How do I keep my power plants from running out of coal/oil?
Vaikin replied to MOWS 4 U's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Do you have import globally checked on the power plant? If you do, and your traffic is super bad, the trucks will just get held up in traffic for a longass time. -

Curious discovery. So it appears that lodging for tourists gives you no money, the only advantage in keeping them in your city is that they turn around and spend more the next day(which is clearly awesome). That being said, putting down the ploppables for lodging is expensive and/or small quantities. However, commercial buildings can be hotels and have HUGE storage capacity. screenshot -

Vaikin replied to DinosGG's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Kinda curious. Does the amount/type of tourists into a casino town depend on the population/status/class of the rest of the region? So if I have an empty region except for my casino city, will it still function or do I need other cities to actually get people in? -
What are TVs and Computers for?
Vaikin replied to warrior's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Dude, importing plastic costs 12k and alloys cost 48k(60k total), but importing processors only costs 67k. Just import processors and destroy all of your processor factories. Saves space and leaves more room for making tvs -

Maybe I don't see the point in building an expo centre or say, an army of windmills when 1 oil plant will suffice. People want to do things differently than you. -
There are city borders. Borders that you can't go past. So, if your city is full...no. You could upgrade some places to hi-res or rezone some places though. No bulldoze all function I'm afraid. The super heroes kinda blow.

ore mining Completely Lost On Ore/Mining/Trade
Vaikin replied to TheWebRecluse's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I still haven't really figured out all the stupid trucks. Ideally, I'd want the trade depots/ports to only do what they're told. I have 1 importing raw ore, 1 importing coal, 1 importing plastic. Then I have smelting factories and processor factories. I have a train freight depot set to export processors. But stupid global delivery trucks keep picking up crap from the train station...really annoying. -

Vaikin replied to TheWebRecluse's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
He also said he was making alloys, which are quite profitable. First, close the coal mines(you can just import it, way cheaper). 2nd, the train export depot extension is a total waste. The stupid trucks still export goods anyways so there is little to no point in using the train. Are you saying you're losing money hourly(that will happen regardless since specialties are expensive to run), but you should be making tons monthly. Also, make sure you don't export both metals and alloys(no point really). Oh, and trade depots. The global market trucks send a truck to take your stuff right? Well, they only take 1 material at a time. So if the depot is set to export 2 or 3 different things, it's hit and miss as to which ones get sold each time. Make more than 1 depot and set each one to sell a single item. Btw, If you want to make electronics, you can always make the alloys and import the plastics. -

The thread was about reviewers ignoring game aspects, perhaps not arguing for the sake of arguing? -

LOL, proof? Because a group that knows nothing about games called them that? They simply do not know of any other sites. Please post proof? No IGN is the place everyone whose interested in games goes to, thats makes it a casual site, no core gamer takes their reviews seriously, their reviews are bad and not in depth, maybe thats your think and you do not know any better. But no one who knows anything about games thinks IGN and gamepost are hardcore sites. They are the poster children for MAinstream gaming, which is big business. Ill be waiting for your link with proof which wont prove anything anyway, you believe everything you read or can you think for yourself? who cares what your or his definition of hard core is?... -
Discussion about City Tile Size
Vaikin replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I too have watched many a stream in the past few days. The main thing I've noticed, most people don't use the region properly. The tile size being what they are, it's clearly best to have cities have their own functions and to share them properly. If one city is on the ocean, make them the water supplier for other cities(near endless water supply). You could have some little green city in charge of the poop and perhaps a green power supply(the advanced solar panels are pretty badass). Make the culture city have a whole ton of schooling, including the monstrous university. I've only seen 1 or 2 people do this and it works great, albeit hard to balance when all your cities are still growing. That being said, I've also seen many regions have near 0 connectivity. Tourists weren't coming in, resources weren't being shared an airports/boats/trains were pretty much useless. This wasn't by design either, the region simply wasn't allowing it. so if my friend comes home drunk and destroys his city is the region screwed?

Your city could be totally full and dependent on the other one for a vast amount of services. If thats the case, him destroying his city could do a LOT of damage. -
Discussion about City Tile Size
Vaikin replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
It's clearly a subjective term. They probably aired too much on the side of getting as many customers as possible vs map size. But they'll either a) release bigger maps soon or b) someone will mod it for bigger maps.- 1,284 Replies

The blue water blobs or the brown sewage blobs are just a graphical representation of the travelling of resources. Whether we see them or not, they'd need to be tracked in order to be simulated properly. They need to exist and us seeing them can be useful for tracking problems.

Discussion about City Tile Size
Vaikin replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
No, No, they said theyd like to implement them, but its not a definite. Lets be honest here, the maps are tiny and the same size because they want to force specialization which is their thing for this game... and have an even ground for leaderboards and the like. Every article I read said they will increase map size, there just isn't a specific date for when it will be done(next month, next year, whenever).- 1,284 Replies

Worth Pre-Ordering the Limited/Deluxe Edition?

http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/html/pbPage.SimcityNA No modding, not yet at least. And Origin isn't spyware persay. It acts very much like Steam does. -
I have a great computer and ran the beta on ultra settings and it ran smooth as silk.I never bothered to check cpu usage, but I know it isn't trying very hard to run(fan speeds). So, when they decide to release bigger maps for better computers, it will be easy to have them in their own leader board categories. That way, average user can still be at the top of average sized maps...just not the huge ass ones. As for cpu speeds. Well, there are many considerations that determine how fast they run...not just mhz. Otherwise you could buy an i5 quad core for $130 and it would be the same as an i7 quad core that costs $400. Both may run at 3.4ghz but that i7 would destroy the i5.

No sequel is ever the same as the game before it. And the argument "if it isn't broken don't fix it" is invalid. If that was the case, why wouldn't they just take SC4 and make a few fixes and re-release it as SC5? Games need to evolve and improve. Sometimes what a dev thinks is improvement, isn't what you think it is. Boo hoo.

Woulda been extra nice if they let you download earlier. I'm downloading at like, 700kb/s...but it's going to take 3-4 hours before it will finish. So I'll get exactly 0-30 minutes playtime...
