Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They said data transfers will be very light (many of them worked on Spore, so they should know what "light" actually means). And that the game can still run even after you remove the net plug. About subscription fees, again, I think they'll do what they did to Spore; meaning it'd be pay to own, and free to play - hopefully. Cause if not, then that'd be a real deal-breaker for me. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin

I think you're just speaking on behalf of the people who don't want online play. If turning a game online didn't made money, EA would have simply brushed the idea off. Apparently there's a good market there, so they're confident enough on investing millions into it. While online multiplayer is a nice idea, SimCity in my opinion should still have the option to play as a fully solo player, completely unaffected by any external force. Staying true to the notion that: "This is my world, and not of anybody else." -
Another preview http://www.g4tv.com/games/pc/65940/simcity/articles/76948/simcity-preview-more-like-simglobal/ Kip Katsarelis interviews http://venturebeat.com/2012/03/28/kip-katsarelis-simcity-designer/ http://www.shacknews.com/article/73061/one-on-one-with-simcitys-mayor http://mashable.com/2012/03/28/sim-city-preview/ Seems like Maxis created their own press conference at Emeryville. Kotaku: ^ If this statement is not just meant in the subjective sense, then that'd be awesome. It'd be cool to actually see my neighbor manage his city while I do my own. Especially during disasters - smells likes region-wide catastrophes are coming...

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'm getting sick of people thinking that there will be no mods for this game. SimCity 4 also had NO MOD SUPPORT when it was launched... --- If modding would come later, I have a good feeling there would also be an offline mode. My speculation is that they are just trying to persuade the public to try online mode first.. Either way, as long as playing online is free (hell, make it free!), I'm still very much okay with it. I'm just sad for those people who can't be online all the time... But don't worry, hope is not lost, there is still time for change. -

Your Questions for Maxis (for March-April 2012)
meowza replied to Kevin's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Spore seemed very promising when it was first announced, but it suffered from massive public protests towards the end due to various reasons. Question: How is Maxis (including EA) preventing this from happening again for the new SimCity? -
Your Questions for Maxis (for March-April 2012)
meowza replied to Kevin's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Question: Aside from detailed statistical graphs, is there anything else that Maxis didn't include from SC4? - I'm still hoping for graphs to return though, even as a hidden option. -

Your Questions for Maxis (for March-April 2012)
meowza replied to Kevin's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Power Play Magazine: Question: Social Mobility. Is it true that citizens won't be able to climb up or down the social ladder? Instead, will they be obviously replaced to accommodate a different type of social class? (Thanks Kevin for starting this thread!) -
Dont You Think The New SimsCity Looks Like SimsCity4
meowza replied to SimsCity5's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Don't be too critical over such a simple matter. The guy is just asking for an opinionated initial overview. -
My subconscious tells me the same thing. We can't deny it, we all want offline mode.

Fully Featured Solo Offline Play Mode
meowza replied to Gamma Stardust's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Hypothetical outline: I. Online (internet connection required) . . . A. World - client side moddable . . . . . . 1. Public Region . . . . . . 2. Private Region . . . . . . . . . a. Multi . . . . . . . . . b. Single . . . B. Private Region - fully moddable . . . . . . 1. Multi . . . . . . 2. Single II. Offline - fully moddable . . . A. Multi (private network) . . . B. Single I can live I-B-2 if they don't allow II-B. I would also like to try I-A-1 once in a while. -
Dont You Think The New SimsCity Looks Like SimsCity4
meowza replied to SimsCity5's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Visually, yes it looks more like SC4. True to the SC series to be more precise. Gameplay, it definitely does lean towards the original series. But I don't think it's going to play out exactly like SC4, not even like an improved version. It has a league of its own, so to speak. Either way, this game doesn't look like SCS at any major angle - that's for sure. -
^ That's also a valid option. Though I think ST chat works in a similar way - not sure if it's still the case nowadays... Four devs had the opportunity to answer Reddit questions within a three hour session, yet there were still so many questions that they left unanswered. So I don't think the amount of time spent answering our questions will be a real issue. Instead, questions that they are only allowed to answer for the time being is what is going to matter for them. If I had a question though, it would be: Is Maxis still taking in suggestions from ST? If yes, please give us an example of a valuable and gameplay-worthy suggestion that you had to add or edit in during development.
-
Solution: ST chat with Maxis. All these uncertainties are driving people nuts - I included. And I definitely don't like the feeling of it.

Cars won't disappear from roads. As far as I know they can park within lots, and it will be visible to the player. Though the animation I saw was only a prototype, so the cars behaved in an awkward fashion, hopefully devs will work more on it. Same concept goes for pedestrians. Read up about GlassBox, the simulation engine behind SimCity.

Fully Featured Solo Offline Play Mode
meowza replied to Gamma Stardust's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I hope they are just delaying the full announcement. And if they are delaying it, they better have a really good reason for doing so. It's been more than two weeks since the GDC, and I'm becoming quite impatient about this... -
SimCity (5) System Requirements
meowza replied to JoeOh's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
If they need to up the requirements just to accommodate public expectation, simulator wise, I'd say do it. -
SimCity will feature an Orchestral Score from Chris Tilton
meowza replied to avalach21's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Contextual BG Music. They need to make everything sound seemless or else things might sound out of place. The only thing I really hate: Orchestral Music + Stop Motion Gumby the Musical?? Sorry, but just imagining it is making my stomach turn... -
Hype going down..

Mine is a roller coaster ride. It's never quite hit the top: it started off kinda mid-line, then got better, then got worse. Right now, it's kind of looking like "not completely terrible"
-
I know what you mean. My doors are still wide open though, anything can still happen at this point. - Trying to steer the wheel to the right direction, and hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Remember the stream mod? I thought it would be nice if the new SC had dynamic water particles into the game. Rain or melting snow would flow to where there are actual land depressions forming ponds and lakes, at any elevation, via underground or surface streams (inc waterfalls) - like an improved version of the rain tool. It would create flood in more precise areas of the city. And the sea could generate waves of accurate strengths depending on certain environmental conditions. The water would also react according to the "physical" objects interacting with it, such as people or buildings. Quick sample search: I must say this sample seems too detailed, something simpler would be enough. I think dynamic water would definitely add more life and realism into the simulation. So I hope the devs could find a way to make it work with their physics engine, without compromising processing power ofcourse.

I think incase they give us the ability to upgrade growables, it would be in the form of a module or prop.
