did you try pegs brigantine water mod? -
Any mods that offer more variety for developments?
kolnikov inc replied to Manick2005's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
they're called brown boxes, which means you're missing a dependency. from the look of it, i think your missing files for the street tree mod.....the trick i use for variety (though it can be tedious) is to make all the lots historical and then bulldoze the ones that repeat too much...but there are many things that affect what develops.. stage limits, demand, job availability, so i dont think there is a mod that can alter development. -

Bonus Update: The Northern Coast - Hilton Hills
kolnikov inc commented on Jamonbread's City Journal Entry in Callahorn Empire V2 - Capitol District
..this is a great update, the work with sloped terrain is exceptional. -
..i live in Newark, Delaware EST...i watched periodically for 5 hours, it was an incredible event, not a cloud in sight....i stood for 20 mins with binoculars as the last sliver of light subsided into a grayish red... ...lunar eclipses are NOT rare, they do happen almost every two years (but they are only partial eclipses).. .the last TOTAL (full) lunar eclipse visible in the northern hemisphere happened in the 1600's. .at 3:17 EST, when the moon was completely buried by reddish shadows, the sky opened up to an even more spectacular sight...the constellation of Orion and the opposition of Jupiter...its was powerful..

im using the black sand mod for its inshore textures but i use ploppable sand to create variations. i also use Peg's PPond kit to carve the shorelines and its ploppable water to create the illusion of depth. if any one would like a tutorial on this shoreline method i would be more then happy to make one. also i will be making update to this journal although i am not continuing the original idea or premise of it. if this is inappropriate or you find it annoying i can hold off making updates until my next journal has been prepared. ..lastly, a note on color correction...the original color graphics of SC4 can seem quite dull and faded sometimes. so if you use ifranview try experimenting with the color correction option, you can get some really great effects. i wish i had known this when i made my first journal. heres a pic of my default color correction tab which i now use for all of my pics. and now my progress on the shoreline: a beach shot: heres a shot of the breakwater..

Is there anything wrong with using little to no custom content?
kolnikov inc replied to Pipcard's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
@tekindust ....well my quote, that has been used twice, is in fact referring to tyson4's SC4 unplugged. natural growth is a valuable concept and CSGdesign's journal is brilliant because of it. but he has also uploaded his own custom content and does not totally restrict his journal by "unplugging" it. @Z77 ...i would much rather have the materials/tools to chisel marble statues then have globs of mud and a cave wall... lastly, i joined this site because i was so amazed by how altered the game could get..so i plugged in, and to unplug it? ..to swim up stream.. -

that's why i used the word 'orientation' ...because the site's foundation ..(which is different).. is based on the mutual appreciation of 'sim' games, yes that's true, but it is oriented towards the exchange and display of custom files. and im also not sure why you would think that every object a person creates is automatically art. i think that art is an attitude, a lifestyle and a way of seeing the world. a true artist doesnt 'do' or 'make' art. a true artist is art..and by being so all his actions and designs have no choice but to be an expression of that art. so if you cannot let art infiltrate every aspect of your existence then you can only hope to get closer to the artist mind. -

..yeah this journal isnt playing out anymore.. .but, in the mean time, heres some pics of what ive been working on. it deals with terrain modification. im using 'oppies canal' water mod. the brigantine water mod, which alot of people use, isnt what im looking for..its too photo-realistic.. i want more of a satellite imaging look.. this is basically an experiment and its definitely not a finished product...i plan on using this technique for my next journal, so if you have any shoreline sculpting tips, let me know. the picture above uses the black sand mod which creates these whitish inshore designs. it reminds me of satellite imaging of the massive port in the netherlands. ..i study satellite images almost as much as i actually play the game..if you dont have google earth i suggest you download it. ..scrolling aimlessly though europe i often find unique treasures like this:
