timcravey: We need more people like Carl Sagan, especially nowadays. Thank you for the comment

"We were nomads, and we are still nomads" Carl Sagan Sims in an intelligent specie with plenty of curiosity and needs for exploration and new adventures. Their ancestors explored Earth and now the history repeats, this time on a new world. But why? Why we should colonize Mars? For the same reason that the ancient Sims explored and colonize Europe, Asia and Africa. For the same reason that some Sims dare to explored and colonized the New World. For the same reason that Sims explored all the Terran seas, and now are ready to explore a new sea. The Cosmic Sea! Earth was suffered with terrible problems. Global warming, Aids, nationalism, nuclear weapons, many of big problems. Some Sims prefer to stay on Earth and rebuild the home planet. Other prefer to leave Earth and build from scratch a new, better world on Mars. But why? Exploration, better economy, scientific studies, the joy of a new adventure, the creation of the Utopia, spreading the beauty of life elsewhere, survive of Simkind in longterm... many reasons to build our dreams on Mars. But why on Mars? Why not on the Moon or in the Terran oceans? Because Mars is the most suitable to support life with the technology of the middle of the 21st century. Mercury and Venus are too hot and too close to the Sun. Terran seas can easily bring psychological problems to the colonists. Moon has no atmosphere, but still it soon became the biggest spaceport ever made so far. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune has no solid surface and the conditions there are too deadly. Mars however has atmosphere, 24 hours days and nights, a bit cold but not extremely cold, good enough gravity and almost close to Earth. Also, Mars has plenty of cool features to explore. Olympus Mons is the largest mountain in the Solar System. 3 times taller that the Terran Everest! Valles Marineris is the largest canyon it the Solar System. 10 times longer than the Terran Grand Canyon!! Ancient natural canals, evidence that Mars had water in the past. Exotic mountains. Ice, enough to support the new colonies. And plenty of mysteries. If Mars had water, what about life? Was Mars the home world of ancient intelligent species? What's going on with Cydonia and those exotic formations? Close to Acidalia Planitia we'll find the first Martian colony, Hope-1. A colony rich of hopes for a better future. Thanks to the robotic workers, the creation and expansion of the colonies are very fast. More Sims are coming to town. There are many questions about Mars, but this is the most important. Will be Mars the new Garden of Eden? Is it possible to build the always dreamed Utopia on a cold, desert planet? Had those Sims right, when they said that Mars is the next planetary homeland? Stay tuned The whole Mayor Diaries is a tribute to Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996), the man who mixed science with poetry

Update 18: To the Martian heavens!
Terring commented on Terring's City Journal Entry in Eden: The New Frontier
TowerDude: Glad to see that you like it Mikeaut1: Thanks -
Check your comments for my replies Update 18: To the Martian heavens! "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Shelley, Percy Bysshe Before the update, the useless fact of the day Most of the fictional planetary systems in Science Fiction has a beautiful colourful background, like a galaxy or a nebula. Sadly, our Solar System is not that interesting. So I decide to download some nebulas from Celestia Motherlode and spice up the Solar System. The Solar Nebula is totally fictional, but it will make the space pictures more interesting. For now, all the Celestia pictures of planets and spacecrafts will contain nebulas. Here is an example O.K., back to the update. Today I'll show you the skyscrapers of planet Mars. Building taller and taller buildings was something very common on planet Earth, from the legendary Tower of Babel... ... to the modern Burj Khalifa. In the beginning of the 20th century, a new kind of buildings appears in the blue prints. This time we are not talking about buildings as buildings, but as little self-contained cities. Those structures named "vertical cities" or "arcologies", large buildings that works like mini cities. The main goal of those buildings is the reducing the environmental impacts of overpopulation by reducing the size of the cities. Earth, Moon and Mars has their own strategies to solve this problem. SimTerrans preferred the colonization of the seas, buildings underwater and floating cities. SimLunars constructed underground cities, to protect themselves from the dangers of the vacuum space. The low gravity of Mars however encouraged the SimMartians to build really tall arcologies, as you can see in previous pictures. The beginning was made by the minorgies, minor arcologies that had all the comfort they need. A minorgy looks like a large apartment building, but it also had some civil services and mini shops. They was not exactly mini cities, but still it was a good start. With more and more Sims settled on Mars, SimMartians need more and more room to build their cities. But if you build upward, you'll solve your problem. So they did it, building the arcoruses. An arcorus is an 1 mile (1,6 kilometers) hight tower, made by the best materials. They has magnetic elevators and mini rail roads inside them, as well as beautiful indoor gardens. A newer version of the Martian arcologies are mushparks. A mushpark in a mushroom like building with a central park. This buildings can bring cool views of the city and even more room for the shops and homes, even if it need some less room for the base. Of course this is only the beginning. More arcologies, bigger and cooler, are coming soon. Stay tuned

I'm not sure if Bin Laden is really dead. Why his corpse dropped into the sea? Why the Pakistan and the French media claimed that the pictures of the dead Laden are fake? Why the superior technology of U.S. Army didn't found him all this decade? Is it true that he was a C.I.A. agent? So many questions that makes me sceptical. :|

Update 17: Night on Mars
Terring commented on Terring's City Journal Entry in Eden: The New Frontier
Thank you The super towers hold about 6.000 Sims! That's a lot of Sims -
On the one hand we had the religionist terrorism of Osama Bin Laden. On the other hand we had the military and political terrorism of George Bush. So what's the point? :|

Update 16: It's A Wonderful Life "All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better." Ralph Waldo Emerson This update is mostly a mini teaser about Life-6. This colony is the most dense populated colony and the only one that contain only skyscrapers and apartment buildings. This colony made mostly for Gens, but soon Bals and Cybs moved on Life-6 as well. Life-6 is almost ready, but I need to add some details as well. Oh well, here are some pictures of Life-6...

9988: Thank you nathanthemayor: Glad to see that you like them . As about the skyscrapers, they are not taller versions of ordinary apartment building and skyscrapers. They are arcologies, large buildings that works like mini cities. This is how their interior may look like... Schulmanator: Thank you very much Update 17: Night on Mars "Kill the light! Take them out, turn them off, break them down" Britney Spears Welcome to 2062 A.D. (93 A.T.) One of the most dangerous but still most underestimated kind of pollution is light pollution, caused by the extreme use of artificial lights. Lights are needed, but overusing them brings plenty of social and environmental problems. Light pollution distorts both animals and plants in hunting, mating, growing and moving. It also increase crime, distorts stargazing and consume too much electricity. Even in 2062 A.D. (93 A.T.) the situation on light pollution on Earth isn't so good. There are some tries to reduce this problem, but as you can see... Mars however doesn't have any problem. The use of full cutoff lighting fixtures and better lighting sources, as well as the re-designing lighting plans, reduced to the minimum the light pollution on Mars. The result is almost dark nights. O.K., enough talking. Time for the pictures Gooooodnight Mars! Goodnight everybody and thank you for visiting Eden

This is true, I just would like to know if my addons, like SimMars, will affect negativity (Yes I know, stupid question. But many of my "stupid questions" saved me from difficult situations )

Update 14: A Planet Called "SimMars"
Terring commented on Terring's City Journal Entry in Eden: The New Frontier
Evillions: The black buildings are not from SimMars, they were made by Linkartist 003. -
In the begining... The Update 13 is available on SimPeg and SC4D. It was a simple boring teaser, so let's ignore it Back to Eden Update 14: A Planet Called "SimMars" "O God! I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams" William Shakespeare My most favorite games ever are Simcity and Spore (both by Will Wright and Maxis ). In those games you can create your own universe in a nutshell, full of imagination and as complex as you decide. (Both the above pictures shows mine creations, an ecological city in Simcity 3000 World Edition and my alter-ego civilization in Spore) Simcity 4 is no exception, especially with all those cool custom stuff that allows you to build anything you want. From mountain rural towns to extra large metropolises. From medieval to the future, from Europe to planet Mars. This topic is mostly a showcase of some of my creations for SimMars Beta 3, as well as some interesting pictures from my colonies. Hope that you like them The Martian surface in SimMars is barren. No stones, no rocks, no boulders. Also you can't "plant" rocks like the trees on Simcity. A bit boring, isn't? So i made a collection of lots that covers the barren Martian surface. Now it's possible to add stones, rocks and other items to make the Martian surface more interesting. So many rocks. Perfect place for the native animals to build their nests, especially the Martian bears Those lots can also be very useful as fillers and for the creation of Martian parks. No more empty industrial zones. Now it's possible to fill them, making the industrial places even more nice. So don't surprise if you see skyscrapers next to factories Those lots can also be useful to create visual expansions for the airspaceports runways. The airspaceports on Mars doesn't need miles of runways, but some extra expansion is still welcomed. And to make the Martian surface a bit more interesting, how about trees in mini domes? O.K., before keep going, please read this. Mars reject the Monetary System and established the Resource-Based Economy, where all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. Because of this, there are no rich and poor Sims. However Simcity 4 use the Monetary System, so you need rich and poor Sims. This is unacceptable. So i decide to replace the economical classes with technological classes. $$$ Sims replaced by Cybs, SimMartian with robotics prosthetics. $$ Sims replaced by Bals, a hybrid between Cybs and Gens with both cybernetic and genetic prosthetics. $ Sims replaced by Gens, SimMartians with genetic prosthetics. O.K., back to the update. An another modification in SimMars is the addition of some extra vehicles. SimMars Beta 3 has already a small collection of medium wealth Bal cars, while more vehicles are now under creation. However those medium wealth Bal cars are the only automata on SimMars. So i add some Terran vehicles that fits on Mars as much as possible. The Kewet Buddy fits very nicely on Mars, as the cars of low wealth Gen SimMartians. On the other hand, Koenigsegg CCXR is a great choice for the high wealth Cyb SimMartians. Vandy freight trucks doesn't fit perfectly on Mars, but they are the only trucks that i can use. Finally the roads of the industries are not empty anymore. Need a bus? This double decker bus made by Oppie fits nicely. And what about trains? There are no trains yet for SimMars, so i need some Terran trains for my railroads. This is a German freight train made by Oppie. BR 143 is the only passenger train than can be used on SimMars. Thanks to those train, my primary railroads are not empty anymore. Back to my loting creations. This is a small airspaceport, very useful for small remote colonies. It's not functional, but I'll try to make it. Need a rescue team? Something goes really bad in the colony? The military and rescue base is always ready for action. Something else that SimMars Beta 3 really needs is a set of trail paths. Paths are very common on Earth, so why not on Mars? I also made some extra Martian plazas, to bring some extra variation in the recreation facilities. Those paths can be also very useful to built mini roads. Evillions8 suggest me to check the B.S.C. path textures. As you can see, the result is great! And something interesting. How about plopable buildings, that can be placed anywhere you want? I also played with grownable buildings. Those white homes are for high wealth Cybs SimMartians. Making their lots a bit smaller, those houses can construct everywhere. A 6x6 grownable "village" of medium wealth Bals SimMartians. This is a low wealth Gen apartment building, the tallest building in SimMars! By making it's lot smaller, i can have this giant much more often, saving me from serious crises. In December i released a mod that relots the Martian buildings, making them available for Earth. Martian buildings on Earth. Time for the opposite, Terran buildings on Mars. This is a low wealth Gen apartment building, originally made for SimMars. This is a high tech factory that makes robots. The pyramidal shape is cool, but it's cyan windows are out of place. I guess we can imagine that the cyan color is by the windows themselves and not by the reflexion of the Terran atmosphere. Same with this high wealth Cyb apartment building. We can imagine that the windows has the cyan color to symbolize Earth, the origin of SimMartian. Notice those 2 black, arcology-like buildings? Those are high wealth Cyb apartment buildings too. And a mini teaser, a new colony for the next update. It will takes me some extra time, but this colony will be very interesting. Please stay tuned

Schulmanator: Thank you for the interest . The colonies are unaffected from the virus, so they'll be back soon Update 15: The Show Must Go On! "My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies, Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die, I can fly, my friends!" Queen Some days ago, a virus stroke my computer. It forced me to reboot my computer, so I'm reinstalling Simcity. However my colonies and custom lots are safe and unaffected, so Eden will keep strong. By the way, I have a nice collection of pictures from all my colonies, taken just before of the virus attack. Hope that you like them Hope-1 Logic-2 Faith-3 Love-4 Fun-5 Life-6 (Under construction)

What type of Goverment does your city have?
Terring replied to hobostank's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
A mix between Cybernated Government and Anarchism! -
VIRUS ATTACK! A virus stroked my computer. I saved my colonies, but there is a possibility to lose those colonies because of the virus. Eden will be back!
