  1. The Simtropolis Closet Thread - deux!

I have spent my life in different youth organizations. Some of them included LGBT groups - and some unfortunately didn't, while they should have. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to get too confused about who they want to be. In the end, all young peoples (and many adults) in my life simply wanted to be what they really were at the time. This should be obvious, but young peoples often miss out one important part. Being confused of who you are is who you currently are. That part in your life and person is more important than any forced choice that you might feel obligated to make. Your feelings might change soon, or they might never change at all. Get used to the idea. We are all individuals, with unique lives and experiences. That choice between what you are is not so important. Your ability to be content and comfortable with your current emotions is the only thing that really matters. No one - not even yourself - should feel compulsed to make forced choices. If there is a choice to be made, it will not suddenly make itself obvious. It will be something that you notice only years after it was actually made. - Ilja
  2. I had a very pleasant summer weekend few years ago, while visiting Sweden. Sauna, lake, grill and evening were warm, and refreshments were cold. But finns and swedes still relate differently to sauna. Swedes go there just to bathe and we go there to spend the evening. Difference is subtle, but it is still there. Nagging Sweden is our national hobby. They occupied us for a long time and concidered us as worthless cannon fodder and legal objects of all different sorts of property and personal crimes. We fought wars for them, untill Sweden backed out. Russians didn't treat us any better. It was actually much worse. Past is past. Only ultra nationalist lunatics are still serously flapping their mouths about these things. We have a lot common with Sweden. They did take care of our children during WW II, so they haven't been completely useless to us. Still, everything said and done left deep scars, that haven't truly healed. We don't hate our neighbours. We don't wish anything ill for them. We are happy to help, whenever they need us. But when it is time to discuss about sauna, icehockey, social politics or beer with them: cloves are off and heat is on. :kitty:
  3. Windows Mode

Verification compares files in cloud against files in your computer. It replaces missing or corrupted files, if it recognizes them. This means that user doesn't need to do a complete reinstall, or hunt some odd missing file from various corners of internet. I haven't tested verification process against fixed Simcity_1.dat, but I haven't had any problems verifying files for other modified games. SC4 wasn't made for digital verification in mind, so client migh replace some files. While launch setting can be done straight to client, I consider that better approach. Steam doesn't actually complain about modified files, unless those are executable files. To be safe, I have made backup files from original, IH-Fixed and IH-Fix+CAM versions of Simcity_1.dat.
  4. CTD on specific cities. Trying a fresh reinstall.

See your Documents\SimCity4\BSC_Cleanitol folder for removed files. Organizing your plugins sounds like a good idea. I like to organize all my files in to categorized folders and keep my Plugins directory as small as possible, but it still manages to reach 48 items - 16 of them loading order folders. This might be a good time for a little winter cleanup.
  5. Test silly test gave me Sweden! There would be only few rare reasons for me to leave my proper Finnish sauna behind. Sweden is not one of them. (Swedes are Finns are "best enemies" in sport, and pretty defensive of our own national traditions. Only country to threaten our bad bromance is Canada. We will never forgive them for beating us in IHWC 1994. We are still sore about that. )
  6. Your political views

I would like to see this type of test that uses subjects values toward money to estimate his/her political views. That could be an eyeopener, because I still meet a lot of (European) adults thinking that taxes are literally used to cover government expences. Peoples cant make a difference between circulating money and central bank money either. That explains why political discussion in Finland might get heated, when it touches large public loans or investments, but maybe it's like that in other countires as well, That test put me near the southwest corner of the compass, but that is way too far left for me. I am a social democrat (central left) and member of the party. There are many further left parties in Finland for values like this test set for me. It tested more of a basic life values than political views. Edit: 4 years in Simtropolis and this was only post number 60. Post austerity.
  7. CTD on specific cities. Trying a fresh reinstall.

Sorry to sneak in, but did you actually remove those files by hand, or did you use Cleantiol to do the job for you? Cleanitol does not destroy removed items. It moves them under another folder, with recovery file attached to them. Unless you have removed this files manually then those files should still be there.
  8. Windows Mode

This can be done straight to SC4 Startup properties as well, if you downloaded your game from Steam. I mention this, because client settings are preferred way for doing this. Being "preferred" only means that you wouldn't loose your custom setting during possible file verification process.
  9. Umh... I might have forked out of the original question. Heavy demand does not help if desirebility factors are low Plop favored lots (parks for R, plazas for C) within 20 squares of your buildings. You should see your lots upgrading soon. Edit: I originally wrote a longer post, but cut it to what we see above. I forgot to remove the first sentence of this section. I would just remove it, but I dislike cleaning already published posts like that.
  10. Treecontroller GodMod Moonshine

Note that this didn't fix the actual problem. The blocker that prevents props to appear is still absent from your game and other displaced props may appear to your region. It's best to use tested tree controller, or follow SimCoug's link, to permanently remove this problem from your game.
  11. Moving SC4 region and plugins.

Except for one more thing. 5. Copy you simcity_1.dat to safe place in your HD or mass memory and copy your new (merged with CAM and I-HT fix) simcity_1.dat instead of it. If you haven't done this previously, we will be happy to give you proper links to instructions how to do these things.
  12. The reason why Prop Pox usually appears only in almost fully filled large tiles is piling effect over several faulty props, or prop heavy lots. I have to remind that faulty prop(s) were made by Maxis, not Peg. You can usually use OWW lots safely. If Prop Pox appears, I would start cutting from Maxis residential lots and prop heavy lots - like certain ancient forest and divider lots. In any case, always favor MMPs, because those are considered as flora and does not (in light of any currently known information) cause piling effect toward Prop Pox. It might be tedious job, but visually rewarding.
  13. Sick leave! Now I have rest of the week to plan my CJ.

  14. Street lights are too bright

And you can occasionally click crossings with street/road tool to speed the process. It updates the driveway for several tiles.
  15. No More Neighbour Connection Arrows

I have the previous file and like it a lot. This is a perfect plugin for CJ keepers. It is good to know that this is here.
  16. Being a heretic and playing with CAM/SPAM combination, too dense R is the last thing I want. I like to create large regions with moderate or high polulation, but avoiding highest density residential lots. My highest tile is currently 650 000 and that is quite enough, unless I am going to fill 2-3 large tiles with farms. - Ilja I am still unsure if my next - planned to be CJ - region is going to be CAM, SPAM or combination gameplay. Nobody want's to see 40 pages of fields, but nobody wants to see (or play) 20 pages of default fields either...
  17. That is a matter of region layout. I have built a CBD in to a small city tile, altough I usullay use only large city tiles. Avenues don't mean a thing at alone. You have to remember that connected tiles share common demand factors, but they really don't share any definite information with each other. Avenues allow you to raise demand caps, but zoning, demand and region layout are equally importan. Your city won't grow beyond caps, but caps won't get tested withoud demand.
  18. Quick note about the heavy rail. I am playing with large tiles and still had to demolish all but 1 station from each connected tile, because HR stress became too heavy for my capital city. I suggest that peoples having a problem with trains could visit Helsinki (Finland) and region related to it with Goolge Earth, or similar program. You will get a basic understanding how to get your HR congested. Just keep buildingthat GRL after that. They didn't think to extend it beyond Helsinki city borders in Finland. :kitty:
  19. blue tiles

Did understand correctly, that you are trying to modify original lots? Unfortunately that won't work. If you wish to fix this problem your self, then you will have to re-lot all signs. You can place props to standard Maxis grass lots and then edit those lots with Reader. - I
  20. blue tiles

Transparent lots can be done without the waterbug. In this case they have used the wrong way and that causes the bug. Changing the view simply hides the problem for awhile, and does not permanently fix it. You might ask if _marsh_ would be willing to fix those lots. Instructions for creating transparent lots can be found at least from SimPeg4 Simposium: Creating Lots With Transparent Textures
  21. Crashes to Desktop

I presume that this type of misinformation is (mostly) coming from digital game clients like Origin and Steam. All kinds of hogwash passes as a "fact" there and spreds to other sites and forums. I have tried to send confused players to these community forums to get their facts and answers straight. So if you guys happen to stroll around Steam and find adorable panda called "Ref", just smile and I promise not to bite you. - Ilja
  22. Hello, Beholden. I am glad to see that you brought this conversation to Simtropolis from Steam forums. Here we have more peoples and resources to review all information. As said, I can not personally test this method. I am certain that there are others who can. - Ilja (Ref)
  23. How is your freight getting out?
  24. Teehee. This sounds familiar. I have been working with my new CJ for a while. I have been downloading and modding and lotting (...and waiting for others to finish their own projects, so I can wrap my greasy fingers around the spoils of their hard work...), but had very little time for playing. The whole process is slow, to say the least.
