The Light Mask property only applies for props. If the model is a building, you don't get that property. Also - in order to get light to show up on a lot, the lot has to consume over 15 units of power. If you set Power Consumed to 0, the lights will not work. Of course, this means that you will also have to power it in-game.

@GaryReggae - Create some textures of leaves with alpha channels. Then, apply them to plane primitives and use the Jitter commands in the Simtropolis Tools to give the leaf-planes a random distribution around some kind of stem/trunk. @timo - Lofts are very tricky. I would suggest going into the help system and learning how to use Loft Deformations. They let you tweak the rotation, scaling, orientation, and twist of your shape as it travels along its path. That's probably the only way to solve your problem.

I'm doing 90-degree turns, 3-way intersections, and 4-way intersections between road and avenue puzzle pieces. Intersections involving one-way puzzle pieces are too mind-boggling tor me.

afuegosky - Are you gonna go to Lolla at Grant Park? I can't afford tickets, so I'll probably just go to Millennium Park and listen outside.

The Moose Factory (virtual Bar & Grill)
ardecila replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in General Off-Topic
Must have missed this quasi-thread. So hey, everybody. 1st priority - I'll bribe everyone to shout ard! when I come in, ala Norm on Cheers. Always wanted that. 2nd priority - *goes to autobar and orders a limeade* 3rd priorty - *walks up to jukebox and starts Layla by Derek and the Dominoes* Yup. Layla pretty much sums up how I feel now. Of course, so do a lot of other songs. I just like that one. -
Hey - maybe this'll give me an excuse to dig out my old Penn Station model!

Poole, Diamond and Associates BAT Showcase
ardecila replied to geoff_diamond's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Okay - since ppl keep asking, I'll say this again: PDA is not dead. Both jtportland and geoff_diamond have RLS (real-life syndrome). Basically, I'm the steward of PDA. Geoff should be back once his school ends and summer begins. JT is studying hard, I imagine, since he's pre-med. As for making this an NDEX project: absolutely not. I've said it before: my NDEX projects are only automata-related. My BATs, especially the Chicago ones, are PDA projects. Besides, PDA is more architecture-centered, whereas NDEX is more coolness-centered. -

Actually, there's enough clearance. Remember, there's three lanes on each side of a highway. In fact that's the actual height, give or take about 3 feet. Don't worry, I did a draft a while back. It works fine. -

Well, seeing as how no one is posting here.. I my as well post that project. This is the United States Post Office in Chicago, IL. It is currently unused (abandoned), but at the time it was built, it was the world's largest post office. The lot will be 6x14, and it will allow a ground highway through it. The lot is also significant because it is the first split building for johnnie2's Split Building Initiative. Larger view of Post Office -
Automata and BATs by Mikeseith
ardecila replied to mikeseith's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Actually, I'm working on that right now, GoaSkin. This is because I want the game to have a special class of trains for Intercity Service. That way, trains like the TGV and ICE don't have to replace the normal commuter trains. It'll be released as the first ever NDEX modd, with some cool-looking models for the new trains type. Then, modders can simply replace the new train model, instead of replacing the old one. *hands thread back to mikeseith* -
Actually, johnnie, only the first picture is of the Stock Exchange. The second one IS the post office I mentioned earlier. Oh, and thanks for the picture, aleking! I have the West, North, and South sides modelled already, just not the East (river) side. Once I get that done, I'll get a preview out for you guys.

Boy, this is beautiful. I can't wait to see the modd released. You must have worked on it for a long time, especially to get the tree placement that you did. I can't control the trees very much at all. One question, though - how do the flowers work? Are they new land textures, or are they actually flora models? Wait a minute - you used opacity-mapped planes, didn't you? It turned out excellent, either way. Just hope it doesn't slow the game too much. (I'll still use it, even if it does!)

The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1
ardecila replied to sparkythepenguin's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I've already signed on as the TE guru. And yes, it does count as a split building. As for pictures, see here: http://www.cmr.cc/gallery.htm It's an Oregon construction company that helped to build Pioneer Place. I just found it off Google. -
EDIT: Never mind. I posted the solution to the wrong problem. I solved this problem myself only through the use of a modding technique. Basically, the textures that the BAT creates for the buildings each have their own unique numbers, called IIDs. The BAT generated a texture that happened to have the same IID as a texture used for avenues. Since the BAT-generated one is a plugin, and the avenue one is in the game's files, the avenue one takes precedence.

You probably won't be able to find a scale map. What I did for Chicago was to get a map of the Loop, count the blocks from the lake to the river, and base my measurements off that. I set 6x6 as the standard block size, and I counted 13 blocks, to that's 13 x 6, +14 for the streets. I then used Photoshop to size the entire region according to that. It took a lot of work (4 days' worth of free time) but it was worth it: starting from the Chicago map on the STEX, I scaled it up 137%. So scaling up an existing map is probably the best way to go.

buttal - there's a rebuttal, so why not a buttal? azurific - incredibly blue razons - the lines of one Gmax object that show when you place another object on top of it.

Actually, it's a river.... Not really many canals until you get south of the city, and then we have both the I&M canal and the Sanitary/Ship canal...

don miguel's BATs are good for R$$, although they are more American-Urban than any other style.

hkabat-forum-threads Massively Gigantic Japanese BAT Gallery
ardecila replied to Odainsaker's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
I just released the lot Japanese Breakwaters on the STEX - it's a rather useful BAT. I have the entire naval collection from that guy - I call him NACM for reasons that I detail in the STEX description. I'd email it to you, but it's much too large. If/when I actually hear from Mr. NACM, I'll ask him if I can upload any more of his BATs.
