10 storeys is not a skyscraper, especially for a city of 3 and a half million people. Hell, even Guelph, my hometown (which has only 130,000 people) has lots and lots of those. 20 storeys is sort of notable, 30 storeys is getting closer to skyscraper status.

Simtropolis will be meeting with SimCity Societies developers
the Monkeys Uncle replied to Dirktator's topic in City-Building Games
dirk and ryb, you lucky buggers! Looking forward to the write-up. -
jack_cheese: halarious box art! Very nice. I suspect you're right about the casual gaming aspect, although if I were a casual gamer, I still can't see why I would want to play SCS...

Oh, I just found a checkbox to enable "automatic welding". Problem solved, but thanks for your help! -
3ds Max - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
the Monkeys Uncle replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I just got my hands on a copy of 3ds Max 7, and I'm learning how it works. One crucial thing I need though, is: how do you weld two points together? You know in gMax where if you had a single line with two loose points at the ends, you could move the points over each other and it would ask you if you wanted to weld them together? I need something like that for 3ds Max. -

I googled it and found plenty. quote> I didn't expect you to, but I thought it was worth a try anyway. It can be pretty challenging to find textures on the internet.

Wowww... too bad I can't register at SSP because it doesn't accept hotmail adresses. Would you consider uploading some of the textures that you used? I would love to try my hand at building my own 3D city. I'll be doing mine in 3ds Max though.

I was thinking about doing something similar. Do you have more screenshots? I've love to look at them.

I'm crying already.

Every once in a while, I have this random idea for a building, and even rarer yet, the idea is actually good enough to BAT. I had one such moment a while ago. It started out like this: Then progressed to this: And so far this: For such a complex and large building, the poly count is only 60,000 so far! So anyway, along with at Simphoni and SC4Dev, I'll hopefully keep you guys posted!

TMU's BAT Buildings
the Monkeys Uncle replied to the Monkeys Uncle's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I haven't made a SC4 render yet, I'll leave that till it's closer to being finished. I'll see what I can do about the lower floors, thanks for the suggestion. It's 480m and 120 storeys tall, BTW. -
TMU's BAT Buildings
the Monkeys Uncle replied to the Monkeys Uncle's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Yeah I was going for a bit of a Burj Dubai crossed with Chicago Spire type look. You know, the setbacks of the Burj and the curvature and rotation of the Spire. The round base actually fits well with the tower IMO. At the bottom, the curve is continued right around to a pretty imposing entry area. Anyway: roof junk! (and a pretty sweet view looking down) -
TMU's BAT Buildings

Thanks! I've been working a little more on it, and I finally got the entire building sheath on, plus the base done. It's looking better than I imagined! Now for the detailing... hopefully I won't have to push it over 100,000 polygons, either (it's currently at 75,000) -
I stand by comment that this is way better than Aesti Dominici ever was. Maybe it's just the photoshopping though, eh.
-
Yeah, there's some really cool building styles in there too! And the buildings conform to roads! Wow! SC5 is looking sooo good already! Almost like it was a REAL PICTURE!

Future of SimCity Official Discussion Thread
the Monkeys Uncle replied to Compromise's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
What? It said in EA's financial reports that they were working on it, and I did not hear anything about them stopping. They haven't officially announced it, but it's obvious they are doing some work on it. Remember that Maxis/EA is a very big company, and is able to work on more than one large project at once. -
