  1. Water Flora Mod

Sweet! How did I live without this? Great idea, great execution. A must-have.
  2. BRF Washington DC Metro ElSubPassenger Rail Matched Set

MAD-TV: I've looked at many pics on the web, and I see the destination sign on the front above the door, and a little placard in the window showing the train's "color," - both too small to be seen in game - but no "Metro" logo. Maybe they have two different paint schemes?
  3. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

Apologies for the double-post - different topic than before. Updated GO Transit set is now on the STEX. You can find it, and all my mods on the STEX, by searching for BRF or clicking the link below: https://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=all&Str=BRF Or jump directly to the GO Set: https://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Prop&Str=BRF%20GO%20Transit%20Passenger%20Train%20Set Changes: * Fixed slight mis-alignment of texture on engine nose. * Fixed scale of car ends to match the prototype. * Fixed rough edges on cars. * Added extra coach car and locomotive. * Added extra bonus 30th Anniversary coach car.
  4. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

I'll take a look at the GNER. I have a passenger request thread going here: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=49485 I do follow that thread, and update the first post with progress reports every few days. I haven't been as chatty as usual lately, because my plate is brimming over with new projects and old ones to improve. I'm in Less talk, more do! mode. A while back you asked how I do these so quickly. The answer is, standard parts. I have built up a library of doors, windows, basic car shapes, and so on, so I can assemble the skins in a cut/paste assembly-line fashion (just like the real car manufacturers do!). Then it's just a matter of searching the model railroad fan sites for images of the car, so I can get the unique paint and detail correct. Sometimes there are schematic diagrams out there which are very useful, since I'm really art challenged and do these in a CAD/CAM sort of way! Since most N American railcars are made by a small number of manufacturers (Budd, Pullman, or Bombardier mostly) and are variations on standard designs, once I've made the first model and skin for a new car type, the different road names can be made very rapidly.
  5. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

Date:5/13/2004 4:01:24 PM Author:chunkymon24490 Railways in SC4 have always been dissapointing and unrealistic. They need electricity! I know u can get this as a thing from SCC, but we need Vrigin Pendolinos and voyagers, TGVs, Eurostars, Bullets, GNERs, and at the top- normal sized city stations! 15 platforms at least in a city station and shops...etc. PLEASE....I am so tired of lousy railways quote> Check out Oppie's work. He made a lot of the trains you mentioned. I know he's done TGV and Eurostar, and many others. Here's a quick-link: http://www.simcitycentral.net/files/index.php?category=9
  6. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

I have just posted Washington, DC Metro trains on the STEX: https://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Prop&Str=BRF%20Washington%20DC%20Metro%20ElSubPassenger%20Rail%20Matched%20Set This is a matched set of elevated, subway, and surface rail cars, so you can see Metro running everywhere it should. The set also contains replacement locomotives that look just like regular Metro cars, to complete the effect. Since it's impossible to have el trains run on surface rail, this is the next best thing. If you can't make it, fake it. I left the files as individual pieces instead of a single super-file, so you can replace only those transit types you want to. These are original replacement files, and can be used with the extra cars from my other sets if you want to do that. It would look very odd I think, but it's player's choice.
  7. Version 3

    7,965 Downloads

UPDATE to Version 3 (24 May 04): * Fixed problem with first subway car not drawing correctly. * Widened car spacing slightly to look better. * Simplified packaging for easier use and smaller file sizes. * Added extra cars to mix with other sets If you have a previous version, remove it completely and use these files instead. Here is a matched set of original-replacement passenger, elevated, and subway cars in DC Metro colors. Now your Sims can ride the same trains on surface rail as they do on elevated rail and in subways. There are five files in the set, one to replace every kind of passenger rail car and engine in the game with a Metro car. You can use all the files, just the elevateds and subways, or any combination you like. You can even have regular locomotives pull Metro cars, if you want to. It's up to you. All cars have night lighting, and are UDI-enabled where applicable. There are no dependencies, and the files do not depend on each other. These cars replace the original Maxis equipment, and can be used at the same time as any of the "Extra" cars and locomotives from my other sets. [This would be very strange, but it's your game.]
  8. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

Trolca: I wrote to Dirk yesterday asking for write access to the mods section so I could upload my own set updates. He told me that they're working on moving the mods over to the STEX, and that I should just upload them there as prop mods, because that's what they are. Makes sense to me. By breaking the sets into individual road-name packages it'll make it easier to track down bugs, I think. Also we won't have to force people to download multi-meg files to get a few fixes. Seems like a good idea. Morhavoc: Unless you install a hundred or more of these add-ons, you'll likely not see any performance problems. Crashing is virtually impossible unless I make a terrible mistake. Oh, and the Long Trains mod I made limits passenger trains to 12 cars, I think.
  9. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

I have improved the Amtrak California set and added Pacific Surfliner trains. The files are now available on the STEX, here: https://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Prop&Str=BRF%20Amtrak%20California%20Passenger%20Train%20Set Future train sets will be releases as Prop Mods on the STEX, at Dirk's request. This will make them smaller, faster to download, and easier to update.
  10. BRF Amtrak California Passenger Train Set

No dependencies. All files are completely self-contained.
  11. BRF Amtrak California Passenger Train Set

Morhavoc: These shouldn't slow down your game. The models are not much more complex than the Maxis models. Most of the detail is in the texture skins, which are pre-built.
  12. Version 3.01

    9,063 Downloads

UPDATE to Version 3.01 (28-05-2004): * Improved paint and night-lighting on locomotives * Re-scaled and repackaged set to match my other ver. 3 work Something old, someting new, something borrowed, something blue: Amtrak California Pacific Surfliner and Capital Corridor/San Joaquin passenger train sets. I have re-worked the Amtrak California set I released earlier in the forums, to have better wheels and car-ends, and more realistic top window placement. I have also added a set in "Pacific Surfliner" colors. Each scheme contains: * An original-replacement locomotive to replace the Maxis one * An extra locomotive that can be used in addition to any others * An original-replacement passenger car to replace the Maxis one * A set of extra passenger cars that can be used with any others There are a total of five cars per color scheme, each with unique night lighting. Files should be placed in your Maxis plugins folder. Use only one of the original-replacement files at a time. The extra cars and locomotives have been designed to avoid conflicts with any other sets, so they can be used at the same time as any other passenger set you may use. Trolca and I coordinate to ensure that our sets will work together. Credits to: Trolca, for the base models, teaching me how to mod trains, and generally being a great guy. Dearnen for base models, support and encouragement. iLive and DarkMatter for the tools that make it possible. And of course, Dirk and Maxis for the great site and the great game.
  13. Date:5/11/2004 3:06:44 AM Author:kassarc16 Nice to know you're still here. A little off-topic but since you mentioned it, what've you been up to with the modding? And also, you have an idea of what frieght trains run in the Southwest, for my upcoming CJquote> I'm learning the more advanced use of SC4Path files, trying to make switches that actually work, single-track rail, and to put curves and intersections on lots that actually work for UDI and civic vehicles. Plus anything else BSC Team needs. As for the Southwest, the high desert out there is the land of the mile-long Santa Fe freights.
  14. Hi all; Apologies for the lull in production over here. I've been working with the BATT Squad and learning how to modd the transit networks. I have just finished re-working some of my older sets (Caltrain, BN, and Metra) to include some of the improvements that came with the Superliner set, and fix a few shortcomings in the transparencies. An updated Train Set including all my completed work will be posted shortly. The Metroliners will not be in the set, as they need to be re-made. Now I'm working on elevated models to get the modern light rail systems made (Metro North, DC Metro, DART, Singapore, and so on). I'll keep you posted on progress. Someone from the Washington, D.C. area: when did Metro stop painting the red/white/blue stripes on the ends of the trains?
  15. GE Freight Station

Great work, Gemika, this one most definitely has a home in my plugins folder! Two very enthuisiastic thumbs up!
  16. Train Mods

I'd like to see you finish up the SD unit model you're making, and then widen the nose to make one of those cab units (the ones with the front cab like a passenger engine, the back like a normal freight), then go back to fixing up some older cars. The latter locomotive might be a selfish interest, because then I could put Amtrak Pepsi Can paint on it. I've been playing with making such a loco, but your SD would be the better starting point. I seem to have done the same thing to make six-wheel trucks, too. No sense reinventing each other's wheels. You have so many cars out that redoing the older ones all at once could get bo-ring fast. So maybe bounce back and forth, a few here and there, until they're done, then re-release the train set? Just some thoughts.
  17. New Passenger Rail Arrives!

There was a bug in one of the files in my Amfleet cars, that caused the models to jump around and made the game run badly. Fixed file attached, just let it overwrite the old one. A big Thank You (and a bunny) to TrainManR5 for helping track this one down. Thanks, TMr5! Here's your bunny.
  18. MTNH TramTrain Station

I like it, especially the little "pedway" over the railroad. Very nice. Can't we just plop a Roadtop Subway station in front of it to get subway, and plop a parking garage if we want one? Do-everything lots are a bit inflexible to my taste. Just my opinion.
  19. Train Mods

I just sent TrainMan a PM about his train problem, to keep the static down here. If it turns out to be a bug I'll post a report. EDIT: Trolca, TrainMan may have found something here. The RiverHaven Auto Transport car in your latest Train Set release may conflict with passenger cars. I don't know if it's the problem Trainman is having, but it's a problem. I'll PM you the details. DOUBLE-EDIT: the Auto-carriers weren't the problem. It was a bug in my Amfleet Extra car set. Thanks to Trainman for discovering and reporting it.

Date:5/7/2004 4:56:15 PM Author:trainmanr5 [Heavily snipped by BRF] Are these in the exchange? I would love to sink my teeth into that amtrack train set. Where did those dirt roads in the pictures come from, with the wooden crossbucks? I really love your work though, espicially the Amtrak trainsets and the other passenger sets. If there is a way to have longer freight trains with piggy back cars please find it. PS. How's the Acela project coming along for you? quote> Where to start... Trolca's custom train sets are available for download in the Mods section. Just click the Mods link on the left sidebar, and scoll down until you see Newest 10 Prop/Automata sets. Download Trolca's Train Set RH. It has just about everything T-man has done in it. The dirt roads are also in the Mods section. Follow the link below and look for Trolca's Street Modd https://www.simtropolis.com/modfiles/content.cfm?section=mods If you like Amtrak, say hello to some killer Superliners. Check out my thread: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=48466 Everything before Amtrak California is in the Mods section, just below Trolca's set. Finally, I have a mod that makes freight trains longer. It's available here: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=47496 The file to download is the one attached to the last post. There are a few issues which can be discovered by reading the thread. Enjoy!

Neat, my own railroad has its own boxcars! Thank you Trolca! I don't mind the last one; I'm always up for a good cheeky joke. In fact, I'm trying to figure out what you could do to make me mad... you'd have to be really trying hard at it to do that, as I will assume that you mean things the nice way. I appreciate the sensitivity though. The text on it seems a little busy to my eye, though, too much crammed in to too small a space I think. Perhaps just Not Red. Not Fish. Big on Shipping. would fit better? Or even just Big on Shipping? Just a suggestion - you tend to have a good sense of aesthetics on your own. I really like the weathering on the striped ones. If you were going to re-work any of them (at your leisure and discretion), I wouldn't mind seeing that effect on the others too. EDIT: Don't worry if I've been a bit silent lately; Real Life has intruded a bit this week and forced me to re-synchronise with normal waking hours. If I ever have an issue with you, I'll politely PM you about it.

Here's the engine I use in my cities; I post it here as this is the freight thread. Orignial-replacement and steam-replacement versions attached. To me the BRF means Big Red Fish, but to you maybe it could be Brownsville Rail Freight or Billings, Ralston & Farmsworth, or perhaps even Big Railroad (Fictitious). The posibilities are limited only by your vocabulary!

Scale or not, that is one gorgeous map! A person could build a really good-looking region on a map like that...

Date:5/4/2004 4:48:00 AM Author:kassarc16 Hey BigRedFish, any progress on new sets?quote> *kicks dirt* Um, er, no. Any idea what I should do next though? I'm thinking either finish the Amtrak California set and the Metroliners and then release a Amtrak Super-Set for the Mods section, or else try to get the Metro North cars made and take off in an elevated-rail direction. What do you think, K-man?
