It has become so apparent to me through years of education adn observation that we as Americans try far too hard to make everything black and white..although we are all completely aware that's not how life is. The Democrat and Republican parties, the liberal and conservative mindsets, are all just a gross generalization for the reality of our political system. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and as such, everyone has their own opinions on issues. The extremists of any political party are simply people who have not been educated enough to formulate opinions for themselves, so they choose a belief system from a hat...usually the ten gallon hat or the fedora their father wears...and that is why political discussions are really a load of useless re-hashed trash the majority of the time. Arlen Specter hasn't changed anything he believes in. He is an intelligent person with his own opinions...like most politicians he didn't choose a party just to stick to that party..he chose it to further his own career.

Let's Discuss Capital Cities -- and recreate the PFB
Raxter replied to Meg's topic in Simtropolis Related
The Susquehanna River flows through Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna empties into the Chesapeake Bay right near Interstate 95, which runs through 4 state capitals(Augusta, Boston, Providence, and Richmond) -
Earliest SimCity Series Memory...
Raxter replied to enemyone's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The starter city in SC3K, Suburbia. After I finally figured out the game mechanics(by reading the super dooper manual! Man, I miss that thing), I started Twyconville. It was the first city I ever got high-rises in...first city I did alot of things...including burning down the whole industrial zone accidentally. I wish data preservation was better in older computers. That city was erased by the frequent issues of Windows 98...I sometimes think I'd prefer to play SC3K...but then I remember what the traffic and transit tools were like. -
There's a lot of excellent advice on this page, but a very good rule of thumb is very pertinent to the world of making money: You should spend just as much money on things that generate income as things that generate expenses. My personal strategy is that for every new municipal building you add, there should be some kinda of new zone or upgrade to an old zone so that there's more taxpayers around to support your new building.

Is it possible to have multiple downtowns?
Raxter replied to De Ja Vu's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
New York city is an obvious example. The financial district on the tip is separated from Midtown Manhattan by a lot of "low-rise" blocks.(quotes because they're still taller than alot of america's mid-sized skylines) -
Pink Floyd's Richard Wright passes away
Raxter replied to your_adress_here's topic in Current Events
May he rest in peace. Though I must say this puts a sad end to all the repeated rumors of a true Pink Floyd reunion. -
Very in-depth planning indeed. The asian low-density residential area brings back memories of SC3000, back before street connections when you could have a solid block of, like, 64 small asian houses crammed together. In fact, I might even go back and play 3000 for a bit.

The Current State of the American Education System.

1. Amen. I've told many people plenty of times, it's not a matter of how long I sleep, it's WHEN I sleep. The fact of the matter is, being in a temperate region, waking up before it's even light out consistently kills me.I don't get any more sleep in the summer than I do in the school year. In school, I usually sleep from 11pm to 7 am(8 hours). In the summer I usually sleep from 1am to 9am(8 hours). In the summer I am energized almost every day, in school I'm in a slump until about 3rd period. 2. Completely 100% correct. Homework might help certain students reinforce what they learned but most of the time it accomplishes nothing. It has been common practice around here to take homework assignments, divide them into a dozen parts, have 1 person do each part and copy from the rest. It's a time saver and it doesn't really have an impact on our grades. 3. Having to study for multiple things in the same day is tedious and difficult....but not unreasonable...kind of a mute point for me, as I don't generally have alot of difficulty with tests and quizzes(projects and papers are more my trouble) 4. Meh, through the years I've had my share of bad teachers, but I'd say the majority of mine have been good...so I can't relate to your complaint. I would add in 5: State Tests The PSSA is the biggest waste of time in education. The purpose of the test is to compare schools to know which ones receive more funding(a pretty decent idea, to understand the needs to the different regions). HOWEVER, the local districts have taken this for individual gain. These tests have made it so that teachers are not only encouraged but mandated to teach PSSA and only PSSA material during a great portion of the school year. We are trained to provide our district with funding while losing a portion or our education on the time spent preparing for it. -

Paranoid and My Name is Jonas are ridiculously easy. Raining Blood = the most painful thing ever..more so than Through the Fire and Flames I've beaten the game on hard, but expert is just a tad on the crazy side. I've gotten through the first 6 sets without much trouble, but the last 2 are nearly impossible for me.

I checked the top few pages and noticed no thread for posting high populations. Of course, it's all fine and dandy to say you have a city with 1 million people, but some people fancy playing certain size cities. Post your top populations by square size. Region: 743,201 Small: 137,261 Medium: 327,445 Large: 50,300 (I don't much like playing large squares) *prepares to be owned by everyone else*

I find it interesting the only continent free of armed conflict currently is the center of the majority of military conflicts over the course of history. Is it possible that Europe is a sign of what's to come for the rest of the world? I would like to throw some(much needed) optimism into this thread and say that there's a possibility people have the capacity to get sick of fighting.

I never played City Life, but rather I read up on it and previewed it. From what I'm seeing this game is a very nice improvement over City Life, which is more than can be said about SCS. If I only have 50 bucks this holiday season, SCS doesn't stand a chance.

Based on what we've seen(screenshots, press releases, and the gameplay video), I'd rate it as such: Gameplay 8 Graphics 7 Sound ?? Value 8 Tilt 6 7.25 being the game score without sound. Would actually have to play the game to know what the sound is like. So unless the sound is absolutely atrocious I'd say this game could get a solid 7.

Ideas for onlineplay in future simcity versions
Raxter replied to aking88's topic in City-Building Games
I would say the only real obstacle is time. The Sim City series is a string of simulation games, which due to their nature, sometimes need to be paused, slowed, or sped up. For example, in order to be fair there is a world at llama speed for everyone. Well, at llama speed, city A has a lot more developing to do, so it benefits from slow simulation, whereas simultaneously, city B is done zoning and building and now needs to grow. It becomes a boring chore for the player behind City B to wait for this instead of just hitting the cheetah button. On the flip side, on a Cheetah speed world, City A is already developed. It's growing fast and nicely, while City B is struggling to get on its feet, losing money because its taxes aren't able to keep up with new expenses. I'm not sure if I'm missing something from your post, but this is what I can gather from what I read. -
sim city new approach and suggestion list
Raxter replied to gstommylee's topic in City-Building Games
For a long time I've desired playability with the city. Obviously the point of the game is to build cities to your heart's desire and run them as you would in reality. However, I think that there is a time when a city reaches that "perfection point" where people stop playing it due to lack of things to do. Now, we saw an introduction to what I'd like in Rush Hour. The U-Drive it missions and free drive are great, but I think Societies could really develop this, for the obvious reason that it's a new game, but remember it's a 3D game, which makes stuff like this even better. U-Drive it should be continued with new additions(perhaps pedestrian travel and flight?). Mini-games are a cool idea too. -
There is a very simple method of protest that no one ever seems to consider: Don't buy it. If you're unhappy with what they're doing to the game, don't buy it. They'll notice the dip in sales. This may come as a shock, but EA is a corporation, in business to make MONEY. If a decision they make causes them to make less money than previously, they will generally change their strategy. If SCS's sales charts aren't up to par with Sim City 4's, they'll most likely give the project for Sim City 6 back to the guys they know can make money, Maxis. Capitalism is a beautiful thing.

How do you feel about the SCS announcement?
Raxter replied to Dirktator's topic in City-Building Games
Originally posted by: Cheese89 I thing that really bothers me is that this is considered Simcity 5. As far as I'm concerned, this game does not represent the next logical step in the SimCity series, and thus should not be considered the sequel to Sc4. I'm actually even fine with them using the prefix "SimCity", so long as it isn't considered the next main game in the series. Think of it this way... Bungie made Halo 1, 2, and 3, which were First Person Shooters. Ensemble Studios is making Halo Wars, which is an RTS. Both carry the Halo name, and indeed both are about the same conflict in the same universe, but it is made very clear that Halo Wars is not the next game in the main Halo series. This is how Societies should have been approached.quote> Societies for the SimCity series should be the Windwaker of the Zelda Series. -

Dublin, the capital and largest city of Ireland, sits at the mouth of the River Liffey along Ireland's eastern coast. Dublin has a population of 505,739 according to the 2006 census. It has also been found to be the best capital city in Europe to live in by a survey in 2003. This map has slight inaccuracies due to unforseeable problems. When I set out to do Dublin by request, the NASA land and water data was not entirely accurate or detailed. I free-handed some of the greyscale in order to make it seem smoother and had to free-hand complete the Liffey River in several locations. Other than that though, it is a very developable map with some nice water features. - I am also including this important information. ALL OF MY MAPS are created while using Mayspacy's Terrain and Climate Mod. You MUST have this in your plugins folder while rendering. Use the MiddleuropeanClimateModwithImageImportMod60.dat file from that mod and be sure you do not have any other terrain mods installed while rendering. Afterwards it is ok to remove this mod and put your preferred terrain related mods back into plugins. Rendering is to be done in the game from the region screen using the Shift+Ctrl+Alt+R method. -Cori edit: Clarified a couple of things after fixing the grayscale image.
