New SimCity 2013 details: system requirements, multiplayer, engine

I have a simple intel quad core... gonna be good enough? i can run Star Trek Online with no issue

I smell hacks in the future. Why? How? It's happened with other recent games, where consumers are angry at online requirements. Those who bought the game and know a bit about hacking often create some sort of program that mimics the online marketplace, and allows you to connect to your own server, which would be for one person; yourself. I don't believe this is a bad thing, but it'd be nicer if EA just went away with the always-online requirement.

I wonder is there a single player mode? Thats' how I usually like to play. Looks like an intresting game.

Single player is still there, it's just sad that you have to be connected to the internet for it to start. It's pretty much a closed off region that you have to yourself, no other people can join.

As I've said before, I will most likely be like The Sims 3 type of validation with an asynchronous play like in Spore.

Always connected for single player is a crime!

Not everyone has a good connection. Mine is a crap! I imagining the connection going off half of time in game, exactly what happens today with FIFA12.

Cool, my rig fits the bill more than enough.

But I just hope for the love of god that the we won't have to use a web browser to start the game. EA just keeps screwing everything up that Maxis wants to do anyway. And it's BS that we have to have a connection to the Internet at all times. SC4 has always been the perfect game for me to play during Internet downtime when it happens. But I can't do it with SC5? That's a load right there. And a BAD decision on the part of Maxis's EA overlords.

Jesus Christ Maxis... I am so sorry you have such a terrible company controlling your every move. EA, stop making DLC for little details like extra tile sets and double decker buses. Seriously, EA will be the death of Maxis and its awesome SimCity franchise. I am going to stick with Sim City 4 until some reviews come around, I have a feeling I am gearing myself for disappointment and expecting too much.

Just to correct a misconception that I keep seeing, the devs confimed you don't constantly need an internet connection in single player, just one for it to start. People can make their own minds up about that, but I keep seeing people saying things like you need 'always on' connection, or a 'constant' internet connection, all you need is a few seconds of connection for it to validate when you start it.

And this pantomime morality play that keeps being echoed, where poor little Maxis is enslaved to great big evil EA is rather tiresome too. Nobody can really know what's behind the decisions being made. It's worth remembering that EA has owned Maxis for well over a decade, during which they created SC3K and SC4.

Back when EA wasn't the most hated company in the United States... Prime example of this occurring in this upcoming SimCity game is how much DLC they already have planned out that is completely unnecessary and worthless, just like the Sims 3 Stuff Packs. Instead of including foreign tilesets in their new launch they decide "Oh, lets make the customer pay more for 2 KB of extra content, yeah! Genius!"
