Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

But what I think it needs is some urban-styled freeway barriers in the middle and maybe a railing on each side. It makes for a perfect urban-highway (UHW). . quote> Stuff like concrete dividers will be added @ a later time. The only thing right now done for it is the basic texture you see above. Once I create transitions from the RHW-4/RHW-6S to a RHW-6SC, then maybe we can get closer to adding the dividers and other stuff we would need to make this type of highway safe for travel. If released in this state, the speed limit would have to be around 25MPH tops. Plus, I will need to make MIS ramps for this as well. So, it all just takes time. However this project happens to be low on the priority list.- 3,919 Replies

Originally posted by: Filasimo Originally posted by: Tarkus Hi everyone- Effective immediately, I will be leaving Simtropolis, and all developmental and support functions on all of my projects will cease at this site. They will be moved to SC4 Devotion (https://www.sc4devotion.com). This is a logistic move, to better synchronize with the transit modding community at large. I must offer my sincere thanks to everyone here at ST who has supported my work. All of my uploads to the Simtropolis Exchange (STEX) remain and are still available at this time, including the most recent version (v13b) of the RHW (compatible with the May/June 2007 NAM). My apologies for any inconvenience this relocation may cause. I look forward to continuing with improving the transit aspects of this great game we all love, and hope you will continue to follow my work at its new home. Thank you for your continued support. Best Regards, Tarkusquote> Really Hal, can you not respect his wishes? and did you even go through the trouble of asking Tarkus if it is ok to post updates on his behalf with using his pictures? If you asked Tarkus to provide this thread with updates and use his pictures and he had agreed , I would not see this a problem. Please if you want to post updates here, ask Tarkus for permission. Thank you.quote> I second what Filasimo says.- 3,919 Replies

I'll back up what Tarkus, jplumbley, and Filasimo say. This especially insults me because I'm part of the RHW team and have been working on official textures for the RHW system. And to have my textures even in the same picture as that annoys the heck out of me. Especially when I worked hard on the overhaul of the complete system for Tarkus. -- One angry graphics guy.- 3,919 Replies

To make something like that, there would need to be a special Elevated Higwahy piece made for 30m to do that.

rickmastfan67 replied to nerdly_dood's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
nerdly_dood, did you ever think of looking in the "Network Addon Mod > Plugins" folder? All of the turning lane pieces are in there. -
What are you even requesting? At least give us a description of what you want with any pictures you provide.

I know your model isn't finished, but the new network looks a little too cartoonish compared to the current RHWquote> Well, I'm going to be overhauling every RHW piece for this project. I only at that time had the RHW Curves beta in a dat file to override the original ones inside of the RHW dat file. ===== Anyways, here's some more shots for ya to see. First, a zoomed out picture of the new curves. They aren't still fully finished because I still need to finish the rumble strips, but everything else for them are completed enough to show off this new preview. You guys also get to see the new RHW-4 base piece. Second, here's a more zoomed in shot of the pieces. Third, you get to see the brand new RR Crossing as well as the Emergency U-Turn lanes. Fourth and final, you now get to see the Street junctions with the RHW. Just finished them overnight. Enjoy everybody!!- 3,919 Replies

rickmastfan67 replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Well guys, here's my announcement. I'm going to be working with Tarkus and jplumbley on overhauling the main highway pieces for the RHW to version 2.02. The upgrades include a brand spanking new roadbed and the highway reflectors on each piece to match North America highway standards. Right now, I only have a preliminary shot of the brand new RHW-4 Curves to show you all. The pieces for the curves have been updated since this picture below, but I don't have an updated shot to show you all since I'm not at home right now. So, enjoy this early shot, and hopefully, I'll be able to show off more to you all once I finish off another piece or two. Also, once I've finished off the RHW-4 pieces, I'll be working on a proper set of RHW-2 pieces that should be released with the next RHW per Tarkus's approval. Enjoy all.- 3,919 Replies

Originally posted by: MaybeMemories06 Just a suggestion, and maybe you've already thought of it...with the transitions from RHW6 and 8 down to 4 and 6 could we maybe have the right lanes compact in and leave the center lanes? That is how it is in Utah and Las Vegas and it takes care of the 2 tile gap. Of course the ones you have are plenty useful too, but i think either having them squeeze in rather than out, or have the outer lanes go into exits/come from entrances, would be better. It would make it so the left lanes don't have to merge, too.quote> Well, if might be easier to do for the RHW-6/8 than the RHW-6C/8C because the non-compressed version gives me more room to work with. Right now, the RHW-6C/8C are both 3 tiles wide, but the RHW-6/8 are both 4 tiles wide (that for both directions side by side). So, having the right lane(s) leave for an exit on the non-compressed version would be 500% times easier. However, I have some plans on trying to work out an exit/entrance ramp that work with the "C" versions that takes a lane(s) away, but that's in it's preliminary stage (only in my head at this time). Right now, my only objective at this time is to create the lane transitions that expand the highway out from the default 2 lanes. Once I have the lane transitions completed (RHW-4>RHW-6; RHW-4>RHW-8; RHW-6>RHW-8; RHW-4>RHW-8C(update); RHW-6C>RHW-8C), then and only then will I start on lane additions/removals via exits. I'm not going to give any time-frame on them, but I'm hoping that I can at least have all of the lane transitions pieces finished graphics wise and passed over to blahdy or Tarkus for putting them into SC4 in time for the release of the next RHW that should have the MIS in it.- 3,919 Replies

Originally posted by: writingliberty Can (or will) we get the highway pieces without the electronic overhead signs? The ones in most areas I'm familiar with, if they have overhead signage at all, only have the green-and-white signs for upcoming exits or towns, and the very occasional (like one every 20 miles) changeable-message lightboard.quote> That will be up to blahdy. I've given him full control of what he wants to put up on the piece since I'm a texture guy only and don't know enough on how to get the piece correctly into 3dsMax and then to SC4. So, all I did was the road texturing. Which, I might add, will be getting updated sometime this week with a proper stain on the highway were the lanes start/end. The RHW-4>RHW-8C piece already has gotten it's updated stain since I first posted the picture of it here over the weekend. So, if you go back one page (Page #73), you should see it updated with a stain.- 3,919 Replies

Originally posted by: JCarter rickmastfan67: Great! Very Nice! One question though, is it possible to have the roadway curve along with the left shoulder rather that ending upbruptly? I dont know how to mod or BAT so I was just wondering. Other than that, its GREAT!!!quote> It doesn't always happen. I based the two puzzle pieces you see in this thread on real-life stretches of road that I've personally traveled on. For the RHW-4 to RHW-8C, I based that off of two different segments on I-77 in NC and SC. Based them both sides on SB I-77's design and added a little bit of a personal flare to them. Plus on the merge from 4 to 2 lanes, I made that shorter than what it looks like in real life because I don't think anybody would want a 3x30 puzzle piece that they couldn't add any off-ramps to if SC4 would have allowed it. LOL. Anyways, here's the Sat images of those areas: http://maps.google.com/?om=1&ie=UTF8&t=k&ll=35.381291,-80.849022&spn=0.003998,0.007231&z=17 > I-77 NC http://maps.google.com/?om=1&ie=UTF8&t=k&ll=34.90632,-80.985804&spn=0.004021,0.007231&z=17 > I-77 SC For the RHW-4 to RHW-6C, I made it similar to the other piece. But with the RHW-6C to RHW-8C piece, I do plan on making the left shoulder follow the yellow line. Originally posted by: haljackey rickmastfan67: Great work on those transitions! However, the RHW-8C to RHW-4 transition seems a little too... how do you say... tacky. I would recommend a RHW-8C to RHW-6C transition, and then, use the RHW-6C to RHW-4 transition.quote> See above. Originally posted by: simzebu also, would it be possible to make a ramp go into the transition? In other words, the added lane comes from the exit rather than out of nowhere?quote> That would be more possible with the normal RHW-6 and RHW-8 than the "C" versions. But I will not rule them out getting added.- 3,919 Replies

Coming soon with the RHW-6C & RHW-8C. These will be the puzzle piece starters to give you access to more lanes from the default RHW-4. RHW-4 > RHW-6C Starter Piece: RHW-4 > RHW-8C Starter Piece: Also, blahdy has a few shots of the RHW-4 > RHW-8C in 3dsMax, so, he'll be along shortly to post them I hope.- 3,919 Replies
