Thanks so much for the kind words It's been fun to plan out the city, trying to make it look reasonably organic while still making it work within Cities: Skylines' traffic system.

Thanks for the suggestion whiteshark I actually have looked into Satellite myself, it looks really nice however the problem I have is it doesn't seem to work well with the Alpine Theme. Maybe that means I need to change the theme instead then. I think the problem with the Alpine theme is, while it makes great mountain and water texturing, it tends to wash out all the colors too much leaving lots of harsh white, and so any LUT I apply just makes everything extremely bright and hard to look at. I've played around with Daylight Classic to try and compensate for this a bit, but it hasn't been hugely successful.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm looking forward to really flesh things out and clean them up as well! Also I've been struggling to find good LUTs to go with the Alpine Theme I have for the map, if anyone has any suggestions I'd be more than happy to hear them. Cheers

I wanted to post a bit of an overview of my city (very much under construction of course), to give a taste of where I hope this journal can go. Below I have included a "starter set" of overview images, complete with a Cimtographer OSM map. As I mentioned, much of the city is incomplete. There are massive sections that do not yet exist in any way (such as an international airport, country club, solar array, and lots and lots more suburbs, complete with functioning puiblic transit), and those sections that do are in various stages of completion, with most of it needing more refinements and detailing. That being said, here's a few overview shots of the city as a whole. Enjoy! Overview of the Business district, Capitol hill, and shore-line apartments. University is to the right, Highway 10 to the left, and the central park + new developments at the top. The central park and newer city center, from above. Older apartments around the original park on the left mix with with newer construction to the right. The main road bisects the two (disregard the Opera House just off camera to the right, as it is simply a placeholder for a proper asset). The sunken highway runs across the top of the image. The central park of the city, looking north. An older cathedral sits just off of the park, amongst the much newer apartment buildings. The office district, south of central park. The rear of Capitol Hill sits on the left of the image. The newly-minted university, situated in a small space between the main highway (Highway 10) over the mountain pass and the shore of the lake. An old lighthouse sits on a rocky outcropping to the right (yes, it's a lake, so no, there are no large ships. Just roll with it). The Central Transit Station, located just behind the university (you can see it in the background of the photo above). With the launch of the Metro Overhaul Mod, I've been in the process of rebuilding my transit system from scratch. This older station sill services the old tracking, but will soon be updated to house the newer metro system. Because having two systems necessitates multiple points of transit between inter-city rail and the local metro, this station will become one of two transit hubs, the other located on the west end of the city. Also, don't mind the wobbly highway to the left. That's getting rebuilt too (I built that before I had the newer version of Road Anarchy as well as Move It! installed). Business Ave, running east from Capitol Hill (this shot looks west towards the Capitol). An athletic field from the university is just visible in the lower right of the shot. Rt. 101 (the offshoot from Highway 10 that cuts around the north shore of the lake. Will eventually be the main route to the airport, once I build that). The sunken highway was done to try and keep views open across the route, but the larger apartments still block much of the shoreline from the western suburb here. The center of the shot features the newly minted Inter-Transit Station West (or IT West by the locals), serving as a transit point between the inter-city rail and the local metro system. Due to the release of the Metro Overhaul Mod, massive infrastructure changes are needed to introduce the system completely, although doing so will also allow for the city to introduce it's first subway system, something that has been sorely needed to alleviate traffic in the center of town. This station here represents the first step in this process. The beginning of northern suburbs. Because of the transit system running to the left of Rt. 101, a more "experimental" entrance/exit system was required (thanks to the Move It! mod for making this possible). The International Airport is planned to sit in the space at the top of the image, along the edge of the lake. With MOM now being a thing, I can finally have over-road metro systems, and I am loving it. Looks gritty and haphazard, and I love it. Nice looking town! Can't wait to see how this expands and grows. Also, really like the dark, vibrant natur of your images. Good contrast, makes it feel intense :) I assume you're using a variety of post-processing techniques here?

Hey guys, first time taking a crack at this whole city journal thing... Goals for this city: try and play the game as it was meant to be played, but still make a nice, (semi)realistic-looking city. The designer side of me would love to play with everything fully unlocked, completely sandboxed, and spend hours dealing with alllll the little details. The gamer side of me would want to mod the thing to hell, make it super difficult, and just try and keep the thing from burning to the ground completely. So I've compromised - no game-changing mods, only aesthetic ones. Can I make a reasonable-looking city? Been working on this one for a few hours, it's already coming along nicely. Population sitting at just under 8,500. Above we can see the original residential district, looking out to commercial/industrial sectors to the south. You can also see the new residential expansion across the interstate. Below is the main highway entrance into the this district (called Central District because, at least at one point, it was the center. Not so much anymore, as expansion has been mostly south and east). After the central district, expansion moved south along the river, with industries sprouting up near the new power and water facilities. Eventually the main road (Rt. 4) continued even further south to the large interstate suspension bridge, with multiple commercial sectors sprouting up along the way. With the booming industry and now commercial zones, new residential space was needed, necessitating multiple crossings over the freeway to the large open fields across the way. Two new residential districts were created, Florence and Maple parks. Florence Park, with its close proximity to the main highway crossing, quickly increased in population, with multiple apartments springing up (and soon a third commercial district to the south). Maple Park, meanwhile, stayed at a lower density, as the alternate main road (Rt. 4a) snaked up around the hill to the north, along the highway. A second overpass, connecting Maple to the Central District, was soon added, in an attempt to ease the traffic along the main overpass between Florence and the now rapidly expanding Commercial and Office Districts along the river. As Florence Park grew, the citizens of Severen decided they needed a proper cathedral for their worship (read: I found an asset I liked), resulting in the construction of St. Augustine's Cathedral (and connecting park) just to the south. The ever-increasing traffic between Florence Park and the Industrial/Commercial sectors also necessitated in the construction of an additional overpass, along with a second entrance/exit for the freeway to accommodate the increased freight traffic (alleviating the heavy traffic burden through Central). Given that the rotary to help feed traffic into Rt. 4 was only recently constructed, an interior park has yet to be constructed, although the town is searching for funds to build a properly-suited Modern Art Sculpture to both intrigue and confuse the populace. The increase in traffic through Florence also necessitated transferring many of the roads to one-way streets, allowing for some fun playing around with the road systems to make it all work smoothly. As Florence's population increased, the city's two landfills became over-burdened with the amount of trash out-put, even with the newly constructed recycling center and incineration plant. In a bid to move the landfill sites out of the residential sectors and away from the city, new landfill sites were built across the river to the south. Gotta love that pollution. While the city did not have the funds to properly implement a new, modern waste-water reclamation facility (read: I haven't unlocked it yet), they were able to secure the funds through a Federal Grant for Renewable Energy Sources and construct a new windfarm across the river to the west, as you can see above. Looking out from the ridge where the new turbines are located also creates a nice view of the city. Want the great location and amenities of Florence Park without the density? Then come take a look at the new development in Orchard Heights! These new, more rural houses are located just to the east of Florence Park, and offer some great views of the city. There are even plans to construct a new university up on the hill. Some infographic views. Traffic has been pretty good, although there are some key points that will begin to see heavy loads as the city's density increases. There are a plethora of recently implemented bus routes, as well as a metro system on the drawing board, to help combat this though.
