The E3 videos have vehicles pulling in and out of lots. Including some sim interaction between vehicles and units. As with scaling, like SC4, it's all part of the artstyle's intention. They'd most probably fix that. A lot has been added since the first released shots, but I too still see parts that are missing or needs to be fixed. Though I won't pin point each one of them since I know that they can't show everything with only a couple of pictures and that the game is still being developed. And like any other game, especially with a detailed one like SC, there are bound to be some imperfections.

Interesting shots, thanks for posting. I like how the first picture looks so crime-ridden, while the other seems clean and quite classy. By the way, that intersection looks sick...

^ In support... http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/sounds-of-the-city It's not the prettiest of all official explanations regarding speed, but I'd say it's a strong hint more than anything else. Misinterpretation is still a possibility.

SimCity Social App for Facebook
meowza replied to Trillian2003's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I didn't expect SCSocial to be posted on this section. Anyway... Though despite the usual Facebook drama, the game is fun in its own right. It has very simple SC mechanics, with a few new aspects, such as a mild take of the new SC's resources. The style of growth really depends on the player's decisions and preferences. And I think it has Chris Tilton's music on some spots. I only use FB for important matters. Flash game apps are usually just a one-time thing for me. Though after playing social (on a fresh account), I'm starting to feel that I might just get hooked. Let's see how far this can go. As of now: 4k pop. >1 day play time. No $ paid. -
I'm trying out SCSocial, it's on open beta right now. The usual FB app cliches, but with some nice orchestral background music, and a cut scene of a crashing UFO.

Hey ST peeps. How would you currently score SimCity? Based on the information we've gathered so far since the GDC announcement last March. The poll measures current perception for the unreleased game. Scores do not represent the game in its final state in any way.

Ocean Quigley has been at Maxis since 1995. In that time, he's been an artist and art director, and now serves as creative director on the company's newest SimCity title -- which is due to be released next year, simply under the title SimCity. This game marks a new horizon for the series: For the first time, computing power has increased to the point where the simulation can be built from the ground up, with individual simulation elements (Sim citizens, buildings, vehicles) able to react to one another to produce a full city simulation. Previous games in the series faked granular detail. As an artist, Quigley wants the game to visually portray information to the player as much as possible -- to instantly represent decisions in the world itself, rather than forcing the player to look at charts, graphs, and menus. Quigley explains the work he and others at Maxis have done to achieve this, and how the team makes creative decisions that impact not only the simulation, but also bring forth satisfying decisions for players and also accurately reflect the ways in which these systems interact in the real world. Extra sets shouldn't be the only defining reason why the game is worth buying.

Didn't want to create a new topic just for this, so I posted here instead. Wallpaper Not yet displayed on SC's site. Even if they agreed to do an interview for us this early on, they wouldn't be able to fully answer much of our questions as a modding community since the game is still being built. There are still a lot of information that is going to be released, therefor our perception and questions about the game will keep changing as the months pass. Maxis is aware we're here, they know we've been waiting for this for years. So let's keep being patient, our time will come.

We still need to know the maximum building height and traffic capacity for each type of road. I'd expect it to be near or equivalent to real life. Just like the game's confirmed highest possible population density. While for "density restrictions". My assumption is that certain structures, such as airports, could possibly have their own rule radius to limit building height. If not, then we would just have to layout our transport system more carefully.

Is SimCity 5 starting to resemble SimCity Societies?
meowza replied to jamie6737's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
SCS: senseless specializations; shallow simulation; scarce urban dynamics, construction flexibility and gameplay. SC2013 revamped all of those ideas, and incorporated it into the original SC mechanics seemlessly. I'd say that's a win state. But to say that SC2013 sucks as much as SCS does, despite the demos and press coverages... Is nothing but obvious hatred. -
E3 - SIM CITY Exclusive Interview with minecrafter BebopVox
meowza commented on schokoladeneis 1's article in News
This is not a sequel, it's a reboot. RCI's density will now be controlled by road type, traffic density, and (assuming) demand. Discussion here: -
Maxis Claiming to Listen to its "Core Base"
meowza replied to nedal2001's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
If Maxis fails, then it's unlikely that the world will have another decent city simulator for the next coming years from any other game company. They aren't simply going to spend millions over a genre that is as good as dead, just to end up gasping for air like the numerous studios that tried. http://bit.ly/Kr6C4W -
I'm fine with it. It makes disasters more believable. Though since it's asynchronus play, others could probably delete their city's cache and still have the same effect. That's just an assumption.

Newly posted job ad: Maxis Emeryville is looking for a Mac Graphics Software Engineer. They didn't mention for what game this is exactly for. Aside from it's for a "Mac version of a AAA PC title": http://bit.ly/KAiLRx Nothing officially announced yet if there will be a Mac version for the new SimCity... But this could be a hint.

What "Day One" features do you require?
meowza replied to LivingInThePast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
All the features that Maxis promised. And all the features needed to create fully working systems for each city specialization. -
Why does cartoonish equal bad?
meowza replied to Flat Raver's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'm thankul that SC2K looked attractive to kids, that was years ago. Cause if not, I would probably have never became a fan of the series. Simply put, let's not be too possessive. Share SimCity's fun to other people. -
Maxis Claiming to Listen to its "Core Base"
meowza replied to nedal2001's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Compared to Tilted Mill's SCS, the new SC is definitely more core. I think that's what Maxis is trying to imply. They had to say it, since the stigma that SCS brought to the franchise is immense. They said they started with the core, not went with it all through the end. SC interest has been dropping every year. And as business (you should know), they want to attract as many users as much as possible. And there is no such thing as a single person who can represent the fanbase. -
"No challenge"? Do you know how the game will exactly play out? Or are you basing your assumptions simply on graphics?

Trixies... Alright. Anyway... Here's a hint on visible water http://venturebeat.com/2012/03/28/an-in-depth-preview-of-simcity-reveals-a-crafted-intricate-experience/ And an old concept art showing water (Looks similar to ingame shots. Early ingame pre-render?):

from: Out of all the articles I've read about the game, that's the only one that said there is "no re-shaping of land". And it's not even a direct quote from any of the developers. It was just the writer's impression of the early hands-off demo build that he saw (the one with the arsonist). And that article is not a wrap up of E3 2012 either. It was dated June 4, when E3 was just beginning. As evidenced from the same article: "At E3 its developers will show multiplayer" I haven't seen any llama in the game. Then there must be no llamas at all... Really, please stop spreading misinformation. I'm starting to think you're just out for a smear campaign.

Oh yes, reticulating splines: No, it's not perfectly clear. Please quote your source. Discussion here:
