Can you leave city names blank?
lukeallyn replied to lukeallyn's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks for the responses. I mainly wanted to share region views without city names interfering. Question=Answered. -
I see in many region views on here you don't see the name of the city. I know this could just be Photoshop magic, but. When starting a new city in your region is there a way to leave it blank, so nothing shows up in the region view? I've searched for "naming" "naming blank" "city naming" via this search engine and Google and I couldn't get an answer outside of the cheat code to change your city name. Thanks in advance for any help.

Really good work. I live in Parkland too but it looks nothing like this. Look forward to more updates. -
River, Creeks, Stream shores.

@A Noony Moose Thanks a lot for the advice. I've spent a few hours just organizing my MODS and double checking to insure they're working properly. This solved a few bugs I didn't even notice were happening such as having to many park mods which cancelled each other out. @Stormlover I have the "Columbus Terrain" mod. I haven't gone into the read me file yet as I've been busy fixing my plugin folder. The information to change the snow level and such should be in there? I'm noticing that even with every mod possible, you still need to be patient and be open to spending a hour or so on your detail to get it just right. Having mods outside of plugins is a great idea as I can try out different mods without being overwelmed by having 20 different rock mods or them not being compatible together. Great advice and I hope to have a few pictures posted of my work somewhere soon. -
The read me says to have both CPT8and9 in my plugin folder just in separate folders? It also states I need one of the following downloads but I can't find them on here or the LEX @ devotion? Here is the read me direction. Any suggestions on where I can find one of the additional tree models? Installation Extract the following files to "\My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins". It is wise to create a new folder for each download to avoid confusion. CPT_No8_TreeModelsPartOne.dat (tree models part 1) CPT_No9_TreeModelsPartTwo.dat (tree models part 2) You also need to install one of the follwing files (only one, not more!): CPT_No7_TreeController_DefaultMaxis_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (default Maxis trees) CPT_No7_TreeController_Generic_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (mixture of all included trees) CPT_No7_TreeController_Generic_Andreas.dat (selection of various conifers) CPT_No7_TreeController_DouglasFir_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Douglas Firs) CPT_No7_TreeController_LodgepolePine_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Lodgepole Pines)CPT_No7_TreeController_Burnt_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (burnt Lodgepole Pines) CPT_No7_TreeController_Aspen_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Aspen) CPT_No7_TreeController_Ponderosa_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Ponderosa Pines) CPT_No7_TreeController_SubalpineFir_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Subalpine Firs) CPT_No7_TreeController_ShorePine_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Shore Pines) CPT_No7_TreeController_Redwood_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Redwood trees)CPT_No7_TreeController_Larch_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Western Larches) CPT_No7_TreeController_PinyonJuniper_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Pinyon Pines)CPT_No7_TreeController_Cottonwood_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Cottonwood)CPT_No7_TreeController_WesternRedcedar_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Western Redcedars)CPT_No7_TreeController_Elm_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Elm trees) CPT_No7_TreeController_Juniper_RequiresNo8andNo9.dat (Junipers)

So this doesn't create the same thing as in God Mode where you have the green circle and are able to cover the entire map if need be it just allows me to hold down on the mouse and "brush" around an area? I'm just not seeing that option when using this tool, but it's still effective. Just want to insure I installed the file correctly.

River, Creeks, Stream shores.
lukeallyn replied to lukeallyn's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Exactly what I was looking for in both answers. Much appreciated. -
Okay, little nervous posting new threads since this is an awesome and active community but I searched through 10 pages of posts and didn't see anything relating to this. I'm trying to create what many do with very detailed River shores or Lake shores. I've got beaches down . I've downloaded rock mods, sand mods, log mods, tree mods and I still can't seem to get it to work correctly and I might not have the correct mods. I deleted them all and am starting from scratch. So, any suggestions on mods to use to create realistic looking river beds and shores? I know it takes time, but even after an hour they looked "terrible" (Charles Barkley voice). Also, might sneak this in cause I'm such a $%&^! but when you're done downloading the mods and unzipped them, can you delete the folder with the zipper? Thanks for everything! Great game, better community.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Yet, no words can describe the beauty here. I can't imagine the time it took you to create such detail.

I wish I could do this. I've been working on a creek in my city for 2 weeks and still can't get it to look realistic like this. Amazing job! I wanna book a trip with Expedia to go here.

What mass transportation system is the best (Rail, Subway or Monorail)?
lukeallyn posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Would anyone have any suggestions as to what mass transportation system is the best (Rail, Subway or Monorail)? I'm just finishing up with some detail editing of one of my cities downtown centers and need to bring in people from the suburbs to work downtown. Subway is somewhat bland for me as I'm wanting to create a stunning transit system that's fully intergrated. I'll download the RTMT system when I get home as I think that will help add some details to my transit system. -
@Evillions Thanks for the suggestions. It took me a few minutes to understand where I was suppose to find these files since I'm a rookie but once found I realize how they will help me develop cityscape style cities. I look forward to posting my work on here and I'll be hitting the STX for more and more add-ons. One final question to anyone. Why block the maxis buildings?

Can you help me with layout questions?
lukeallyn replied to jkgreyling's topic in New Members Information
@jkgreyling I've just come back to SC4 and am amazed at all the news stuff that's out there. It's possible to get what you want, in fact you might want to use the NYC map if you really want to be detailed. You just need to connect a few cities to your "main" city or the one you want with the skyscrappers first. If you surround your main city with a highly educated population looking for high res commercial office space (meaning you don't zone this in the other cities) you can accomplish what your looking for. Start developing a few cities around the main city with agriculture and low res with high education and proper infrustructure. Than grow that up to high end industry and med res and get the demand really high for high res com. Than go to your main city, build up the infrastructure and plop down high res and high commercial. Always take care of their needs as the higher ends are fussy. No garbage or pollution, lots of mass transit and quality police, fire and education. -
@Evillions Any suggestions with the custom content? I've only downloaded buildings so far. The shear size of STX can be daunting for a $%&^!. Maybe if I had just a couple MODS, BATS OR LOTS that you use, that would help me understand what I should be looking for and what I should be avoiding.
