  1. Using the Disc version of SC4 Deluxe on OS X Lion and Mountain Lion, for those running the App Store version, see Use the Universal Binary Update to allow SC4 to run on your Intel Mac, this file is easily found through a simple Google Search, but will only work for those who bought the SimCity4 Deluxe DVD, if you have separate discs for SC4 and Rush Hour, you should buy the Steam version. These steps are required when running an Intel Core i5 or i7, optional on a C2D or i3 Install XCode through the App Store (Free) Run XCode For Lion and Mountain Lion Open Preferences Under Xcode>Preferences Click on Downloads Locate and Install Instruments Run Instruments (Should be in HD/Developer/Applications) In Mavericks Open the Xcode Menu Select "Open Developer Tools", and Select "Instruments" Open Preferences Under Instruments>Preferences Disable Hardware Multi-Threading (Optional) Reduce your processors to 2 For i7 users, you will likely need to disable Turbo Boost (otherwise the game will freeze after 20-30 minutes) Download "Turbo-Boost-Switcher" from https://github.com/rugarciap/Turbo-Boost-Switcher Follow the Instructions, and Disable Turbo Boost, before launching SC4. Open SC4 Deluxe Enjoy For those wishing to utilize the NAM, you can download a new Mac installer on the LEX Download Note: You may continue to experience occasional freezing. This may be caused by an application contained within the Sim City 4 package. You will simply need to locate the "Sim City 4 Rush Hour" application in the Sim City 4 folder under Applications (or wherever you placed it when you installed). Right Click (Control-Click if you only have one button), and select "Open Package Contents". Open the Contents folder, then Resources, and remove "APlayer". This will disable music and sound effects, but they likely weren't functioning anyway. It is getting harder and harder to find the Universal Binary update for Sim City 4: Deluxe, Gamer's Hell has a copy for you http://www.gamershell.com/download_18916.shtml
  2. Running the DVD version of SC4 an Intel Mac

Considering the original specs were for a 700Mhz machine, you should be fine. I would recommend getting it from Steam though, as it seems to be better suited for players from this forum, as it is easy to manipulate, as though it was the disc version, and it is currently $9.99, and if it won't run in OSX, you can always fall back to Bootcamp or Wineskin/Crossover. Although A Nonny Moose (among others) does not recommend procuring a copy through Steam (in part due to the 'retrofitted' DRM, where the original game did not sport any such mechanism, as well as what seems to be an altered file structure) - and especially not Origin (I concur) - if you're patient you can nab it for $4.99 on sale. My copy has worked perfectly fine, and indeed you can download the game on both PC and Mac. I hadn't tried working the previous SimCity 4 DVD Universal Binary beta but then I hadn't heard good things about it, and either way I had lost my motivation in playing. The main reason for my posting however is to share the joy of NAM 32.1, exclusively patched for the benefit of us Mac addicts, with compliments of memo, Tarkus and the NAM Team. The only "retrofitted" DRM is replacing the CD requirement with Steam needing to be running. Just replacing the calls. It is certainly a lot better than the App Store version which is crippled compared to the Steam Versions.
  3. Running SC4 on a Mac

The one in the Containers folder is the one inside the App itself, I just gave the full path, so you can bypass the "Open Container" option, and only relevant for App Store purchases.
  4. Green color in config.bmp editing, SC4/Aspyr

It really depends on what program you use. If you use Gifconverter or Photoshop it will work, most other don't use the correct file format, including Preview.
  5. Running SC4 on a Mac

I don't have a hard limit, but I have over 750 files, without an issue.
  6. Transferring from PC to Mac

So long as you are playing the Disc or Steam Version, you can simply drop your entire SimCity folder from "My Documents" to ~/Documents.
  7. Game always freezes 20-30 mins into playing

Is this the Disc version, App Store Version, or Steam Version? If it is the Disc version check out my guide - The other two versions should work fine, so you may want to see if the issue occurs without any plug-ins.

  9. Aspyr's SimCity Release(s)

As many of you may know, I've been running the Disk version of SC4 Deluxe on my Macs for years. I have even been able to get it to work on Mavericks. I avoided the App Store release, as I was not happy with the Sandboxing requirements forced on Aspyr by Apple. The Steam version was released, and I avoided it, mainly due to costs. Today, there was a sale on SC4 on Steam, $9.99 instead of $19.99. So I jumped at it. It was well worth it. The Steam version actually pulls my regions and plugins from my Documents folder, meaning everything works correctly. All cities and regions are loading correctly, and I while the Grid still shows on some textures, but that was expected. The buildings that lit before, still lit, and nothing is crashing to the desktop. I haven't tried moving the NAM plugins that I removed, backed into the plugins folder, but so far, this was well worth the $10.28, to me.
  10. Aspyr's SimCity Release(s)

NAM works just fine, save for few pieces (look at the stickied post for what doesn't work). However, because it is in an EXE file, and not available separately, you MUST either use File Juicer or some form of Windows Environment to extract the components. Wine/Wineskin are free ways to do this. Same goes for files from STEX/LEX, if they are EXE's you need a Windows environment to extract or mess with Filejuicer, but with few exceptions, usually indicated on the download page itself, things from the STEX and LEX should work. If they don't, they simply won't load, or the game will Crash to the Desktop, then you remove the plugin, and move on with your life.
  11. Did you go into the App, open the package contents, and drop everything in to the Plugins Folder? The Steam Version appears to be just like the original disc version, utilizing the Plugins Folder in your Documents folder, making all of this much easier.
  12. Lot Editor w/ Aspyr re-release

It isn't really them being lazy, they were never given the rights to port the Lot Editor, nor did EA ever give them permission to patch the game, aside from what they could during the Rush Hour/Deluxe release.
  13. Lot Editor w/ Aspyr re-release

I don't believe it is possible, because AFAIK, the Lot Editor relies on a legitimate version of SC4 to be installed. So if you wanted to run it in Wine you would need the PC version installed in the same Wine 'bucket' as the Lot Editor. If you bought the Steam release, you could theoretically install it there (with Steam), but I'm unsure if that would work.
  14. Aspyr's SimCity Release(s)

I have some night lighting. I know some BATs won't light up, but that is manly due to the missing code in the Mac version.
  15. I would simply state that I have no issues running NAM32 on the Steam Version, save for the documented issue with "NetworkAddonMod_Bridges_Plugin_Controller.dat". I can only build custom bridges when the game is paused and that plugin is installed, but other than that, I have not encountered any issues with this release.

Those without extensions are folders. Check out my stickied post about running on an Intel Machine for further information. 17. Aspyr's SimCity Release(s)

I have no issues with NAM, but don't use some of the components. The only file you can't use on a Mac while the game is not paused is NetworkAddonMod_Bridges_Plugin_Controller.dat. Once you realize that it takes some work to use the custom bridges, it is easy to handle. I'd be happy to share my NAM folder's contents if that helps you get going with NAM32. Unfortunately, .dll files won't work on a Mac because .dll is specifically a Windows Libraries.
  18. You only need this information for the App Store version. The Steam Version uses the Plugins, Regions, and other data in your Documents folder.
  19. DAMN Manager for mac

If you mean, the plug-in, it should work without issue.

If you check out the post at the top of this forum, you will find all the information you need to run your existing version on your upgraded Mac. -
  21. Plugins never work on Mac?

I'm not sure, but I would assume it would be within the Applications folder within the home folder. Otherwise under Home/Library/Application Support/Steam/StemApps/Common/Sim City 4 Deluxe I'm not certain, since I haven't downloaded it yet, but that is where most Steam Apps end up.
  22. OLD version of NAM for OLD Mac ?

Not really Rosetta, it is actually running Native code. It may work better.
  23. The problem is the huge numbers of files and the volume of data. It would be difficult to manage or download. There used to be a Mac version of the NAM released as a ZIP file, but it was very difficult to get installed the first time, because of various dependencies, and it took a lot of trial and error for me to get it working myself.
  24. Running the DVD version of SC4 an Intel Mac

You do not need Windows. You simply need to place the plugins you get from the STEX or LEX into the folder. Some are in ZIP form, so you simply need to unzip them, and utilize the read me files included to figure out how to the place the files. Usually once you unzip, your plugins will be in a folder. Simply move the entire folder to Plugins (do not remove the plugins from the folder they were placed) and you are ready to go. Some plugins are too large to be easily distributed as zip files. So they are compressed into EXE files. You can sometimes utilize applications like File Juicer to extract them, but for plugins like NAM, you are better running through the installer, which means running it in a Windows or fake Windows environment. This can be accomplished with Crossover, Wine, Wineskin, Bootcamp, Parallels, Virtual Box, or VMWare Fusion. This simply extracts the files you want, in the correct order in the folders. You can then move this folder to the Plugins folder. The only plugins you can't use are those that are Libraries, which end in .dll. Also, all transportation will cross between tiles, road, rail, highway, RHW, subway, monorail, ferry (maybe)... the only exception is streets, which are only available within the city.

Again, you have to go into your User's Library Folder (using the Go Menu's "Go To Folder), and located it on the path I gave previously. Here is my screenshot. I do not have a Library folder. As I stated, you must open your home folder, not just using the triangle, then use the Go menu at the top, select "Go To Folder" then enter Library. It has been hidden by default since Lion.
