This update will be about the "central interior" of San Pedro, known as the San Pedro valley. The main important sites here are the town of Alvares and the Alcazar of Calvario. First, let's go look at the Alcazar de Calvario. Now, let's head over to Alvares. I hope you enjoyed my update!

Hey everyone, I was in Israel for the past week or two, so I was unable to post any updates until earlier this week with the tram update. I was really inspired there with the beautiful scenery and the old city of Jerusalem... Anyways, here's an update about two important religious sites in San Pedro: the Monastery at Bizquena and the walled city of Santa Teresa. First, we'll visit Bizquena, which is located in the hills west of Carife. Next off is Santa Teresa. That's all, folks! I hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks guys, I forgot to mention not long ago I went on a trip to Jerusalem, with all of the old European churches which inspired me alot to update this CJ... and in the future I'll be making a North African style island based on the terrain in that area.

Let's take a tram tour of Carife. We'll start off at the Palacio Real station, located next to the Palacio Real (no, really.) I'll be your tour guide, and when we go by an important place, I'll explain it. Here's a map: First we'll go through the old quarter, named the "Barrio Gótico" or Gothic Quarter. Here is the Church of Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires, which was built in the late 1700s in a baroque style. The church's patron is "Our Lady of the Good Winds" which is the subject of a famous painting by the painter Rudolfo Durrivasques. The Church of the Assumption is also located in the old town. It is a different style from the Church of Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires, and it is the tallest spire in the Gothic Quarter, which can be seen from different parts of the city. The nearby station is the "Barrio Gótico Station" which is the main tram station in the old town. Now after going through the congested area around the Plaza Mayor (unfortunately I couldn't get any good angles of it, so I just skipped through) we're on the Avenida Muralla, named after the defensive walls that were built around the old city. Later on, the city walls were torn down and replaced with an avenue to connect the old town with the newer areas. This is widely considered the "main drag" of Carife, as it is in the center of the city and also the most crowded. In the upper-right corner is a little glimpse of the Plaza de Marineros, which is the location of the Monument of the Sailors. Nearby is the Plaza de Marineros station. This area has a lot of great nightlife, mostly consisting of Tapas bars and Nightclubs. Now we're going along the only beach in central Carife, which gets heavily crowded during Summer. The line ends here, so let's head the opposite way of the line from the Palacio Real, which goes by the Seaport and CBD. This is the Duruelo station, located next to the seaport. Carife, being a Mediterranean port, has a modestly-sized but busy port, which is often used for shipping around Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, and elsewhere. The Duruelo neighborhood is known as the birthplace of Eduardo Duruelo, a famous colonial Mesian governor who was liked greatly by the people of Mesias, and stood up to the mean old San Pedro empire. This next station, named "Avenida" is located in the "CBD" of Carife (which really only consists of 3 high-rise office building) and is usually busy with businessmen. The tall building on the left, the Torre Duruelo, is the tallest building in the city. Now we've passed the zoo, turned around, and are on Avenida Real, which is the avenue that intersects both the Avenida Muralla and Avenida Mayor near the Palacio Real. The Franciscian Hospice of St. Clare was a hospital run by Franciscian nuns who would care for very sick patients. Today it is a fully functioning hospital, but no longer run by the Franciscian nuns. And finally, here's a picture of the short little line that connects the tramline along the Avenida Muralla and the one that goes along the Avenida Mayor. This station is called "Plaza Mayor", even though it's a block away from the Plaza Mayor itself. I hope you enjoyed the tram tour of Carife!

Now that we have seen that area, let's move on over to the area near the Seaport. The neighborhood district of "Duruelo" is located near the Zoo and Botanical Gardens. This area is where most industrial structures in Carife are located, many of which are warehouses or factories. There are also alot of modern office buildings, including the city's two tallest skyscrapers, one of which belongs to the Miramundo Media Company. Miramundo owns several hundred television stations throughout San Pedro, Iberia, Mesias and Latin America. And finally, let's take a look at the airport: Cordobeza Int'l Airport is the island's sole airport, and serves many different flights. There has been an airport here since World War II... and it was built to be next to the Carifan suburb of Cordobeza. The current terminal was built in around 1974, but was later remodeled 22 years later along with a new wing for international airlines. In the past few decades the suburb of Cordobeza has become bustling, mostly with travelers and businessmen.

I got Tropico 3 today. It's a blast, even though I've spent the whole day only on Sandbox mode I tried remaking Santa Leon in Tropico 3, and I love the result. It doesn't look that different from Santa Leon in Sc4, but it's not really an exact replica. I tried to make a fortress-looking area around the old town... but it's kinda hard since there's no walls or anything to plop. However the scenic lookout buildings do look alot like colonial fort towers. Here's a view of the city from a hillside to the East of the city. You may notice in the background something the Sc4 version of Santa Leon DOESN'T have... a nuclear powerplant. However now that I think about it, that might be an excellent addition... A view of the stormy skies from the Colonial Quarter. I LOVE these colonial condominum buildings, they're so pretty. Here's some period photos taken by renowned German immigrant photographer, Cammara Lenz. The University of Santa Leon was officially founded in 1960. Some buildings along Duruelo Avenue.

First of all, happy 2010 everyone! It's weird now that we have a double-digit year instead of just "oh-nine" or something... it'll take some time to get used to again... but I'll have to since it will be the case for the next 1000 years Ahh, it's great to be in an entirely new year (and decade for that matter) in which we can all start fresh. Well, some of us at least.... probably not Tiger Woods or this politician who is in the news recently: Note the really cheezy tabloid headline Anyways, I have some more pictures of San Lorenzo, and then I think we'll take a look at some more counties in the island in the next update. Or SL again... who knows. This is the Bhutanese Temple located in Chinatown. Despite the name of the bourough, this neighborhood isn't limited to ethnic Chinese, but plenty of other people from different Asian countries like Bhutan. This really one of the only Buddhist shrines in the entire state as well. Here is an overview of the downtown area... Heading downtown at the intersection of Normandy and Templeton street, you can see there aren't very many people out driving on the streets, but there are alot of pedestrians out. In this same area, a tall skyscraper has been under construction for the past year, called 21 Harborfront Plaza. Although it is quite tall, it has not surpassed the current tallest building in the city. The City Hall is where the city's most important politicians visit to debate local politics and generally get nowhere as far as progress is concerned. It is located in front of the Globe Plaza, which is generally considered the center of San Lorenzo. Next to the City Hall is a fancy Times Square-style office building. Christmas lights are still up at night, even though it's been nearly a week since Christmas. This is because the workers who initially put up the lights are on strike due to cutbacks on their salary. And also because of general bitterness towards the buffoons in city hall. Here is another view of downtown, on the intersection of Templeton and Harborfront streets. This area is generally pretty crowded during rush hour and lunch, when businessmen and workers from the area are commuting or just going to a restaurant. There is a great amount of diversity in building styles in this area... from the Art Deco Police Station on Harborfront Street and the Art-Deco tower behind it, to the post-modern Office building on the left of the picture, and the tall Pelican Trust Tower in the upper right corner, which is currently the tallest building in the city. The Cathedral of St. Lawrence is also located in the Downtown area, near the Marriot and Marco Polo Luxury Condos. This gothic-style cathedral was built in the mid 1800s to accomodate the large community of European immigrants in the area, most of whom were Italian and Irish Catholics. Nowadays, the majority of its congregation consists of urbanites from the downtown area or surrounding buroughs. And also, last but not least, I have another radio station for you guys!
