  1. I heard that Vista/Win7 had problems running this program but I haven't been able to find a solution to make it work yet. Does anyone know a workaround?
  2. This is beyond frustrating and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong to insert this curve in the exact same way I inserted the bottom one. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
  3. Trill Point

    Cool, thanks for sharing. :)

Wow, the terrain is gorgeous, nice job touching it up.  What terrain mod are you using?
  5. In the current suburb city I am working on, I have no commercial demand anywhere except for C$$$ Offices, which is about as high as it can be. Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with that, if it weren't for the fact that C$$$ offices won't even develop on my commercial zones. So now, I basically have no commercial development at all, which is bad. The only things other than that which have demand to develop, are low wealth residential, and hi-tech industry. Anyone know why this is happening? The desirability is high enough for the offices to develop where I zone them in. Aside from the commercial development problem, what can I do to get more medium-high wealth residential development going?

Try carving out some green space by dezoning some of it and planting trees on it. Also, if you haven't, do something to get rid of any garbage. quote> Tried that, but since my desirability levels are already pretty much at their highest everywhere it didn't do anything. Pollution is also way down since I have tons of trees planted everywhere, blocking most from reaching any non-industrial areas. There's not much traffic anywhere either since it's a suburb and low density spread across a fairly wide area. But some areas may actually have higher traffic, but just very low congestion. Last thing I tried was just zoning in more residential, trying to get them up to medium-wealth, and then I noticed some a fraction of my nearby commercial zones develop. One thing that I noticed though is that I do have a significantly larger amount of jobs than I have citizens. I guess if jobs aren't needed that may explain it.
  7. Sometimes when I zone in new areas, weather it be residential, commercial, or industrial, all of the buildings together will just develop into the exact same type of house/building like in this SS. Is there any mod that gives more randomness to that? I'd like to see more variety of buildings in my neighborhoods or else it just looks too boring. Also, does anyone know what the heck those big boxes are in the middle of my roads?
  8. I've been adding individual mods/buildings from a large number of downloads from here, but I was going to try to shoot for a consistent theme when picking them out which is taking a lot of browsing. Some of the CJ's I've looked at had a very consistent theme going on with a lot of their custom buildings, so I imagine they were very selective on which mods they downloaded and installed, picking only the ones that fit the theme of their city. That, or is it possible that there are mod packs available for download out there which include a large variety of custom buildings that all share the same theme?
  9. I am trying to apply the SC4Update4BAT.exe to my Builder Architect Tool, but when I run it, it keeps saying this, "Old File not found", when it is trying to look for SimCity_1.dat. Well, I am literally looking inside my SimCity4 folder, and its right freaking there, staring me in the face as plain as day. What the heck is the problem???
  10. Installing BAT. System can't find file.

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I needed. The BAT update worked without hassle after I patched with SKU2. Unfortunately, the hope was that it would help with my CTD issue, but it still hasn't... =( Isn't there an update that brings the version up to 1.1.640?
  11. Is there any place on this site, or anywhere else, that may be able to give me some good design ideas for how to place my buildings, layout neighborhoods, setup my road network, etc?... I am trying to make a city that I can look at without boring myself to death and actually be proud of, rather than just a functional one. I am currently trying to make a profitable suburb on a large map and I am starting to quickly run out of ideas on how to make it look nice. It's difficult to get any significant income when I don't do a typical (and boring) grid and high density city.
  12. Installing BAT. System can't find file.

No, when I reinstalled the game last, I knew about the issues that the no-cd patch, so I decided not to apply it this time.
  13. Installing BAT. System can't find file.

So apparently, I have no idea where or what the EP1 update is then I guess. Can someone link me to it? I have Deluxe edition btw.
  14. Installing BAT. System can't find file.

Actually, my version reads 1.1.613 when looking at it from the .exe properties. But when I went to one of the SIm City 4 patch pages, which detected which version of the game I currently had, it read build 640. This is really getting horribly confusing. I no longer am sure if I updated my game properly and I spent hours, days trying to get this game installed and updated properly... All I know is that I ran all the SKU updated from this link, simcity.ea.com/update/index_update.php
  15. Need new ideas for city (suburb) design

Thanks for the links! I'll try them out. Here's a pic of my whole city. Still lots of room to expand, just not sure how to do it.
  16. I found a youtube video showing how to use NWM.RHW but all it really covered was how to expand its roads in one direction, and how to make intersections with its basic roads. However I am trying to figure out how to change direction of three or more lane roads (that take up two tiles) and I can't seem to do it right. Also, I figured out how to create intersections but the intersections that I created don't have any sort of traffic lights or anything.
  17. Originally posted by: Tarkus The mod shown in that video is the RHW, not the NWM. In fact, the NWM didn't exist yet when that video was made (2008). The RHW smooth curves are located under the RHW Curves menu. There are only 45-degree curves and S-Curves for the RHW-4 network. However, there are 90-degree curves for it--only the RHW-2 and MIS have 90-degree smooth curves. As jdenm8 stated, the NWM's dual-tile networks (TLA-5, OWR-4, OWR-5, MAVE-4 and MAVE-6) cannot go diagonal or curve in the current version. Diagonals take more time to figure out from a modding perspective, but they'll be in a future NWM release. -Alex (Tarkus) quote> Ok, I finally found it (not sure how I missed it before), but when I try to extend it, this happens. It puts in a two-way extension instead of a one-way, two-lane.
  18. Need new ideas for city (suburb) design

How many texture related mods are there out there? I have a texture mod for the territory, and cliffs, but the water and my beaches look really bland. Beaches don't look like beaches anymore.
  19. @jdenm8 This guy did it. At the very beginning of his video he is able to make a 45 degree wide curve with his two lane highway. I don't have the option to do that. Is it RHW or NWM that does that?
  20. I recently downloaded a huge pack of plugins for the game, about 2.7GB in size, and I was hoping to get some ideas of which ones people actually used. The only reason I don't go ahead and throw them all in there is because I don't want to be overwhelmed with a huge amount of stuff I'll never get to use, especially since I just started learning how to play the game. I also imagine if I install everything at once, it'll take forever to scroll all the way down the lists to find what I'm looking for. With that being said, could anyone give some recommendations? I'd really appreciate it.
  21. I've got a pretty high educated community and almost 200k citizens, as well as sufficient water, power, jobs, health, etc.. Almost everything is in high or satisfactory levels, and my mayor rating is high as well. Do I just need more residents?
  22. Do I need 4x4 zoned high density areas? Or does it need to be a bigger area, like 6x6?
  23. Unable to run SC4Mapper2 on Windows 7

I already have directX 9 redist installed. But what DLL files do I need to copy over and where is DX9's default install directory?
  24. How can I figure out what I am missing dependencies for? I could have sworn that I already got all of the dependencies that I needed... There aren't dependencies for dependencies are there?
  25. I tried to just deal with this for awhile, but it's gotten to the point where it's nearly unplayable. The game won't stay open no matter what I try. My PC is powerful enough to handle modern games just fine without any crashes or problems at all most of the time, and I haven't had a single virus or spyware infection in over three years. I did a little research though and I found out that many people had problems running this game in Windows Vista, and with multi-core processors, but nobody ever seemed to be able to find a solution to their issues. I am running in Windows 7 64 bit, with a quad-core. I tried patching the game, lowering the graphics, running in XP compatible mode, restarting my computer, reinstalling the game, but nothing has helped. The game is pretty much non-functional now, crashing about 15 seconds after loading any city. What am I supposed to do? Has anyone managed to run this game fine in Windows 7 without any problems? Because if you have, I'd certainly like to know your secret.
