If it's a new city in a new region with no money to spare, obviously you can only build them as you can afford to use them. But, if it's a new city with enough money(gifts/sandbox/etc) then designing the perfect layout ahead of time is a better choice.

Building a Casino City - Experiences
Vaikin replied to RFV94's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'm not sure if it is worth it to have high density commercial zoned for hotels. True, they do hold a ton of tourists, but they also take up quite a bit of space. Elegant casino hotel modules take very little space. It's also not necessary to keep every tourist in the city as many thousands should be arriving daily. You can see what I mean by this picture here.- 11 Replies

If you delete/disable the HQ or any of it's addons, the addons for the casinos get disabled.- 11 Replies

A really silly question to the modders?
Vaikin replied to simcopops's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
While I can appreciate the difficulty in creating/refining/debugging a game, especially complex games, I think it's absurd that they would make new content to buy before fixing features that came with the basic game(School buses getting stuck, street cars getting jammed at the station, elegant casino plops that work, gifting that works...just to name a few). -
It seems to rarely work for me, and when it does the evil bastards take 20% as some sort of fee. 95% of the times I've tried sending gifts, they get taken from me and never arrive at their destination.

The College kills my Education
Vaikin replied to Kearney86's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
My students are all sucked into neighbouring cities regardless of whether or not my city actually needs the outside help. Anyway around this? I really don't need an army of school buses coming into/out of my city every day. -
I put down 2 or 3 casinos and then added several at a time until I couldn't fit any more. High-Wealth only comes via Boat/Plane/Car. So I didn't place any other transport methods and I didn't place planes because they don't bring in lots of tourists for their cost. Also, if you try and have all 3 classes, it will fail. Low/Med wealth sims VASTLY outnumber high wealth and if you try to get all 3 in your city, the lower two will just push out the high wealth. My other city(^ up there) only has 2k high wealth out of 250k tourists, and I've never seen them in my city. Best bet, do either low-med or high, anything else will be no where near as good. Also, I'm not entirely sure what draws in tourists. Like you noticed, there are no attractions. Perhaps the casino signs are enough to get the ball rolling and then they just continue to come by themselves? Remember, 600 high wealth per sign * 19 = 11k high wealth tourists. Probably don't need even half that amount

Thank you for sharing!! Looks like uv done a good job! How have u managed to only have one hotel outside of the casinos? Any reason u haven't used tourist attractions? Sorry to b pain jus this specialisation is the one I have experienced the least! I have some hotels at a few of the casinos, just enough to keep some sims in the city instead of leaving(probably helps the traffic situation). Aside from that, it's probably the sheer number of tourists that come into the city. Btw, that city now has at least 2x tourists in the city than that screenshot shows. I didn't use attractions, mostly because it wasn't needed. Once you get to something where you're almost completely out of room and yet you clearly have thousands of tourists roaming around with nothing to do, that's when I put in a few attractions(leaning tower, statue of liberty, etc). That way they won't take away from the casinos which earn WAY more money. Here's another city, in my attempt to get all high wealth. Those 45k tourists, 43k of them are high wealth The only problem the city has right now, is crime. And that is because it's in the same region as 2 other casino cities. I currently get 1000 criminals a day. Traffic slows down the cops and then criminals end up burning down/forcing citizens to leave. I'm in the process of fixing that though. This city, I started with 10million(just to make it easier on myself) from another city. I laid out a lot of residential and made 90% of it high wealth. Then I placed all the boats(planes are stupid expensive and give much less high wealth tourists). Then I placed the elegant casinos. One after another and another...and another.

I just started a casino city yesterday and it's running very well. I have low/no traffic, no tourism buildings(eiffel tower, stadium, etc), and not a ridiculous amount of public transport either. As you can see, it makes good money and it will soon be higher. Elegant casinos cost a fortune hourly and make, at least for me, crap all since the extensions do not work. I intend to replace them with the sleek casinos which, on average, are making 200k/hr each. Edit: Definitely need the elegant casinos. I have them with a bunch of the penthouses in them and it keeps the rich sims in the city, basically forever. Income goes upto 100k+ an hour currently and falls down to 30k/hr during off-peak.

Streets or avenues to make a big city? what should you use?
Vaikin replied to bigmummylover's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Gotta love stop signs. The connecting points should definitely be stop signs(gives the roundabout 100% right of way). -
For me so far, disasters come in insane sprees. I'll get none for days and days and then get them every 20 minutes for a few hours.
-
Still, no. The city placements aren't all right beside each other like SC4. And even in the 16 city regions, cities are in small groups and can't connect to other groups.
-
Unfortunately not, it's 2.5 million in a region.

Nuclear Reactors - Not as bad as you think
Vaikin replied to UntCaptain's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
A CC in every city would be fine, but that won't max out tech level. Having a city with a relatively low population and a university that serviced the whole region would be ideal...but apparently just doesn't work right now :s -
Seven disaster in two hours
Vaikin replied to morriswalters's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Quantity of attacks is one thing, but I've had an army of lizard attacks and every single time they did almost no damage. A handful of rci buildings needed to be dozed, but that's it. Then one time, he ran through the entire city and literally killed my police/health/fire/education buildings. I've also had a meteor strike cause 400 fires...totally not cool. -
What service do you plop first?
Vaikin replied to CosmicSpeed's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I take the other approach. I put down a school and then have almost no crime and minimal fires. -
I started a new region last night. I just noticed I didn't have a clinic nor a police station. My city has 27k population with no crime, no criminals, no sick people, no injured people... Anyone else having this issue?
-
I too have seen the same. But this wasn't some 500 person village, it has almost 30k people. Also, it isn't just crime. Like I said, no sick/injured people in a mining town...very odd.

Tips & Tricks - Making Money with the Arcology and Electronics [HD] [1080p]
Vaikin replied to Smartguy1669's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Very arguably, as you could very easily not even know this. I just kept placing processor/computer factories until I ran out of space. I saw a thread about it and checked my own. They're all over the place for number of workers. One row will have 1 in each building, the next row will have 130 in each. -

Selling computers and excess processors. As long as your plants have 1 worker in them they work to full capacity. Meaning you can have a relatively low population and still make a killing. Oh, I also have university and the Vu Tower to try and force full high-tech bonus(2x the production). -

For hotels, just use commercial zones and make the land value $$$, high wealth tourists will stay there. -

Vaikin replied to Smartguy1669's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Dunno, the arcology means you get a ton of commuters every day. I have a city with 25k people making 15 million in profits a day with somewhere close to 0 traffic. -

Can you build TV factories and import the necessary supplies?
Vaikin replied to trschilling's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You can import processors and alloys and build computers. You could also import plastic/alloys and build processors and computers. Both work just fine and make huge money.- 12 Replies

Police Precincts take up a ton of space
Vaikin replied to Andreww9's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Depending on what you're doing in a city, you barely even need police. Education lowers crime to near 0. I have a city of 250k with 4 police cars in it...
