  1. Anyone else lost interest?

I'm starting to lose insterest. With all the issues and the extremely small map size, it seems I build my city to a certain point and then I really don't want to go any further. For one, I like building cities with lots of open area filled with parks and creative layouts. Doing this in the current SC, I get to a point where I feel like my city is finally just starting to take shape, but then I realize "no, this city is done, because I have now run out of room and I don't want to increase density." Then if I do build a "city" to the unrealisticly high population density that this game encourages, my city turns into a big traffic jam and the only things I do from then on are deal with bugs that cause my city to run poorly. I still enjoy a bit of play now and again though. The core mechanics seem to be a good concept, they just need better routing for traffic and to fix the RCI. If every "agent" could pre-plan it's route, I think it would alleviate a lot of the traffic problems. Then instead of sims just funneling off to the next nearest home every time, they could have a set destination before their trip even starts. That way they will drive directly to their destination, causing a lot of them to naturally select different routes and eliminating all the queing that causes all the traffic issues. I think this game still has the potential to be great, it's just a matter of whether they will stick with it till it gets to that point. I sure hope they do, because I really don't want to have to go back to SC4 again.
  2. Simcity Annouces Beta!

They will send out e-mails whenever they decide to start sending them. I'm sure no one has received an e-mail yet. We don't even know when they plan to start the beta, or if they have even picked a date yet.
  3. I didn't hear anything about them saying Sim City would be monetized for a monthly revenue, but if they do charge monthly, I will not be purchasing the game. DLC releases to buy every month would be a much better idea. As long as the are reasonably priced anyways. That way I can go without buying them, because I would rather spend my money on other things and not have to spend money on video games every month.
  4. Fully Featured Solo Offline Play Mode

I will probably still get it. Although, I will be VERY dissapointed if there is not a fully featured offline mode. I want to be able to play on my laptop when I'm not home and have no connection.
  5. Ads or not, I sure hope they don't plan on charging a monthly rate to play. I agree with the general consensus though. As long as they are implemented in a realistic fashion, then I'm all for it. Then when you click on one with the regular pointer(or maybe the query tool), it could open your browser for you to check out the product/service it is advertising.
  6. Graphics Rendering

Haven't knowingly used OpenGL since the first Driver game came out. Seemed to do a fairly good job of graphics rendering too. If I remember correctly, it also improved my graphical experience with other games I played at the time. So considering that experience, Opengl sounds like the way to go.
  7. Cities XL 2011 75% off on Steam!

Damn, I will have to watch for sales on it more often. I want to get it, but don't really feel like paying full price for it. Mostly because I feel it will let me down in areas that I really enjoyed about SC4. Would definitely give it a try for less then ten bucks though.
  8. Are you going to buy Cities XL?

I'll buy it when having schools effects your citizens intelligence, and then effects many other aspects of the city as well. Then that all has to happen as the city evolves over time, by some buildings being demolished for new improved or denser development after re-zoning. A school simply making people "happy", simply does not make me "happy".
  9. The Planet Offer (Includes POLL)

I'm guessing you would get all the updates you missed. It would cause problems and confusion if everyone online was using different updates. That's the way every online game is. Updates should be available to single player non-subscribers. If they really aren't going to support non-subscribing players, then that is very shady and I don't think I'll be buying the game. Just because they wanted to release an unfinished game, shouldn't mean we must give them more money to obtain updates that will complete/fix the game. I've wanted an online city builder for a long time. The only problem is, this isn't how I imagined it at all. I'll stick around in hopes that there will be improvements worthy enough to get me to purchase the game. Right now; However, it is lacking most of what I would want in a city builder. Please MC, make me a believer.
  10. I can see the possibility of doing this being removed in a patch. That or altered in a way that you can't exploit it like described by Knightrider. So take advantage of it while you still can.
  11. Simulation? Plop? Game? Where is the line drawn???

Reading all this really makes me want to play some SC4. I refuse to play a "MMO Simulator" that is hardly a MMO and especially not a simulator to any real degree. It's just mindless plopping. Then if you forget to plop a school, business, etc... It will tell you about how sad people are about it. So just go plop one and continue on your merry way. It's like they looked at SC4, and completely ignored what made it good. Then they took mechanics from games that didn't even go over very well, and made one game and crammed the MMO in there along with it. Sure I would have loved to visit other peoples cities in SC4. Trading services, planning transport between the cities, and being able to communicate with other "Mayors" would make that game even better. Unfortunately, CXL didn't even attempt to hit that mark. Sure, they got in the general area. They just wanted to take a shot, they don't seem like they actually cared to aim at all.
  12. A challenge to the SC4 fanatics!

CXL SHOULD be just as good or better then SC4. I could care less if the content is lacking, or if there are a few quirks. These aren't just a few quirks with some lacking content. They are huge issues with core features completely missing. I didn't even get far enough in the Demo to realize some of the road and building upgrade problems. Those are some issues that I don't want to have to deal with though. The Demo didn't catch my interest enough to make me want to take time out of my day to get the most out of the 7 day trial. There is huge potential, but there are still major issues that need to be sorted out. Issues that should delay the game from being released. Who knows, maybe they will "wow" us with the amount of changes they do before release. I'm just not that optimistic of a person though, especially not with what I've seen so far. I want this game to succeed so badly, that I MIGHT still buy it and pay the monthly fee in hopes that things will get better.
  13. Why Not Delay the Release of CXL?

Delay the game and have a 'pay to play' beta to help cover further production costs, Then everyone can still play and help finish the game at the same time. When the game is released, people will gladly purchase the game and want to pay all these fees that may be included. All because they would know it's a quality game that they helped perfect. Right now, everyone will have have to take a blind, leap of faith. Support them by buying the game, and hope they stick around to finish the game that's already been released. I'm not sure if I'm ready to do that. I know some are, and I support you all the way. I want this game to be a success just as much as anyone else. I just don't have the kind of money to throw at a game(with monthly charges), just to hope that it succeeds. If not, I'm left with basically nothing. Not unless somehow we were able to modify it like SC4.
  14. Demo version released ~ For all those that can't wait

They have a LONG way to go if they plan on releasing a decent game. Seven days for the demo is a joke too. They could at least let you play the very limited demo until release. Then you could follow the updates that could possibly make the game worthwhile. Instead, the people that get into the demo early, see this very unfinished game and lose interest. Then they forget about the game between the end of the trial and the games release. I really, really hope they can save this game from failure.
  15. Zoneing houses...bad result :(

I was immediately disappointed by this. It is very unrealistic. the lots should form wedge shapes like in real life. It makes for a lot of wasted space the way they did it. It also looks kind of sloppy.
