Hi there! First I'd like to admire your present city-work. I'm quite new to the Simcity game, and my city at present (my first "proper" successful city) isn't quite nearly as pretty-looking. Anyway. Whilst I am quite new to this, I feel that I may be able to help. One thing you want is to avoid your city following a standard grid format, yes? Well, my present city (Wundograd) has a quite irregular approach to roads. There are lots of diagonal streets and roads, particularly in residential areas. How do I do this? You may ask. Well, I find that being stingy helps. Seriously, though, it does! What I'm talking about is in regards to coverage of schools and hospitals. When I place a hospital or an educational facility, I don't tend to muck about with the coverage slider (that thingy that determines how big an area the facility covers). I usually leave it at the default. Also, when I place a hospital, school, high school, etc. I usually tend to place them in close proximity, and quite a distance out from any existing residential areas. Then (and here's the clever bit), I draw out my residential areas depending on the coverage of the facilities. I'll start with some large blocks of residential in the center. Then, as that grows, I place further residential in the edges, with the roads following the edges of the coverage areas for the facilities. I'm finding it quite a bit hard to explain, so here's some helpful pictures: This one sort-of demonstrates what I'm talking about. The coverage area (of the high-school, in this case) forces the edges of the zone into a circular shape. Then, the inside roads follow diagonal paths into the centre of the circle. Here's another one; the overlapping catchment areas lead to an interestingly-shaped residential zone. Essentially, you want to be stingy; try squeezing as much use out of each school/high-school/hospital by building zones in the catchment area, before building more. Of course, this may not be for you; as I said before, my city isn't as nice-looking as yours, and this may be why. But you never know, it might help!

Well, most if not all of the cities I've been building since I got this game (about 3 days ago) have failed (or at least, gone some way towards failure). I think it's because I keep developing too fast, and spending all the funds.

Hello there! I'm new to Simcity 4, and I thought i'd register here, then say hello, then sink into an eternal obscurity. Hey, it works!

Hi! I'd like to use my first post to thank the Original poster, as well as download sources, for the SC4UPDATE file. Being quite new to this Simcity 4 addons lark, and finding that: 1. I needed this file for mods to do their own shiny thing at night, 2, Said file was only obtainable through Maxis' site, after you'd registered your code, and 3. Said codes did not work, despite entering in 500 different ways, Finding it available here makes my Simcity 4-based life much easier. So thank you, very much!
