  1. 1 Million Citizens

Here you go: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/109072/what-is-the-formula-for-converting-population-to-residential-agents-workers-sh/109073#109073 I haven't tried it yet. Still getting used to the game. Steam workshop link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406841580
  2. 1 Million Citizens

there's already a mod to fudge the numbers. Actually, pretty much everything everyone complained about has been modded in already. I owuld say 90% of what people want. The rest will come soon. I know OP wasn't talking about multiplying the numbers, but wanted to menti0on this since someone else did.
  3. Question and some concerns.

Laptops tend to default to the built in graphics chip of the processor. Make sure you are using the discrete graphics chip(assuming you have one).
  4. Back agin..Is it worth it yet

Reporting back in. I have to be honest here. As much as I complained earlier, I find myself compelled to come back and play the game over and over again. I'm actually having fun and once I started understanding how everything works, it tends to get better and lasts longer. Is it great? In some ways, but it still has a boatload of shortcomings. It's not Simcity 5. One thing I didn't realize the first few days is how integrated the cities are in the same region. Because of that, it makes the game a little more fun. Setting up things in one region helps other regions. I could see how playing with friends would make it even more fun. So, I retract some of my negativity. I guess if you don't expect Simcity 5, tone down your high expectations, the game can be fun for what it is. I don't think it's worth $40. I bought it for $20. Anyway, just trying to be honest and admit hwere I was wrong.
  5. Back agin..Is it worth it yet

In a word...frustrating. I just bought it a few days ago. Yes, it's playable. I have some bugs, such as roads disappearing into the hillside and elsewhere. But nothing seems to break. The real problem is the size. There is simply not enough room to do anything. I mean, it's really small. Forget thinking about expanding. You have no chopice but to specialize in something. The RCI concept is thrown out the window. Yes, you can do RCI, but it's literally minutes and the map is full. It's like having a bad ass sports car but you can only drive it around one square block. Everything is repetitive. You are bored to tears after minutes. You'll finish one city and quickly move onto the next. I keep thinking it's going to get better, but it doesn't. This game is the definition of insanity. Insanity = doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Until the space limit is increased, this game is not worth the money IMHO. And even when that happens, it is still debatable. There are still no terraforming tools, low/med/high wealth is determined by which road is placed, big buildings take up a massive amount of valuable space. I know some people will have a problem with this, but CitiesXL is so much better on almost all fronts. Sure, Simcity has some nice things going for it, such as modular add-ons to existing buildings, great simulation mechanics, and more, but you run out of space so fast it is laughable. To me, offline mode is EA's way of saying, "let's bail out of this game now while we still have everyone's money". Now they can stop supporting the game and move on. Also, knowing Simtropolis, this post will get deleted or modified since it isn't "positive". This game could have been everything. But it has been squashed.
  6. It says there you bought the game. I have bought something on Amazon. That does not give me the right to reviews things I haven't bought. Can you tell us how you got your percentage? If not, why should we believe you? From Amazon's customer service page: > Does the reviewer have to buy the item from Amazon.com? No. It doesn't matter where an item was purchased, or if it was a gift, or if the reviewer just borrowed it for a weekend. If someone feels moved to write a review of an item, and they are a registered Amazon.com customer, they are welcome.< /p> Forbes explains it here in this article titled Fake Reviews: Amazon's Rotten Core. I took the number (people can edit their reviews) of Amazon verified users and divided it by the total number of reviews in that ranking. You can count yourself if you'd like. You don't have to believe me, but at least believe Amazon. Are you saying you think someone is paying a bunch of money for people to write hundreds of fake negative reviews? There is a chance some have been payed off. I mean people do get paid to write positive reviews for products. Most of the reviews as I have posted are from people who are angry fanboys, or just angry at EA who had no intent of buying the game. So instead of actually playing and buying the game, said people decided to spout off on Amazon and other sites. The main point is, you don't have to buy the product to post a review. "angry fanboys" need I remind you that we are all posting on a message board exclusively for SimCity. I think that would make us fanboys. thus calling all the negative reviews on amazon "angry fanboys" seems a bit hypocritical. Not really. Those of us who liked the betas and the final game (when we can get it to work), are looked down upon on this board alone (that is putting it nicely). Many of the people who have hated the game from the early days have gone out of their way to target anyone who remotely had anything positive to say about this game. They will continue to do so until the mods finally shut down this board or start banning people. We even had people post threads on this board stating the mods were going out of their way to crush negative opinions to this game and backing those who liked the game. These people derail any and all topics that aren't negative towards EA or the game. I mean there is something wrong with a person when they have that much of an emotional connection to a game (or any product for that matter). I wonder when the Simcity 4 mafia will finally move on with their lives. Is it time to make this site into an exclusive Simcity 4 forums? I tried to post my opinion early on. I even read the rules of the forums. As soon as I posted a couple of things, my posts were changed and I was asked in PM to tone it down, even though I didn't say anything against anyone. I was respectful, courteous, and followed the rules. So yes, I do believe negative opinion was getting crushed. You see, you said, "there is something wrong with a person" which should technically be called out by the mods, but they won't do it. You want to know what I got called out for? I said, "I feel like puking". Yes, that is why my post was changed. I was not trolling, calling anybody names, or anything else, I simply stated my opinion, where as you are saying that all of us with negative attitudes are somehow damaged. So I end with this...I'm happy and sad the game is an utter failure at this point. I truly hope EA learns a HUGE lesson here. They got what they deserved.
  7. Should I Buy Cities XL ?

I think it's worth getting. I don't have any memory leaks. It's not the best "simulation" compared to simcity, but it sure is pretty. Everything looks pretty realistic, enough mods to keep me happy, huge maps, etc...I don't understand why so many people complain about this game. IMHO, it's 10x better than Simcity 2013.
  8. Just wondering if there are any people out there who were more on the pessimistic side, but couldn't help buy the game? If you did, what are your thoughts now? Do you feel the same? Is there anything that surprised you in a positive way? Anything worse than you thought? Now, I know that there have been a ton of problems with the launch. I'm not talking about the server issues, the wait times, bugs, etc...I'm talking about the actual game play.
  9. Interesting. Thanks for your feedback. I only played the beta once and hated it, but I think I'd have the same thoughts as you if I bought it. I really want to like it and buy it, but I just don't see me liking it unfortunately Well, report back once you've had some time with the game. Thanks!
  10. We waited 10 years for this?

Easier way to prove they were lying, turn modem off. The game still plays as it should for a good 20 minutes, traffic flowing finding the correct paths, water/power/sewage all doing as it should.... granted region play won't work but thats only sending a couple numbers every 20 minutes or so. I'm sure people will come up with 3rd party hacks that will respond to DRM queries and server queries which will allow you to continue playing offline indefinitely.
  11. Are you aware that what you're saying is slanderous? Unless you have evidence to back up your allegation, I suggest you don't insult a journalists credibility. I have been a reader of Polygon since its inception, and I can tell you that I have found no other gaming review site as transparent and well written. Just because you disagree with a review is no reason to make baseless accusations. It's a well known industry FACT that reviewers are paid off all the time. He might not be able to tell you exactly which ones are being paid, but we can make educated guesses. I haven't read the polygon review, but I personally trust Ars Technica as a highly reputable sight. They've pretty much said what I've been thinking all along.
  12. I see this game failing. They took most of the fun out of it. You can't even save a game. That means I'll be stressed out instead of relaxing and enjoying myself which is one of the many reasons I liked past sim cities. It's funny, I hear the cheerleaders saying how they are sick of all of the negative people on these threads. Well, I'm sick of all of the positive people on these threads. It's comical to listen to people try and make this game sound better than it is. I bought Cities XL Platinum for $4.99(since I already owned Cities XL 2011) and I've been having a blast. Sure, it's got it's own shortcomings, but at least I can pretty much do what I want. I think Ars's review sums up what we've all been saying all along, which is, this game is just too small, too many restrictions, and bogged down with EA economics(read: trying to figure out the maximum way to take our money). The other thing I've learned by reading the reviews is that they made the simulation too realistic. Most game companies learned early on that if you make something too realistic, you end up taking out the fun of playing a game. That's exactly what happened here, they took the fun part out.
  13. Expansion packs for SimCity

Hopefully it will be things that will make we want to buy the game at some point. Things such as terraforming, bigger cities, hills(lol), you know, core components
  14. Well, I guess saying "I want to puke" and telling someone to "stop cheerleading for EA" is considered insulting another person and I've been censored by the simtropolis police. So, I will publicly say that I'm sorry if I offended anyone even if I don't agree with the accusations. I can't, in good conscience continue to post here for being censored for the above, so have fun everyone, I'm out...
  15. SimCity: Terraforming

  16. There most certainly won't be a monthly fee. As far as modding goes, keep in mind, modding for SimCity 4 wasn't available on day one. It took some time before those were released. The team understands the importance of modding, though. I can tell you that. HI Maxis_MD, Thanks for joining the thread and verifying there will be no monthly fee. I realize modding wasn't available on day one for SC4. Are you purposely being vague about whether or not modding will be available at a later date? Are you restricted from telling us for now? Can you just tell us if it will be available or not? It would go a long way to putting to rest some of the complaints and the uproar in the community. Again, I know you are coming to a hostile envirnment and I want to say that we appreciate that, though it may not seem obvious from some of the comments
  17. Is dificult believe that even the Simcity new (If have what was seen in the videos) will run on minimum specifications disclosed. Guess I'll put have something more powerful in my desk ... If I do not like of the game keep him to a new version of the CXL, who knows .... Do I think the glassbox engine will hold up to current hardware? Yes I do. I built an i920 system almost 3 years ago. I was going to upgrade when IvyBridge came out, but it really wasn't worth it for a nominal speed bump. So systems from 3 years ago(assuming i-core processors) with video cards from the last year, should run this game just fine. Hell, most game focus on the video card and much less load is placed on the CPU. if they actually code for multi-core processors, the simulation should be good. not too mention 64-bit which generally improves games by about 10%. Too bad it's gonna suck and the servers will disappear after 2 or so years. Not to mention they monthly fees I am betting they will charge or if not monthly fees, than micro charges for DLC. There is of course a problem with #2. If most of the feedback is negative about a game, how many of you are willing to pay to try it? I know I am not. When I go looking for a new game, I do read reviews...not the 'professional' reviews, but the reviews of actual people who played the game. If the overall reviews from players are bad, then its a no sale...why waste my money on something I am likely to dislike? If EA/Maxis doesn't do something to sooth the negative feelings of the player base, then it will hurt their sales...not just from the old time fans who won't buy it, but also from perspective customers who see all the negative reviews and opt to pass it by. And my fear is that if/when the new SimCity flops, it is the end of the series, as EA is unlikely to try again if it doesn't make money. A bad release can destroy an otherwise good game series. I generally don't buy games that have less than 90 on metacritic. Cities XL received a 69, CXL2011 received a 70 and CXL2012 received a 61. Simcity 2013 has a lot to overcome. My guess is it will receive an 80-84 or there about. Not because it will deserve it, but some "fans" won't be able to let there bias go. Don't forget about the paid for reviews by EA. Yes reviewers are compensated for good reviews.
  18. For those of you that haven't heard, EA has decided to make SWTOR free-to-play, which is good news for Simcity because it means that they likely won't decide to charge a monthly fee. The bad news is that they might decide to charge for smaller stuff or features such as building packs or transit systems or whatever, maybe even terraforming down the road. I personally don't like the FTP model. I want to pay all of my money up front and do what I want with the game later. They already want $60 for the game up front, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  19. I think the answer is slowly coming into view. They want to make Simcity subscription based maybe? Maximum profit gain. that's really the only way they can make Simcity affordable for them to make and keep expensive servers running. I ho[pe I'm wrong about the subscription. God I hope I'm wrong....
  20. I respectfully disagree. I am a "casual" SimCity player. I usually ignore the complainers because it's usually about nothing significant. Bugs get fixed, features get added and complainers mostly go away. This time, however, I'm the complainer. Why? Because the two things that most people feel is CORE to the game has been removed. Terraforming and Single Player. I can live with all of the other BS such as Origin(which I despise BTW), can't make my own roads to neighboring cities, and some other things. I can even live without single player to an extent. The GlassBox Engine is AMAZING! The potential is unreal. But mark my words. The simple fact that this game will be played on servers means the servers will either go away within a few years and you will have a dead game or they will start micro charging you for new "map packs" or "features"(read: bug fixes). Hell, I'm half convinced they are going to charge right out of the gate, but I hope I'm wrong. How do you think the servers will get paid for over time? EA has already proven they will pull servers that aren't making money, so start praying Simcity makes money or we are all SOL. EA doesn't care about anything except making money. EA has ruined many games over the years. EA is on the path of destruction with this game. Sadly, I think the developers are super excited about the engine and the game, but are being held back by upper management, politics and money. So you are saying that we have too much high hopes riding on this game yet you say all we want is Simcity 4 redone. That's a tad contradicting don't you think? I just want what I would consider must have features and I would be willing to let the cards lie where they may, but they can't even get the core features right. And yes, of course we have high hopes, this is Simcity! One of the best games ever made. How can we not have high hopes? And to some degree, yes a lot of people probably want it like Simcity 4 or at least similar because it is loved by many and has withstood the test of time. But the Glassbox engine is so awesome, that just seeing what it could do made me feel like I didn't have to worry about anything else. I guess I was wrong. Like everyone, I'll be watching and waiting and praying that they make a liar out of me. I'll be the first to stand up and say I was wrong and the game is great. Whew! If you got through all of that, then I apologize for ranting for so long
  21. SimCity: Terraforming

Yes, its a shame to see terraforming go, but think of the alternative. In Cities XL, your not given large scale terraforming, but you are given an amazing map- that has its own water color, climate, plants and shrubs, and ground textures. It allows you to recreate a city in a dessert, tropical island, wild west, icy mountains, or in a grassy field. In SimCity, terraforming allowed your own mountians and terrain, but shrubs and bushes, climate, watercolor, and ground textures were generally all the same- green grassy lands, with oak forests, and light blue water. And i don't know about you, but those CXL maps last along time. I've only gone through about 5 after playing the game for 2 years. If Maxis made maps- I'm sure they will look much better than terraformed maps, just due to the fact that they are professionally made, and may include those aspects such as climate, water color, textures, etc. Online play & the cloud is actually something that I really like. Its much more convenient. But- I always have that lingering thought in the back of my head "Servers down", or when EA turns them off for good- because it costs too much to maintain. And Single player is in the game- but your still online. You can just lock the region, play by yourself- although you still will be included into the leaderboards [which I don't care much about]. They also said you have the ability to invite a friend later if you want to. I honestly thought you were being sarcastic at first when you said, Cities XL "gives you an amazing map". The problem is, terraforming is just plain fun! That's what games are supposed to be about, right? FUN! No terraforming takes some of the fun away. One time I made a triple decker highway in Simcity. They ran on top of each other on the side a cliff. Why did I do this? Becasue I could! Because I was given the freedom to do as I please. I like to just sit and come up with crazy ideas with the landscape. So not having terraforming takes at least %30 of the fun out of the game for me. 30%! And see, even you have concerns about the servers disappearing. EA is not above turning servers off. They have done it with other games. I refuse to install Origin. I didn't buy Mass Effect 3 because of this bloatware & Spyware(Origin). EA is jsut pushing everything to the limit to see how much the consumer will take before backing out. Well, I'm backing out. Screw them! I actually considered installing origin just for Simcity, but it's starting to become not worth it. OK, when I say single player, I mean no internet connection where I can sit in my baement with the lights out with lots of alcohol, in my underwear, OCD'ing on Simcity. Being sarcastic I don't think my wife and kid would like to see my like that The only possible saving grace would be they allow offline mode and terraforming at a later date. A promise wouldn't be good enough though. I'd have to see it with my own eyes. I don't see this happening since I think they need the servers to do some of the simulation and they set up the engine in a way where terraforming would break other parts of the game.
  22. SimCity: Terraforming

Hey everyone. I'm usually the guy that sits quietly behind my computer and reads all of the threads of people freaking out. I laugh to myself because it's usually about nothing significant. The game comes out and then most people like it and the complainers get less and less as bugs get fixed, features get added, etc... Sadly, I am the complainer today. One of the best games in history is being dumbed down for maximum financial gain. How sad the world has come to when corporations are just robot overlords of the employees to simply make lots of money. The passion is gone. Sure, you can tell that the developers are excited about the engine. It's a really nice engine and has lots of potential. But seriously? No terraforming? WTF!? I keep hoping I wake up from my nightmare. I play CitiesXL just to pass the time, but sometimes it drives me insane because it's the same maps. After hearing there is no terraforming, it will get boring very quickly. I really hope EA is reading these threads because I will wait until the reviews come out and won't spend a dime on this game if it sucks. At the end of the day, it's just game and since I'm older, I have a lot more patience than I used to have, so I can go to my grave knowing I already played the best versions of the game. I can't help but mention the other big problem, which is, everything in the cloud. EA will start to lose money and drop this game like a bad habit. What a shame. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted you to pay for extra content. They have to support the servers somehow. And last, no single player? wow... I will continue to watch like everyon else, but it doesn't look good.
