to the original game- without you a re- creation of a real city wouldn’t have ever been possible! Moreover I’d like to thank all the members that have been doing CJ’s for their inspiration, as there are many amazing and breathtaking contributions on this section of the forum! Please continue to impress and surprise us! A special thanks goes to E. Hanson for his unique and truly time- consuming work on his great NYC blog and CJ- thanks for inspiring me! This CJ is meant to be a long- lasting project- your comments, posts, ideas and criticisms are very welcome! Alright, so here we go!!! A region shot to show you where we start from: The same perspective, this time showing the transportation networks: Industrial wasteland next to the peripheral ditch surrounding Newark Int’l Airport: Cargo, warehouses and lots of parking at one of the runways: Weequahic Park and lake and the golf- course to the left, the area between Dayton Street and Frellinghuysen Ave to the right: On- and off ramps between Irvine Turner Blvd and Elizabeth Ave: A warehouse next to the neighbourhood: More warehouses and industry on McClellan Street and an ‘I’m lovin’ it!' : The not yet completed Newark Int’l Airport: Last but not least: a late evening shot of the area: That’s it for today; hope you liked the start of my CJ!>>
  2. Yes, something completely new to the world of SC4 and Simtroplis: since there is a very popular and extremely well done other approach to the game in a fabulous, very well-worked out way, namley SimMars, I would like to add another perspective to the game itself, however with a very distinctive influence: Go Roman! The Roman City – urbs romana. This thread is meant to give the community / all city builders a completely new understanding of how to build a city: This thread focuses on all buildings from the Roman Empire, covering the era 200 years before and 150 after our current measuring of time in the Western world. All building-types will be built: this includes private houses and villas, shops, public baths, administrative buildings, mercantile buildings and temples. There will be a distinctive street / road system, hopefully being altered and modified by our traffic supremes here, to make it functional. Finally, this thread is also about recruiting: If you would like to participate to form a completely new and unique BAT Team, speak now Just send me a PM including Your personal thoughts about the project Which kind of building type you would like to do If you are interested in road work, therefore able to mod it And if you think to partly participate in the new project Would you like to texture? Would you like to render? As I have created this new thread I am the person who coordinates everything here; I am going to be both active and passive, meaning that I make models, especially of urban villas, on the one hand, on the other, I also will give you some advice and help concerning Roman architecture. Plus, I will be the threads’ ‘dad’. It is very vital that no one, including myself, rushes anything: the outcome, however, should be stuff deluxe More to come soon, thank you and take care, lucky7
  3. Schulmania

*TsTsTs* lol Bring it up! Otherwise the use of pumpkin-seed oil will be prohibited René
  4. Schulmania

Yeah, a winner!! Great use of the SG buildings, btw. Schulmania is taking on the trip through time... obviously. About time to think about the initial past, isn't it?
  5. Queensferry ---> WINNING

*Grease is all around me, da darada dada...'* So, BuggUla, having seen that I wonder if Rickey Martin will be up next... but, speaking of 'Schlager music' only presented in a different language: does Nana Mouskouri make you shiver? You, at least and finally? (She looked better when younger): We haven't known THAT side of BuggUla until now... well... And next? Linedancing buggs? Sombrero-wearing insects playing the mandolin next? Poisoning burritos and encheladas, sitting in the cuacamole dip then? Or just the Bohemian ones, camouflaged with a big hat and moustache sitting in all the nice Parisian, Italian and Austrian caffés? We do not want that! The pesky nights are already enough! Plus: being put i nthe microwave oven wouldn't harm you, right? We'll see... All the pest from the ones that DO NOT love you.
  6. Schulmania

@ Emperordaniel Well, you never know...
  7. Schulmania

Duchess 'Nica von Barksburg' dressed like a tourist to not attract too much attention. Her private ship, the 'TC LABRADOR' just ready to leave...

  10. Urbs Romana - The Roman City

REPLIES Harishna Thanks a lot! No, the fish bassins don't have the final texture, whereas the red walls are going to keep their rich red. Romans applied it to almost everything and it was very intense... hope you like the new update. Frex_Ceafus ... and here's more! Thank you. IDS2 Thank you very much. Yes, the fish... I think I am a bit maniac Tonyr Thanks, and I bet you'll also love the following... Seraf Thank you, glad you liked the update. Here's a new one! lo_bg Welcome to my project, glad you like it. Thanks a lot. Schulmanator lol ... soon... Thank you, Bruce. IL. Well, I want to upload everything together... Thank you. UPDATE Todays truly massive update is focusing on public buildings, i.e. forum puzzle pieces, temples and municipal buildings. Here we go, starting with the Temple of Apollo (finished) 3 municipal buildings (finished): from left to right: curia, tabularium, the place of the duumviri Temple of Jupiter (finished), dedicated to the 'trias' Jupiter, Juno and Minerva Basilica (needs to be scaled), for trials and business The small Temple of Vespasian, attached to one of the forum puzzle pieces (finished) The comitium for public elections (statues are missing, not scaled) The macellum, the market (in progress) The forum puzzle pieces (to be scaled): 1 and 2 stories high (ignore the mirrored structure in the first pic) And a section of 2 insulae, divided by a street (in progress) Good, the macellum needs to be finished, then working on 3 more forum buildings. These should finally offer a big variety to build a custom forum Stay tuned for more to come soon, lucky7
  11. Schulmania

  12. BIG, big, big update in 'Urbs Romana' in the BAT section: details gallore!

Frex_Ceafus lol me, too! Thanks! TekindusT Thank you very much. Yes, there will be double versions of most of the buildings. UPDATE: Finally... first, 2 pics of the progress on the 'Villa of Diomedes': Now, one of the newest projects: a villa containing fishbasins. ... and 2 close-ups: A villa rustica (farmhouse) still in progress: And a completely finished villa rustica with 3 tombs: close-ups: ... and the previewed building: Good, I hope you like the outcome so far, comments and suggestions are very welcome, take care everyone, lucky7
  14. Urbs Romana - The Roman City

Hi folks, big update tomorrow, just asking: a villa rustica (a farmhouse, but sophistically adapted to Roman standards) is the next part on my villa list consisting of 4 buildings. I do have something in mind, but would like to ask you if you might have any special wishes for this one? Let me know soon (I am planning something connected to wine, btw, but that's just me), replies and update tomorrow, take care everyone, lucky7
  15. Urbs Romana - The Roman City

REPLIES: Frex_Ceafus Glad you LOVE it Thank you. Schulmanator lol Bruce, these are going to make a nice surrounding for everything else Thank you. Harishna Here's more on this, thanks a lot! Sgt Pepper Brandon, here it is with more textures thank you. Tonyr Regained speech lol ? Thanks a lot, here's more. SimHoTToDDy Thanks a lot for your advice, I'll PM you on that... Seraf lol here we go with the rotundas. Peristyle? This is what I've come up with... Thank you very much. OK, more on the vast villa... I've been adding the majority of details and textures, but keep thinking what will happen if I make it as a prop and don't put ground textures in the BAT. My aim is that users have free hand to sculpt the adjacent areas within the villa (peristylia excluded) on their own. Will the villa be 'floating' without BATted ground textures (remember:prop)or will it be usuable that way? EXPERTS WELCOME to answer this question. Here it is: And an 'castellum acquae' (water reservoir) modelled after the original one in Pompeii; this is going to be used as the main building for the aforementioned villa 2 tiles away... : Well, tell me what you think, suggestions and comments are very welcome, take care everyone, lucky7
  16. New York City

Great that you're back, Elliot! Keep rockin' from the rockin' Apple, best, lucky7
  17. nybt-forum-threads Seraf's Atelier

Beautiful work, the textures give this certain decayed feeling... Take care and keep it up, lucky7
  18. Finally, I have dared to start work with GMAX and BAT... As for my current project, I decided to BAT the highrise towers in COOP City, Bronx, NYC- I could have started with one of the smaller houses, though. Thus, I have given an extra challenge to myself, being a newbie... lol However, this is what I am aiming for: And these are the BAT pics: Top View: Preview: A close-up in the Perspective: So, please tell me what you think, comments and suggestions are highly welcome, Take care everyone, lucky7
  19. My best villa so far- overlooking the sea from a cliff, truly Imperial! Only in 'Urbs Romana'...

    1. harishna

      harishna

      worth stopping by!

  20. Urbs Romana - The Roman City

REPLIES Harishna lol what if 1) I had 3dsMax or 2) this would be done in 3dsMax? Hope you like the almost finished villa and thank you. Schulmanator Bruce, thanks a lot. Ready for more? Seraf :) Thank you very much, I am really glad you like my thread. Yes, I seem to be obsessed with details, I guess Well, here's more... Frex_Ceafus Thank you. lol then you should adore the progress.. Tonyr Thanks a lot, the first uploads should be next week Amthaak Welcome here, very appreciated. The currently displayed villa should become a real gem, indeed. Thank you very much and enjoy. Abstynent Welcome, and glad you like it. Here's more progress and thank you very much. After excessive work on the new villa I've come up with this... Honestly, I like the outcome very, very much First, some details: Now, imagine how it would be to approach this semi-fictious villa on a boat from the sea... Finally, the previews; the grass textures need to be changed together with the retaining walls ones, though: Well, I hope you like the outcome so far, sugestions / comments are - as always - very welcome. Thank you and take care everyone, lucky7
  21. Urbs Romana - The Roman City

REPLIES Schulmanator lol yes, these would make a fine addition to Schulmania, once released Thank you very much. Harishna I wish I had I have reduced modelling times drastically, indeed, as there is much more outcome within 2 hours as before. Stay tuned and thank you. Evillions Defenitely! I plan to release the packs soon, preferably all on of them at once. Thanks and here's more. Sumwonyuno Thanks a lot, glad you like my work so far Harishna Modelling of the vines is actually very easy: switch to top view, select vertex in the settings, choose line with the mesh settings both activated. Choose both smooth for the line and then draw the tendril (0,01). Polyedit. Then, switch off the mesh settings, make three different leaves. Convert to editable spline, extrude each of them with 0,001. Arrange them along the tendril, rotate for a bit of variety; also change the scale. Now choose one leave and in the front view rotate it on the z-axis to finally get the desired 3d look. Proceed arranging the leaves along the tendril, and so on... Group the whole object and that's it. DO NOT FORGET to apply textures on the tendril and leaves before having a hundred leaves to texture I discovered this method myself, I am not sure if it is mentioned somewhere in the forums (I was too lazy to search for a method, honestly spoken ). Hope this helps Tonyr Thank you very much! Frex_Ceafus Thanks a lot, here's more Chptrk lol just a little more patience. Thank you. Sgt Pepper lol I don't know, Brandon Well, I am suprised myself about the improvement, ironically. Yes, the buildings are getting alive again :) Glad you like the textures, these have sometimes given me a very hard time... Thanks a lot and come back for more! Delecto Thank you. Yes, something completely different Schulmanator Bruce, if you already emit squeals what will happen when you see the new seaside villa finished? lol Thank you. Ok, I have started work on a new villa. This one is far bigger (6x11 tiles) than the above featured villa of Diomedes (5x7) and is supposed to stand either on a cliff and/ or directly on the beach. I've added the contour lines to the preview pic to give a better image: Tell me what you think, comments and suggestions are - as always- highly appreciated, take care everyone, lucky7
  22. Splendid Roman villa in 'urbs Romana' in the BAT section :)

  23. Urbs Romana - The Roman City

Hello again, here we go with a quick update on the villa seen in the last one. As I've mentioned in my last post the villa is modelled after the original one, therefore it is very accurate speaking of size and measuring. Nevertheless, a lot of details are based on my knowledge about Roman villae architecture as the majority of these have gone during the centuries- or, in this case, due to the eruption of Vesuvius 79 AD. However, enjoy, REPLIES TOMORROW and a new villa First, some details not clearly visible on the final BAT: Finally, the preview: Well, stay tuned for the replies- thank you very much, btw- and the layout for the next villa which 'touches the sea' . Thank you and take care everyone, lucky7
