Huge New City Park Established in Tarkio

Tarkio Park has been created in the eastern part of New Washington. In exchange for establishing Tarkio Park, the southern half of the Rush Bottoms Conservation Area has been zoned for a new industrial park.

City Council Passes Public Bus Legislation

City Council has voted to provide assistance to all neighborhoods and towns within the city that wish to connect to the citywide public bus service. Many towns are quick to take advantage of this. As the population of New Washington is growing so quickly, the city's infrastructure is struggling to keep up. Public buses will undoubtedly provide much needed relief to the road congestion clogging much of the city during rush hour.

Town of "Fayette" Established

The town of "Fayette" has been incorporated along Highway MO-148 between the towns of Pickering & Hopkins.

2021 Update

((OOC: Note that I'm greatly simplifying how this game works. Instead of having formal politician and business characters, everything will be entirely informal. You want to be mayor? Want to own the most influential newspaper in the city? Want to be a mafia boss? Just let me know.))

Washington Redskins to relocate to New Washington

In so many ways, the Washington Redskins are forever entwined with the creation of New Washington. The team was decimated along with Washington DC, and it's owner Daniel Snyder has been a key investor in New Washington. Today Mr. Snyder announced that the NFL team would officially be moving to the new capital city.

The public is asked for their suggestions on a couple of questions:

  1. In which town/neighborhood should the stadium be constructed? (MAPS)
  2. Should the team be renamed?

Please reply to this post with your opinion on the issues.

Jefferson Memorial Completed

Following a citywide debate and vote, the Jefferson Memorial is remaining dedicated to Thomas Jefferson. Also being added on the monument is the inscription:

Protests shut down Jefferson Memorial

A group of protesters have gathered at the Jefferson Memorial to prevent the completion of its construction. They are demanding that the Jefferson Memorial be renamed because of Thomas Jefferson's support of slavery. This has sparked a debate in the city on whether the memorial in that location should be dedicated to someone else. Please let your voice be heard in the poll attached to this post.

Mayor Kevin Williams said at the announcement, "We hope that the airport's close proximity to the White House and Capitol will bring quick growth to what will likely become New Washington's downtown area."

Washington, DC destroyed in terrorist attack

On September 23, 2017, a terrorist detonated a suitcase nuclear bomb in Washington, DC. Aside from the massive casualties, the city will be uninhabitable for generations.

New capital city location settled

After months of political negotiations, the location of the new U.S. capital city has been officially announced by President Trump (who was in Florida at the time of the DC attack). There were many offers from various cities and states throughout the country, but the sparsely populated area along the Missouri River between St. Joseph, Missouri and Lincoln, Nebraska was the winner. This region was chosen for a number of reasons:

  • Geographically central to the country
  • Land coming from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas
  • A large area of fertile, sturdy land (over 5,000 square miles) with few inhabitants (less than 100,000 people)

New Washington City Council structure announced

The new Federal District will be governed by a 10 person city council with each member coming from a specific ward. The mayor is elected from at-large from all wards and serves as a voting Chairman of the City Council. All elected officials serve 2 year terms without term limits. The first official election is scheduled for 2020. In the meantime, the Governors of the respective states are asked to each appoint 1 person to a Planning Council that will meet until after the 2020 election.
