  1. SimCity 4 10th Anniversary Live Broadcast

Aye, I suppose your right. Fundamentally I love the direction they took Simcity as far as resources, trade, sharing and even the online element. It really remains to be seen if the community will be able or even allowed to mod Simcity 2013 into what it can be. The code can be easy to program but if they dont allow that platform.. the game would die. Personally though I like the game for it is and I can overlook what it is not. In its current state. However the only thing I can't and wont stand is the small map sizes... No.. just .. no
  2. SimCity 4 10th Anniversary Live Broadcast

Looking forward to the little show. Whatever it turns out to be. To be honest though most of the negative backlash Im seeing is just as bad, if a bit nicer actually, then what we saw with Sc4. It didn't have official mod use either early on. Whats really important is how the coding works. From what I saw, Simcity 2013 has a much easier engine to manipulate. Check out the Glass Engine videos from early on.
  3. Sim City (2013) outcry

On a simulation level though, the games agent system will allow for far more behavioral based modifications. If you watch the early videos about the Glass box engine, it is far easier to add a agent, a need and a source then earlier games. The map is the real issue. I imagine tile size and shape are editable in sandbox. Suffice it to say, theres really very little reason to be gloomy. If anything, I see a bright future for mod artists. Time will tell though. Personally I want to add monorails
  4. Sim City (2013) outcry

There is really nothing stopping Simcty from doing the same as its predecessor. The sandbox mode is a perfect platform to grow the game into whatever people want. Take a note from Minecrafts network mode. Sure its a bit messy but as long as players sharing the region share the same mod list, they can play together. With the glassbox engine, the possibilities are nearly endless. Meanwhile the online mode can develop into its own entity.
  5. I already bought the game. So yes. I guess after playing the Beta/Promotion, it just confirmed they took the game the direction Id always wanted it to go. Materials, trade, politics and fluid city design were always on the top of the list of features I wanted added to the game. As a avid Simcity 4 farmer, I was really disappointed by the lack of farming and food. I suspect that will be added later. Tying in water resources, soil fertility, weather, pollution and so many other elements to farming was probably a bear of a project and why it wasnt added at the start. Terraforming, transportation and so many other features I imagine will be added to Sandbox. I really suspect the sandbox version and the online version will be developed as side by side games. With modding and serious custom content on the sandbox. In anycase, cant wait to start playing.
  6. The funny thing is, I get into the tests just using my IGN code. Gota love being able to buy your way in.
  7. round 2 Simcity closed beta on February 16th

Definitely looking forward to round two. Apparently they took a lot of interest in what the last set of testers had to say and changed a number of things.
  8. SimCity Social

As someone who actually enjoys the tidbit style of facebook games , its a great game. The mechanics never force you to buy diamonds. With some decent friends you can grow quickly and however you want. So Id say its good at what it is. Thats the key thing we all have to remember, games make money if there good to the people who use them.
  9. SimCity Social App for Facebook

Actually I got diamonds at level 20. I also get diamonds at many of the major achievements.I currently have about 28 diamonds and Ive spent a lot of them too. Honestly its a very generous Facebook game. I guess it helps I play with 6 other people consistently though. Its not called Social for nothing. At the moment I have a city of 7009 and my acrology is getting close to being done. So far Id have to say the game did miss some opportunities but it claimed some too. City layout makes a difference. Coverage of police and fire do make a difference. In fact position makes a difference. All in all I give the game a 4 out of 5.
  10. Id suspect DVD and Download. Even if there are other forms of media, why would they offer them at stores if we can download and put it on other forms of media?
  11. Simcity Interview & Walkthrough

The fact they basically confirmed you can play alone in a region, invite people as you please or not pretty much is what I got.
  12. Anyone notice the launching arcology at the end of the trailer video? So many references to Simcity 2000 in the video.
  13. Sims are dayflies?

So basically at this point we have a proper flow of sims. Rather then a per consistent simulation. Hrmm, this doesn't bug me at all. Thank you greatly for the clarification Moose! What this means is, we will see the flow of people going to work and consistently the same amount going home. That is a immense achievement. This all ties in with my belief there is a exchange system in place. There almost has to be. A sim may not benefit from a school but his class does. Eventually a exchange of sims has to occur where a better opportunity arises and the class subtracts a sim from one class and adds it to the next or a new sim is tacked to the new class from immigration. Its so.. alive. I love it.
  14. Sims are dayflies?

Strictly speaking the sim lasts until it moves from the city or dies. Its activities reset each day. The idea that the agent resets each day is wrong. They actually remain the same sim.
  15. Well, its nice to see it clearly stated the game needs a online connection. I was expecting it to be honest. Considering the percentage of people with a constant at home connection and broadband at that, its a non-issue for most gamers. Also as everyone else stated, mod support is a non issue since no simcity to my recollection was released with immediate mod support.
  16. Will it be possible for your citizens to exchange classes if conditions exist within the city where a newjob opens up but there is limited immigration? By exchange I mean one citizen is erased and a new citizen takes its place with the new traits. If not, will that mean that all new citizens to your town are from out of town?
  17. Sprites

Thats true enough. Although a bit off topic hehe. Pebble bed reactors more or less can't melt down. Then you have thorium reactors which the material once solidified can be handled with minimal protection. The fact we still use the current reactor models is a bit of a joke. More of less the fault of the companies who manufacture them not wanting competition.
  18. Resources!

Well said, also in the case of this game, you have to import from out of the region. Thus a global economy. Which in the case of a single player game is simply a random or semi random set of variables. Tied in to the news ticker.
  19. SimCity: Wishlists

Well I just watched the Glass Box video again and they do indeed state that water tables are depleted from use and recharge with precipitation. They also are impacted by pollution which impacts the quality of the water and that impact cascades outword into the ecology. Nutrition in the soil depletes, people get sick and trees/grass die. Pretty much what I expected from the Agent system being employed.
  20. Landmarks

A variety of options would be best in my opinion. Being able to designate a building as Historic would be great. Building of monuments would serve a city well. Such as statues of the mayor or a industrial monument or free trade monument. Then you have landmarks which are structures designed to attract peoples attention such as the Seattle Space needle. Mind you whether they were intended as long term is fairly pointless to discuss. Thats just my opinion though. To be honest if they had rare buildings which popped up under certain circumstances which could be historically saved, that would be better.
  21. I envy you Nonny. That is so many generations before I started working with computers. Must be a interesting perspective going through all the developments. Personally I never got to far into programming. I more or less focused on case design and gaming pc designs as of late.
  22. Resources!

Your design document could be vastly useful as a guide for future mod artists. In the end if you aren't fully behind the development, planning and creation of a game, you still can be a benefit. Keep thinking up ideas.
  23. Actually the developers simply stated they don't want to tell you whats eco-logically right, educationally right, economically right or anything like that. They simply wish there to be a beefy enough simulation to allow actions to generate consequences naturally. That in and of itself gives every style of play a opportunity to excel. Trains, cars, electricity, people and every element of the game will be stronger because of the underlying code.
  24. I wonder how much demand on a global scale will play a factor. The whole economic cycle is fantastically simple really. Easy to understand for pretty much anyone. Yet it allows for cities to grow in unique ways.
  25. Natural Resources

Lets be honest, Simcity was never entirely realistic. Like people said, building powerlines and pipelines are usually the mayors say. The mayorship for simcity has always been about giving someone the tools to build a city from the ground up and see how all the bits and pieces work together and get those lightbulb moments of how real life things mite work or work better even. This current edition is just offering us more tools to see how a city works and lets use delve more deeply into the inner workings of cities and the management of resources. Sure a mayor mite not plop a mine down, but it gives the player the option of seeing the impact. Thats what simcity is all about. Hopefully always will be.
