Gaming has become a real industry working on RoI (return on investment), that's what has happened to gaming. For many studios, maybe even for the most studios, it has become a matter of satisfying investors rather than the customers. Fair enough, producing games is a multi-million dollar process only few can handle themselves financially and thanks to the "virtual" good (aka it's not a physical item you buy like a vehicle is or a refrigerator) and high-speed internet, it's oh so easy to throw out an unfinished, buggy product and repair it afterwards to meet investment schedules rather than producing quality merchandise. But you're right, Ubi should really work on this title, nothing really happened except the seemingly mandatory day one patch...
  2. Sim City 2000

lol right I was talking about clicking on the power button and hold for a second or two ^^
  3. The Crew

Haven't played it the last few days cuz the little time I had playing I spend playing SWTOR as I'm working the night which really drains my batteries cuz I can't get a proper sleep at daytime, only some naps here and there. But Ubi screwed up again imho. There were days with little to no problems and days with still a lot of disconnects which, at least for me, were server-based.
  4. Show us your Before/After Shots!

I already posted them in a different topic but here are some region before/after pics of my current wip after applying a tree controller combination finding: before: after: except the valley in the lower left side which I intentionally changed to have less/no trees, all changes in the flora are a result of the combined tree controllers and I really love the result! I always felt like something's off in this region (next to the lack of city) but couldn't really put my finger on it. Now I know what it was, just the trees.
  5. GTA V

I guess once the pc release is out and they finally put the heists into gtao, also allowing for some bugfixing for both releases, they head straight into a fullblown payware dlc. Maybe (actually most likely) they're at it as we speak but it's still classified information. I definitely can't see them doing it w/o any dlc. Granted, R* is always up for a surprise but I doubt they chicken out on this opportunity both for monetary and creative reasons.
  6. GTA V

now look at that, the heists are at least officially announced, even tho a definite release date was not given:

Depends on what you want. Of course, if you want the extra content you can only buy with hard cash via season pass, you have to go down this lane. Apart from that and the special edition stuff you can't get access to unless you bought it somehow (basically what I did getting my mini, altho a 3rd party got my money for a single item, even if it was well below $5), I can't see anything in game that is not available for normal ingame currency so all you get from buying cc is access speed to things. I mean, the overall system is pretty much like in any mmo, there's a bunch of vendors that sell basic gear aka car parts and the cool stuff is earned from doing missions aka races. only big difference is you have to buy characters aka cars (altho there's mmorpgs that follow a similar strategy by forcing you to buy character slots). You "level" your car pretty good with these items so even with a starter-level vehicle, you can race through the entire game and be competitive with endgame content. I can't tell what lies ahead but it sure is possible for Ubi to do what some other mmos do and offer, next to making the game easier with real money, exclusive content available through real money (like the cartel market in swtor and similar systems)... if it's worth it is up to anyone's own decission but I don't think Ubi will go as far as to force you to do so because this backfires really fast. Same for making the game a subscriber title which only works if it's clear from the start that you have to or at least have the option to play on a subscription basis.
  8. The Crew

cool I always wondered where to get those past the initial 100k gift... but you can farm the game pretty easy for lots of bucks (yes that's what the ingame currency is called). digging through landmarks nets you 2k each and there's 242 landmarks iirc so you end up at 484k just for exploring the map a bit (which goes pretty fast with fast travelling actually)... some 15% or so into the game you unlock faction races which take between 10 minutes and one hour but also net quite some money if you win which is not really hard either... hardly any need for the crew coins imho
  9. The Crew

microtransactions? I think they only sell the season pass but maybe I missed some... only thing I spent real money on in this game - now and most likely forever unless a cool dlc comes out - was the mini cooper s which I bought from mmoga cuz it happens to be my real world car and since I got the regular game for free with my new gpu, I couldn't get this car in any other way than this... but yes you're sort of right, it's another ubisoft open world game. other in a sense tho as you are driving the world and the sheer amount of accessible area is at times overwhelming but the producer is very visible at each and every corner and even in between. no ubisoft open world game w/o discovering some sort of towers followed by an areal camera sweep; no matter if you climb churches or whatever in 3rd person historical places, or semi-defunct radio towers on 1st person tropic islands or drive up to hidden radiotelescope-towers in a somewhat customized car in a condensed usa.
  10. Sim City 2000

you have to click and hold the power button for a moment (like half a second) then the dropdown menu appears. at least for me on dosbox and win7
  11. The Crew

I don't think they screw up like this as the game is already available for X360 and afaik to the same extend as on current gen and pc. what they should really take care of is server/connection stability for uplay and the crew services. got disconnected so many times again yesterday and it never was on my end...
  12. So I don't know when it started as I spend most time in traffic view but I realized yesterday that I have serious scrolling issues in region view sattelite mode. I can't scroll consistently with mentionable speed, I have to spam-scroll in short steps to get back and forth along the region in due time. in traffic map mode tho, it scrolls just fine. Any ideas? win7 ultimate 64bit 8gb ddr 3 ram i7 3820 @ 4ghz gtx980 4gb with recent drivers sc4+rh disc version EDIT: forgot the command line parameters: -w -customresolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -eh:off -intro:off -cpucount:1 -d:directx
  13. On Windows at least, you hold down the right mouse button and drag to scroll the view. It's much faster and more precise than the arrow keys. I think that GMT's problem is a glitch specific to windowed mode, which SC4 was never really designed for. There's all kinds of drivers and settings you can play with that might affect this (mouse drivers, right mouse button settings) Does it affect all your regions? Does it affect a new region if you start one? Nice rig by the way. thanks scrolling with the arrow keys only works as long as I move the mouse around, but to the same issues as right-click dragging, works fine in traffic map mode but not in sattelite mode. and it affects all regions alike. no matter if old or new. also, no luck in a vanilla - aka no plugins - setup. not even with a fresh region. now here's to the fun part: I have clouds disabled cuz they're getting on my nerves very fast when planning regionwide. guess what? re-enabling them solved the problem. perfect scrolling even in sattelite view. I wanted to set the game to software mode which didn't work (maybe due to the command line parameters?). after the game restart, it was still in hardware mode but the clouds were active and it scrolled just fine. weird game...
  14. maybe I should be a bit more clear here, I'm talking about rightclick-scrolling. edge-scrolling never worked for me in windowed mode
  15. yep patched to the fullest and yes, I use a terrain mod (chihuahuan) and a water mod (brigantine) right-clicking doesn't work in region view, only in city view. here, there're no problems at all, only in region view with the sattelite mode selected. like I said, even the traffic map mode in region view scrolls just fine
  16. seriously tho, this trick makes my region look soooo much better than before, using ItaliaRiver and Lodgepole. Just retreeing the affected areas and then I'll make a before-after region view comparison EDIT: took a while but here it is, a before and after (in that order) pic of my region with just ItaliaRiver and then ItaliaRiver+Lodgepole. North and east areas show the most changes and frankly, it's a great change!
  17. 10-3... Birdgang ftw

  18. can't we finally get a sticky with all the sc4 vs hardware stuff?
  19. turjan and the avatar posted pretty much everything I wanted to post... damn... oh and almost forgot tekindust who posted the univerity of phoenix stadium, awesome thing by design and functionality
  20. be aware that the game does a very poor job at scaling with computing power and does support neither 64bit nor multicore processors. singlecore 32bit is what you get and now add a bit of poor coding into the simulation and you can be sure that you'll be happy with the city tile sizes as they are. fyi, these sizes are hardcoded into the game thus modding them would require reverse engineering which isn't quite legal unless EA releases the code or makes the game freeware and therefore it's against the ToS of this site and most other communities. so even if someone would have worked his/her ways beyond the predefined city tile sizes (which I doubt), you wouldn't get your hands at it...
  21. GTA V

I I had my very responsible 5 seconds for this year and ordered a gtx980... jeeeeeez now all thats left is to wait for the pc release EDIT: holy moly. already shipped and installed. did I say holy moly yet? this things a beast. whatch dogs, max details, 1920x1080... and the fans don't even go beyond idle rpm...
  22. frankly, I don't see no difference between the 2 water levels that hint at a water mod or setsealevel cheat. only lots of water pollution and differed "coastline" due to construction
  23. there should only be one "savegame" per city tile in you region's folder... simcity doesn't do the multiple save file thing like other games do.
  24. Concepts for Ave. Intersections

Use OWR instead of normal roads. Also, #2 lacks an essential part to be useful: lanes for continuing straight or turning left traffic you can only turn right.
