  1. SimCity: Wishlists

I'd like SimCity 5 to be roughly similar to the cities XL series as far as not being confined to the grid and a free camera, but still maintain most of the SimCity 4 aspects. This could include: Not confined to the grid, but possibly having an option to turn it on for guidance A free camera An open, customizable, transportation system (Similar to both the NAM mods and CXL, allowing the NAM's features to be placed as normal roads) Realistic building construction (Not just the animation, but also functionality) Trade (Very similar to CXL) Planets (Similar to CXL) Although I have no idea how it would work, Multiplayer Things NOT to have: Different residential zone types (Unskilled Workers, Skilled Workers, Executives, Elites) It's a completely unrealistic aspect of CXL that I wish didn't exist. Should all industry except for offices be one zone type? Tons of city maintained buildings (i.e. Leisure buildings would be run by companies) In what country does the government run leisure?
  2. SimCity: Gameplay

SimCity 5? I never thought this would happen! The thing is, will it be able to compete with the current SimCity 4 community of mods, and the Cities XL series?
  3. Texture Modding-Quickstart

This is a great tutorial, but I encountered personally a few problems. First, when I attempted to run Cities XL Unpacker, my security found it a threat and permanently deleted the file. I do not really like the idea of disabling my computer's security, even for a short period of time, but there must be some way to get around this.? Secondly, can this same method be applied to texturing the ground? Thank you, -Highrise99
  4. Modd Ideas/Requests

I would be very interested in a grid mod. I am very well aware that most of the tools in Cities XL have some snap functionality, whether it be random locations, angles, or distances. However, I am more interested in a modification that would allow me to see the grid visibly. Why? I usually use trees as way points, as strange as it sounds, and I would like to be able to see where I should point the tool in order to be in the same grid as the tree. This might just be a texture mod, but it could be more complicated, as you would have to position the grid precisely. I am not a modifier, so I would be very interested in the release, or at least a precise walk through, of how to make this mod. You may hear me bring this topic up in the chat, where more people are and it is easier to get attention. Really hoping to see this mod soon, -Highrise99
  5. GlobexCo Workshop

The Unlocker Mod is great, but I have just encountered a MAJOR problem with it and the patch. After v5 was released, I downloaded and installed it, after it was quickly updated. Then, since it was compatible with the patch, I downloaded and installed the patch for CXL. I did not really play the game for a while until... ...now, when I discovered all of the Unlocker Mod's features were gone! All help is appreciated. Thank you, -Highrise99 Update: I tried uninstalling the Unlocker Mod, but it did not work, so I manually deleted all of the files. Then I restarted my computer, but the installer malfunctioned, so I restarted my computer again. I then reinstalled the Unlocker Mod, and I was patient enough for the PlazaXL installer to start. I am actually glad I had to reinstall the Unlocker Mod because I did not originally install PlazaXL.
  6. Ideas for the next XL Game

This would be very useful because whenever I build an interchange in CXL, (non prefabricated) There are usually traffic problems where the roads split. A mod, or an addition to the game in the next edition by Focus, like the RHW, would be very useful. Until then, here are some useful tips when building interchanges in CXL: Plan ahead, and figure out how many roads the interchange will consist of. It is almost impossible to add another road to an interchange, or change the type of interchange Clear out lots of space to work. Transiton all fast lanes into expressways. It is much easier to work with roads. Split the roads by first creating a road with decent length, but with slightly less than a 45 degree angle. (straiter to the road) Keep splitting the road until there are the desired amount of strait roads, slip lanes, and receiving slip lanes. Begin with tall bridges and deep tunnels, as it is easier to build bridges first and run roads under them, snaking them between the supports. Remember to plan ahead to get the desired type of interchange.

  8. The 10,000 Post Thread v2

2575 edit: 2576 (Skimbo posted while I was writing) I have two versions of monopoly: the one where the money values and property are changed (to make it more modern) and monopoly city. (you physically put buildings on laid out plots on the board)
  9. Problems with metro lines

Also, unskilled workers are muchore likely to take public transports, but as you progress to the higher classes, they are more reluctant to take the bus or the metro. They are more likely to take their car, unless the traffic is bad enough for them to use the public transport services. In this case, they would be very unsatisfied because of the traffic.
  10. How do you build a Mega Structure?

I know, it's really hard. Once I cheated to get tons of resources, and I still couldn't build it.
  11. I'm about to lose it 7cuz of the leisure!

Don't necessarily go by the citizen's satisfaction. If your citizens aren't satisfied at the moment, but the roads have a good level of service, then your citizens will soon be happy. I've noticed that different lessiure facilities have different effects on a city - a smaller one might increase the level of service more than a larger service. Carefully place each facility, and test it before placing it. (the game shows a preview of how the level of service changes) if you don't notice a change when there is a need for more leisure, the service is not worth placing.
