Zoom it in at 720p. Yes that was a Launch Arcology, that actually launched!

"Online Only" - Must be a typo! Let Maxis hear our voices as early as possible! I'm liking most of the things that have been announced, but please make online play optional! I don't want some troll destroying my power plants...

somebody please record this for youtube! There might be stuff that we won't be interested on.. But who doesn't like this idea? ^ Come on...

The new official Maxis logo

EA kind of confirmed it for us that this is real. I'm now 90% sure that it is. I like the idea of different looking cities as an option, it makes it more user friendly for more types of people. As long as Maxis doesn't deviate much from the original SC mechanics, I'm all for this. Can't wait for the official statement! Don't let us down Maxis! GDC Timer and Live Stream

Everybody here knows SC5 is long overdue. Trust rating for Maxis has definitely fallen a few notches because of this. Making pessimism understandable.

Two different cities + connected by a bridge... Smells like a head start on multiplayer marketing. Online play is good if it's done the right way. Though I'm assuming they can pull this off, that is if the screens are real, since they should've learnt from the downfall and rise of CXL (online) and CityVille respectively.

First Image of SimCity 5, from German magazine GameStar
meowza commented on SimTanic's article in News
Let's assume the images are real, for now... Yes, the graphics are cartoony, as many have mentioned. And as a long time advocate of SC, I completely agree to that. Though it's part of their marketing strategy, that is to entice mainly new would-be SimCity mayors, and not just to the old-time minority connoisseur. Sad as it is, we have to face it if we still want to support SC. Reality check, the game is almost dead, and EA needs to make sure that this sequel look appealing to more people or else they might face poor sales in the end. And by the way, I say graphics since I believe that a couple of the screens are actual under development shots from the actual game. How so? Why would they put "grids" in art concepts? Art concepts should look good, photoshopped to the max, without a sinch of eye strain. This is similar to the very first screens released of SC4 which had: grids, markers, unpolished graphics, yet very similar to the final product. What worries me, aside from the fact that these might all be just a big circus act... Cartoony, already mentioned. This includes the very off scaling on many aspects. Grids, still present. Camera Angle. Yes it is 3d, but it looks like it doesn't have the freedom like CitiesXL has. Gameplay. Nothing mentioned about this yet, but it seems they would need to dumb the mechanics down to accomodate their new customers. And I hope they still make the game fun for us, and not take the SCS road where the game was too easy that it became boring. The texture details, reflections, lack of ground objects, atmosphere effects, modding don't worry me too much, as these can all be easily improved towards the game release, or added as an upgrade. On the good side, aside from the usual graphical enhancements any game sequel must have.. They mentioned that they improved the visual events. This makes the city more "alive" in my opinion. Seeing sims going to work, disasters, and crime actually happen is a trademark of SC afterall. Aside from that, it seems we will be seeing some nicely fit lots (and possibly buildings), like CXL's texture fillers -the fixed CXL lot sizes always frustrated me. A more dynamic approach for this would definitely be a plus. Overall, my initial conclusion: too early to be getting our hopes up, LOTS of things still need improvement. And BS is still a possibility, so let's take this with a grain of salt. -

I'd like to see the following, if not, it's still good: Allies; Trollies; Some kind of Futuristic Mass Transpo. (Including space maybe? ); And a flexible way to mold or combine standard transportation options (ex: customizable highway intersections, elevated-rail over avenue, etc.)

Originally posted by: dasilva Hi meowza, Could you elaborate more about your idea on "synchronizing" Cultures with the micromanagement aspect of the game?quote> If MC were to include a culture or a societal aspect in CU that does not perfectly fit the micromanagement game play, this might ruin the game in some way or another. Actually I'm not sure on how MC will pull the synchronization of the two aspects together, since I have yet to see a perfect city simulator that could simulate a true "living" city; and not a robotic, fully user-controlled sandbox. Think of it as having a single sophisticated independent AI for every in-game citizen; which is affected by his social, emotional, cultural, psychological, behavioral, economic environment, and all the other factors that influence the growth of a real human being. So for example, if you have 1 million citizens in your city, you have 1 million individual AIs interacting with each other and their urban environment from scratch. --All these without sacrificing a great city micromanagement game play... This notion seems almost impossible, but it is my dream of an ideal city simulator. (Kinda like the Matrix eh? ) But I honestly doubt if the current CU is ready for this endeavor. Maybe we may see such simulator in the next franchises of MC's city management games. But who knows, maybe the time has come... I hope that cleared up some ideas I wish to convey. If it didn’t, then I don't know any other way on how to elaborate it. Some help would be nice.

I like the idea of a semi-multiplayer online game. I'm not exactly sure how it will work, but it sounds good. If CU shall include cultures or societies (as SCS), hopefully it'd be aesthetically synchronized with the micromanagement aspect of the game... If not, I suggest that MC scraps the culture section entirely.

Damn, I can't wait to see an in-game video. I guess by now, most ppl are worried about their hardware... Those screens look so amazing. So amazing that it might it kill our PC. Better start upgrading.

Nice man, you're improving. Yeah, the back part needs a bit more detailed texturing. Maybe adding parking paint guides to the pavement would to the trick. But overall, good details. That's what makes a good BAT, "good". Details... Btw, a night shot would be nice to. Keep it up! [More Pinoy-Made BATS!]

1P 3D UDI. Now thats A UDI. A mayor avatar for the player would also be nice...

Looks more like a kiddy, on-the-go version of SC3k. But what the hell, atleast it didn't totally deviate from the SC franchise like what SCS did. Btw, who developed this game? Solely EA?

thanks for the translation 6u.

Enough with the hate threads and posts. It's now time to say what you like about the SimCity Scocieties, if any...

These types of kinds of games will eventually be accepted by the general public. It is only a matter of time...

If this is the case, then they should also ban light guns.
